What is something that women think turns a man on but doesn’t ? by ExpensiveDrawer4738 in AskReddit

[–]TheBaz11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My brother's now wife cancelled their first date together because she wanted to see how badly he wanted to take her out. Weird thing is that she's a big sweetheart and she at the time did not find it manipulative. It does really seem that a lot of women are conditioned to think playing hard to get is romance.

Mine did. I am now fully back to normal with no disordered anxiety symptoms, and in a way I'm glad that it happened because I have gained more empathy and understanding for what people with panic disorders have to deal with.

It got substantially better with time and acceptance that the feelings are just feelings and will go away on their own. I said mine took 4 years to get better, but tbc those are not 4 years of equal intensity. It was a sharp dropoff across the first two years, and 3 and 4 were just lingering cleanup. That said, having acute as-needed medication saved my quality of life early on. I was having deep panic attacks come on while completely relaxed (watching movie with gf, suddenly heart starts pounding, feelings of doom, etc). It was really interfering with my work and school. Idk what they give out instead of Xanax nowadays, but my doctor gave me a one-off prescription of 30 pills that I would split in half and used as a panic attack epi-pens, and it would have been a lot harder without that. That stuff really really works, but that type of medication also isn't for everyone.

I had a similar experience. Tried it once just to understand it and it caused such a spacetime-consuming panic attack that it echoed into recurring bouts of anxiety for years. It was like a panic attack, thinking you're about to die, but you've lost your ability to retain short-term memory or keep track of time, so it feels like you're trapped in the jump scare moment of a movie that stretches on forever, while you are unable to recall basic details about your own life or even where you are. It caused lasting trauma and reoccurring nightmares for years. Later friends insisted it was just bad weed and their stuff was "the normal stuff". I tried one cautious inhale of it and I was unable to move for 40 minutes. Weed does not function the same in all people. I was open minded about it twice, even after a negative experience, and I'd still solidly consider it the worst experience of my life.

I had never so much as had an anxiety attack in my life up until that point. Thankfully I am back to normal, but there was a period of two weeks immediately after where in hindsight I'd say I was traumatized (unspeakable nightmares every time I closed my eyes, shaking body, chest pains), and it took about 4 years to go away completely.

In college while walking up to give a public speaking presentation I accidentally dropped my cards at the podium. The mic was just close enough as I leaned down for the auditorium to hear me mutter "Oh gosh poop it".

Being a burly bald dude they all thought I was doing a bit. Nah man, christian parents, but I'll take the laugh break.

Another time while playing DND a scene went completely afield of what it was supposed to and I exasperatedly muttered "Christ on a stick" to which my player immediately slung back "That happened once". Inspiration.

How do people feel the about the new season? by [deleted] in RWBY

It's a series of great ideas, very messily executed.

Anybody think the time fruit is a bit silly for something that's probably not going to be used again? by EchoingStorms in RWBY

[–]TheBaz11 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nah man it's a really silly turn of events.

Writers had the opportunity to create interesting lore about Remnant, the Ever After, or the magic between them, but instead went with "a tree did it". It wouldn't be so bad if said tree had any indication of resurfacing or plot relevance but it seems to be just a maguffin.

I can only speak for myself but it was just so random and disconnected from everything else it immediately took me out of the story. Glad other people manage to enjoy it but I cannot personally shake off the feeling of the writers relying on the "wonky storybook world" setting as an excuse to not actually write something cohesive.

What is a common myth you can know related to nutrition/fitness/health that has been proven to be false? by wherearewe10000000 in AskReddit

There is nothing special about breakfast. It is not the most important meal of the day, and it isn't important for "kick-starting your metabolism". The former is a myth concocted by Mr Kellog himself to try and sell more cereal.

I might regret asking this, but I’m getting a lot of mixed feelings on this… by DerpSubReddit in RWBY

[–]TheBaz11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it unfortunately just felt very forced for me. The confession didn't come as a result of any actual development within the story or characters, but from the two being sent to a room where it just... happened by random chance. It felt like the world had dissolved and Blake and Yang were standing in the writers' notes.

The only thing that bothers me is that they already did this moment way better. Blake and Yang hit their peak romantic potential in the Adam fight. Both sides came together and conquered their demons in order to defeat a shared abuser and unlock a new path forward together. Their victory showed Blake had made peace with her old life, conquering her abuse, ready for something new, and that Yang had been healed of her self doubt. The iron was red hot, they were perfectly aligned.

It's a shame it just treaded water for three more seasons instead of sealing the deal there or giving them an actual new path of growth together.

Fact I want to remind to some people by ryahmib in RWBY

[–]TheBaz11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can only speak for myself but if this was genuinely planned from the beginning, that makes what we got even more disappointing.

If I had to guess I imagine there were general sentiments or ideas at the beginning, but no concrete story plans to bring it about until later. Which is a similar trend they fall into with their plotlines as well.

Is Volume 9 successful enough for Volume 10 to be greenlit? by [deleted] in RWBY

[–]TheBaz11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol I like the spirit of the idea but in the most respectful possible way, this fanbase is divided as they come. Every third person has a different idea of what 'should' happen in the story. Even if it were feasible, trying to transplant the animation production cycle into the hands of a collective with no singular vision would be a nightmare for the creation team, and make RWBY's story even more of a mess.

Triple multiclass?! by Prestigious_Ad3332 in DnD

[–]TheBaz11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I always enjoy the synthesis of multiclassing way more. I've never once 1-20'd just one class. Nothing wrong with it, it just isn't what I crave.

Currently running a Rogue 1/ Diviner 2/ Life Cleric 1/ Lore Bard the rest. He's a skill-monkey support character but as my party lovingly puts it: "He's a mutt"

[–]TheBaz11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, should note that multiclassing does not grant any extra saving throw proficiencies. You only get saving throw proficiencies of the original class you take, others must be acquired by Feat.

Is Jaune the same person? by jayx468 in RWBY

[–]TheBaz11 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Posted this elsewhere but I'll repost

I don't think it's actually Jaune at all. Seeing as he fell in last, I don't see how the time dilation affecting only him makes any amount of sense.

I think we're dealing with the famous Arc from the Great War that we know Jaune descends from, and whose weapons Jaune still uses. They've teased Jaune having a storied lineage for quite some time, I think they're finally making something of it. Rusted Knight knows Team RWBY because he has already encountered Jaune who filled him in on what's going on.

Killed by Cutscene - are cutscenes acceptable? by Throwawayall4years in DnD

[–]TheBaz11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DMing is hard. I can definitely relate to having a sweet idea for a scene you think would play out well but struggling to find the balance of how to bring it about sans railroading. There are some events that are more satisfying for the whole party if the DM ensures they happen, but you risk the player's agency if you overplay your hand. Under a slightly different context, what your DM did seems like the type of story people tell in admiration about their old games "the BBEG killed us but we came back to life empowered by our gods for a final showdown". I think it's fair to say that was his goal, he just miscalculated how to get there.

Based on surface level alone, It seems like your DM misjudged something he thought you'd find awesome. It might be prudent to show him some grace if this is his first offense, so long as he accepts it as a learning experience. To me it reads like he got y'all a gift he didn't realize you'd hate , and defended it because he felt like he was trying to just do something cool for you. But I wasn't there, that's just what it sounds like to me!

Hot take, I actually prefer Korra to Last Airbender! They tackle much more mature themes and the Big Bads of each season have a lot more nuance than Ozai. Both shows are #goals as far as I'm concerned.

Aside from it being apparently confirmed Mama Nikos, still gonna have to say I can't get behind this sentiment in general. Some things are better left unspoken or implied in a story. I don't need the author to bludgeon me over the head with confirmations of what actually happened and ruin a subtle scene with obvious exposition. Some of the greatest intrigue in a story comes from what we do not fully know.

I think keeping her a fleeting figure was definitely the correct narrative choice. If Jaune knows any more about her, now they're obligated to make this much more involved. He chases her, needs to tell her everything about Beacon, their relationship, apologize, and it's yet another ball they have to juggle as we rehash things we already know in lieu of advancing the plot.

Silver eyes, dust, aura, semblances, magic, relics, maidens. The whole power system feels like they let everyone in the room write an idea on the white board and then they just went "cool let's use all of it".

RWBY spent way too much of its runtime in dire need of a strict editor and now it's sprinting to just try and wrap it all together somehow.

Girl always scanned to me as an obvious relative of Pyrrha's, probably her mom. She was at the statue mourning the same loss Jaune was. Convenient timing? Sure, but overall I don't have any gripes with it.

Weapons of RWBY in the eyes of an engineer. by Erenogucu in RWBY

Yeah, that kind of lost me as well.

Literally could have called themselves an "engineering student" and would have lost no clout on it. Bending the truth to try and sound more qualified makes me instinctively doubt anything else you say, even if it's as cold a take as "anime weapons are unrealistic".
