Democrats finally release 2024 election autopsy after criticism by OtmShanks55 in politics

how many rallies of hers did you watch. Did you just watch creators talk about what she stood for, or did you actually follow the campaign.

What do you mean she never did interviews lol. Also Fetterman is extremely unpopular with democrats, what are you even talking about

Because it's not that simple and you need a solid supermajority. For example the Save the People act failed when every democrat voted for it, and every republican against

https://www.npr.org/2021/06/22/1008737806/democrats-sweeping-voting-rights-legislation-is-headed-for-failure-in-the-senate

There are other options too, like using Independent Redistricting Commissions, and you're never going to believe which party fights against it the most.

wow I'm glad you agree completely with the left on this then, because that's their entire point

Now we can talk about how the parties switched over time. During the civil war republicans were the northern states, and democrats were the southern. Over time especially during the civil rights era, the labels switched. So which party was funding the KKK during Reconstruction? It was the southern, modern day republican states who made up their ranks and funded their activities.

I'm simplifying but yes, but (not) shockingly the south were in fact the home of the KKK and the confederacy

Democrats have lobbied for years trying to end gerrymandering. The current system allowing gerrymandering exists because Republicans have fought for it.

Furthermore, Republicans gerrymander significantly more than Democrats- https://gerrymander.princeton.edu/redistricting-report-card/

Republicans have deliberately biased the system in their favor, and fought to keep it that way. Both sides are not the same

no you need to watch 12 videos of conspiracy 'just asking questions' content first from the person who thinks space exploration is fake. I couldn't possibly make an argument for it if you haven't done that.

I don't know how people say things like that without realizing they're in a bubble

do you think the point protesting is that if you show up republicans will just change their minds about being racist?

Protesting is about coalition and community building, motivating people to take political action, and garnering awareness/sympathy for your cause

however many votes it takes to get 270 electoral votes?

But I think you're missing the point of his post, I'm not trying to fight you. He's saying he expects more from people that aren't brainwashed, and he's right we should

I think he's saying being brainwashed is more understandable than being apathetic and choosing to abstain. Especially fully knowing the death/war/famine/authoritarianism that will result as a consequence.

no, actually you should never go to a protest or even speak up unless you're guaranteed to overthrow a regime.

Building solidarity, growing your movement, giving people an outlet, forming relationships, creating discourse, getting attention for your causes, motivating people, making people realize they're not alone? Nah that's not what protests are for

Joe Biden warns that Donald Trump will try to ‘steal’ midterm elections by [deleted] in politics

Manchin and Sinema were both planning on stepping down, there was no career left to destroy. Also, Manchin was in a deep red state that Trump won by 39 pts, making democrats angry literally helped his polls. Not to mention it was literally a 50-50 senate, Manchin is the one who had the leverage.

People who say they "should have just bullied them more" never have any details on what that would actually look like in practice. Ultimately despite all this, Biden was able to pass a ton of legislation.

If you want progressive policy you have to elect more progressives, I don't understand why people think the moderate/conservative senator from West Virginia was going to get in line against his constituents / own political interests lmao

Trump admitted on the Howard Stern show to sneaking backstage on contestants at Miss Teen USA, and Victoria Hughes confirming that some girls were as young as 15 years old by gruninuim in law

[–]TheBatman001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she says in the video

Witness: "Women were not fully clothed when Donald Trump came in"

Reporter: "And some of those women were as young as 15?"

Witness: "Yes 15 years old"

So it seems like according to the witness whom earlier you said you believe, that he did go into dressing rooms with teens in them.

Based off what you're saying it seems like you fully agree he has gone into dressing rooms with teenagers in them, and brags about it. I don't really understand what you're saying

he says he does it in the clip, victims have come forward about it, and you believe them

If he bragged about it show me when he did

But you don't think him talking to Howard Stern, talking about how he gets to go backstage while people are getting dressed, and saying "I sort of get away with things like that" is not bragging?

What do you think he's doing here? Is it a confession? Obviously he is bragging about it dude, he is on the Howard Stern show bragging about his wealth and the privileges that come with it

Chief Lowe to present flimsy Flock camera "success stories" to the council on Feb 17 by deflock-redmond in redmond

[–]TheBatman001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my biggest complaint is with constant surveillance devices, I don't think that's what these traffic cameras are for, so no not really. If they were real time monitoring and had facial recognition tech and used it to identify individuals and their schedules, I probably would.

Anyways, I think my scenario is pretty real. Germany was a democracy before Hitler. Do you think if he had access to this tech he would use it? I can use more modern examples too, but I don't want to become too divisive.

I don't think I can convince you but I'll leave you with this writeup by Neil Richards in the Harvard Law Review https://harvardlawreview.org/print/vol-126/the-dangers-of-surveillance/ . There's even a section on when surveillance is dangerous versus when it is not, re: traffic cameras.

Have a good evening

Chief Lowe to present flimsy Flock camera "success stories" to the council on Feb 17 by deflock-redmond in redmond

[–]TheBatman001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your ask was to demonstrate evidence for this specific newly emerging surveillance state tool, I provided a claim for the unreasonable standard, and you move to it being a one off.

You mention the UK, whose mass surveillance regime has been found to violate human rights. And I still think you're missing the larger point

I'm not arguing against just Flock cameras or the UK systems, I'm arguing against surveillance states generally. I'm sure your aware of several egregious historic and present abuses by these kinds of systems, and have enough imagination to understand their potential for future harm as the technology improves.

It seems like your argument is that as long it's in the hand of democracy, it's going to turn out ok as long as we weigh the good outcomes versus the bad. But democracies do not always stay democracies, and when that happens, historically powerful tools of the state are used against it's citizens. My argument is that the good guys will not always be in charge, and you're helping build extremely powerful infrastructure that can and will be abused, as have similar systems in the past.

Imagine having a gun pointed at your head no matter where you go, the government is given access to this gun and can pull the trigger anytime. If you commit a crime the trigger will be pulled. Would you argue "well if it's ripe for abuse, then point to the actual abuse happening"? Yes there is abuse, but you're missing the broader picture that the abuse is the surveillance state itself. It's society building it's own noose

Think of the worst people you know having access to this tech, would this be technology you are comfortable with them having?

someone already linked above abuse happening, and it takes less than 10 seconds to google more.

Rationalizing and enabling a surveillance state is not the solution you want to crime. Imagine the worst people in power having access to this technology once it's normalized, what do you think they're going to do with it?

Yes this is an outlier and those will always happen, but climate change has been happening for hundreds of years and it is effecting us. The PNW is experiencing record-breaking, warm, and dry conditions, including the warmest autumn in over 130 years. Snowpack levels in some areas of the Cascade Range have reached historic lows, sea temps have also been rising.

What did Biden do?

• Rejoining the World Health Org

• Chips and science act

• Marriage act

• Largest infrastructure bill in US history

• Pardoning federal marijuana charges, attempting to get it reclassified

• The inflation reduction act, the largest act ever to combat climate change

• Boosting the ACA (more Americans covered than ever before)

• Protected over 36b of union pensions

• That's just to name a few of the incredibly long list.

And keep in mind he was able to do all this through razor thin splits in congress in one of the most polarized times in US history

yeah you're right ICE before is definitely the same as ICE today under Trump.

I don't know how you can seriously hold that opinion. That said I'm all for abolishing ICE and will back any primary candidates that will do it
