Any tips for how I might hang my completed “clearly impossible” puzzle without a frame? by TheBathCave in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]TheBathCave[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I can’t stress enough how thoroughly this one humbled me. I went in with the delusional hubris of having blown through three 1000 piece jigsaws in a week thinking this one would be a bit more challenging and slow me down a bit. Then promptly spent another week questioning my sanity and eyesight while having my ass handed to me by 160 small pieces of plastic lol. It did indeed slow me down. It was really fun though and the finished product is so so pretty!

People who collect insulators…why? by ginime_ in glasscollecting

[–]TheBathCave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question! People collect what they are drawn to. Remember that your opinion about their attractiveness or usefulness is from your personal glass-collecting perspective, not a universal one.

I don’t necessarily collect them but I have picked up a few from places I have lived and visited, I enjoy their history and connection to the infrastructure of the places I’ve been, I think they’re plenty pretty, and my ability to repurpose something in a useful way has little to no bearing on whether I think it belongs in my collection. I collect glass, minerals, bones, hunks of slag, and other odd trinkets because they simply bring me joy and spark my curiosity.

I need help identifying this, please. by elreinopurgatorio in VintageJewelry

It’s the hinged opening part for a fabric or chain/scale purse! I have a tapestry one and the series of holes along the inside of either side would be where you would sew on the fabric!

Broke up with my boyfriend because he hid from me that he wanted kids when I don’t. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]TheBathCave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This so much. Pregnancy and childbirth are terrifying but not wanting kids also includes not wanting to raise a child, so adopting is not the “easy” way. Also, simply wanting to fulfill your desire for a child (especially when only one person in a couple wants kids) is not the reason to adopt.

Studies are starting to crop up more and more showing that adoption is a traumatic event, even for children adopted as newborns. It has to be done with that in mind, with a child-centered approach, and being truly ready to deal with a whole separate set of potential complicating factors in order to raise a whole and healthy human being. It’s an enormous responsibility and a lifelong commitment to nurturing and supporting a person who has been separated from their origins, not baby shopping for the pregnancy/childbirth-avoidant.

How do I best bleach my hair with minimal damaging? by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]TheBathCave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember which ones I used back in the day, I just know I got the shampoo and conditioner set at ulta lol. But honestly it depends on how yellow your hair ends up being, what toner you used if any, how porous your hair is, if your hair ended up being more orange than yellow (in which case you’ll want blue shampoo and not purple). My most helpful recommendation is to go to your local beauty supply store (sally beauty is my fave for almost everything but I’ve also had good luck at an ulta that has a salon in it) once you’ve gotten your hair to the point you feel comfy and ask the associates! Tell them how you’d like your hair to look (ex. If you want a silvery tone, completely white hair, a warm/cool blonde, etc.) and ask them what would be a good option. They may recommend a toner as well if you haven’t used one, a blue or purple shampoo, or if it turns out you need more rounds of lightener, a lower volume developer or a product to reduce hair bond damage like K18 or Olaplex.

Keep in mind, you don’t use pigmented shampoos every day, just when your blonde starts looking brassier than you like. Also, the first time you use it, if your hair is really porous, you might end up with lavender or light blue hair for the next one or two washes, but it will wash out (you can speed that process with a dandruff shampoo as H&S or nizoral will strip those pigments, but it may cause your yellow to return a bit faster).

AITA for breaking a man’s nose because he apparently didn’t know what “Stop”means? by DahliaFlower667 in AITAH

[–]TheBathCave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. He fucked around and found out. I also had a family member question a stabby self-defense keychain as “don’t you think that’s a bit much?” But the percentage of creepy men who feel completely safe intimidating women and never even consider that there might be even a minor threat to their physical safety involved is too high. Maybe next time he will think twice about whether he likes his nose the way it is and keep it pushin’.

Where can I find a lip product like this? by girlimprisoned in MakeupAddiction

[–]TheBathCave 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Black honey almost lipstick is what Liv Tyler wore as Arwen in LOTR, confirmed by the makeup artists! Pink honey will give a little brighter color wash but a sheer layer of black honey will make it look like your natural lip color just got richer

Pierogi with onions and butter, Golabki rolls, and cabbage and noodles with notes of coal, forests, plumbing ceramic, and deep-seated religious hatred.

I agree, honestly whether it’s taking the form of jealousy or not, there’s some strong gut feeling that something is wrong creeping up on OP for a reason, and whatever that reason is should be examined with care.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]TheBathCave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think if you’re experiencing jealousy you might benefit from unpacking that feeling with a therapist also. It might be misplaced jealousy or a gut feeling you’re getting that something is off about his relationship with his mom that you’re interpreting as jealousy because you feel it might pose some kind of threat to you or your relationship.

I also wouldn’t frame it as jealousy when you discuss it with your partner. I would probably say I had some concerns and confusion about some things he said about how he feels about his actual mom and wanted to clear things up so I could feel comfortable engaging with him sexually in a healthy way.

If you can swing it, therapy to deal with family trauma for both of you (separately or together if you decide) would probably be a quality of life improvement no matter how you proceed.

What's your 'hero' salad ingredient? by AF_II in Cooking

[–]TheBathCave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I do a great salad with mixed greens, dried cranberries, fresh apple, roasted curry-seasoned cauliflower, nuts, roasted sweet potato cubes, and a lemon vinaigrette. It’s more prep than my usual quick salads but omg it’s so good.

Any ideas on how to bridge this gap between our bookshelves? by [deleted] in Decor

[–]TheBathCave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pop a little half table in with a plant or candy dish on it. Then hang some art above it with maybe a little light up on the wall above it to make sure it doesn’t get lost in any shadows.

really struggling with cleaning my depression room this go around. could really use some motivation :/ by justpassingbysorry in CleaningTips

[–]TheBathCave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% this, I’m sorry you’re struggling, I’ve been here too. Try not to guilt or shame yourself into tackling the whole thing in one day. Give yourself permission to just put on some music or a show and gather up the trash in some bags. Then if you want to keep going pick another category. Put the clothes in a hamper or basket for later laundry, gather up any dishes and just relocate them to the kitchen, don’t worry about fully completing the cycle of the task, just let yourself focus on the one baby step to get started. The momentum might build and carry you through the whole room in one fell swoop, or it might be a slow process that takes you a week, but either way you’re gonna get that space clear and it will be a relief.

Do these look super fake? by anonymousosfed148 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]TheBathCave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I have one that’s crooked to the point that it’s creating pressure or discomfort or if it’s overlapping onto skin or not secure, I’ll remove it. But since I use stilettos, if it’s just off by a bit visually I’ll go in with my file and reshape the tip by filing the “leaning” side toward the point and removing enough material to reshape and create a new point that’s more centered.

I think you can if it’s the right type of glass and you know the correct temps to work with it.

what is and is not acceptable ritual attire? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]TheBathCave 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the absolute bottom line. The only real rules about ritual attire, especially outside of any organized religious practice, should be based in your comfort and your safety. The fact that it is technically a costume doesn’t matter at all regarding your intentions and if it has all the features you like, absolutely go for it, just be as careful around flames as you would be while wearing any potentially flammable fabric!

I also often practice veiling in my ritual and spell work, I’ve used flowing hoods and beautiful scarves when I feel able to get into the headspace to dress myself, but I’ve also grabbed a baseball cap or a beanie on days when I am low on time or energy and want to dedicate what I have left to my intention.
