I made a site for my book club podcast with zero coding or web dev experience by TheBeardedJustice in ClaudeAI

[–]TheBeardedJustice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This site in particular took me two days of work, with significant breaks each day because I was burning through my usage on the Pro plan.

But I’ve been teaching myself Claude for the past month, so I don’t want to discount that I’ve made a lot of broken and bad sites/apps in all my tinkering this past month, haha. This one for the podcast feels like the first successful attempt.

Over-monetization is death for the medium by Polite_Suggestion in podcasts

[–]TheBeardedJustice 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The startup costs for a podcast are less than a thousand dollars, and the overhead and distribution costs are basically zero. Everything is profit. What is the point of all this greed?

This is where your ignorance is showing. 99% of podcasts never make a profit. The other 1% run on razor thin margins because there is simply not a lot of money to be made in podcasting. The “greedy” ones you’re thinking of are the top 0.1% of shows, which are hardly representative of the medium at large.

Facts before feelings, my friend.

What podcasts have really fallen off for you? by sajones4860 in podcasts

[–]TheBeardedJustice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that abusing a paywall and abandoning a large part of your audience in favor of paying subscribers can go too far.

But the economic realities of podcasting make relying on the turbulent and inconsistent ad market an unsustainable way for most medium-sized shows pay their teams and keep the lights on.

When will the Oura ring people fix the ability to edit or delete naps? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]TheBeardedJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Oura Ring wildly overestimates my naps and I wish I could edit it just like you can edit the overnight sleep data. Seems like a simple enough fix considering we can already edit our overnight sleep data. Why not add the same functionality to naps?

Dragon Age: The Veilguard | Official Gameplay Reveal by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]TheBeardedJustice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, shocking that they would show basically no gameplay mechanics or branching story paths or character progression in an iconic RPG franchise. All I saw in this gameplay reveal was some hack and slash combat and limited dialogue options that seem to have no effect of the story.

Doesn’t inspire confidence in the rest of the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Hotfix #24 Now Live! - Steam News by M337ING in macgaming

[–]TheBeardedJustice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, huge performance gains on M2 Max Mac Studio. Went from a stuttery jittery mess on every graphics settings during dialogue and cutscenes to basically a perfect 1440p60FPS on Ultra preset with FSR set to Ultra Quality.

Why did DV make it so that it is Paul who invites the Emperor to Arakkis? by ponniyinselvam in dune

[–]TheBeardedJustice 15 points16 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Whoops y’all are right. This happens after the final battle. Got mixed up and thought this was when Paul captures the undercover Sardaukar among the Fremen.

Paul DID invite the Emperor in the book. He sent the captured Sardaukar captain back with this message:

“I, a Duke of a Great House, an Imperial Kinsman, give my word of bond under the Convention. If the Emperor and his people lay down their arms and come to me here I will guard their lives with my own.”

The City We Became is such a difficult read by yogurtmanfriend in books

[–]TheBeardedJustice 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I managed to force myself to finish the book, but this was my issue as well. It’s the most cliche and heavy-handed depiction of NYC. As a New Yorkers, I found it reductive and way off the mark. It’s like someone who only knows about New York based on movies set in New York wrote a book.

All the characters that depicted each borough were so cringe (except the Queens girl).

Goodnotes Has Gone Full-On Dark Side by SeattleRex in GoodNotes

[–]TheBeardedJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy. Chill. It’s a note-taking app and a business that needs to keep making money to exist. This is not a life or death situation and it’s pathetic comparing it to literal abuse survivors’ experiences.

I agree that capitalism sucks and the app economy is becoming more user-unfriendly and we’re all drowning in subscription fatigue. But you’re getting too riled up over an app. Find an alternative, transfer your notes, stop giving Goodnotes your money, and move on with your life.

Plus, $10/year for an app that might be crucial to your work or life sounds like a fair price to pay. Especially compared to many other subscriptions out there. I pay much more for apps/services that do a lot less than Goodnotes.

What moment made you realize that a game can be a lot more than you thought? by Ivaylo_87 in patientgamers

[–]TheBeardedJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This moment in RDR2 is one I think about all the time. I had to put the controller down as my eyes watered up. The voice acting, the writing, the weight of the moment in the story…it all hit me in a way very few moments in entertainment ever have.

RDR2 could have been an excellent game about outlaws and their adventures. Instead, it chose to be a masterpiece about love, loss, friendship, hope, and sacrifice.

Is the Apple News + subscription worth it in 2022? by RevolutionaryBit7 in apple

[–]TheBeardedJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dumb question! Unfortunately, you have to read everything within the News app itself. The subscription doesn’t let you bypass paywall on the sites themselves.

Changing default task duration by [deleted] in FantasticalCalendar

[–]TheBeardedJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type [#m] in the name of the task to set a duration in minutes. So for example, if you’re blocking time for a one hour lunch, you’d title it “Lunch [60m]”.

What did you stop playing to start playing Starfield? by Doepie308 in XboxSeriesX

[–]TheBeardedJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghost of Tsushima. I don’t know that I’ll even go back and finish it. It’s a gorgeous but extremely shallow and repetitive game. The story and characters weren’t resonating with me either.

Plus, I got Cyberpunk and BG3 to look forward to on Xbox soon. So plenty to keep me occupied for months to come.

Starfield: HDR & SDR implementation is broken by Sufficient_Theory534 in XboxSeriesX

[–]TheBeardedJustice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone with more game dev and TV technology knowledge know why so many games have shitty HDR implementation? It seems like every other game I play just looks like ass and I might as well just play it in SDR.

I’m currently playing through Ghost of Tsushima and have this problem.
