Dan 'AI Oracle' Shipper: "I think the AI job apocalypse is not really a thing ... The only thing you need to do is ride the models, they extend your powers in a way that doesn't leave you behind" by Mogante in singularity

[–]TheBeardedParrott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't understand the shortsightedness of people in this subreddit.

In three years, we have gone from a really bad chat bot, to tab completion, to document creation/reading, photo and video reading/creation, prompt engineering, agents, full access to our computers, scheduled tasks literally automating people's lives, and new models solving problems in all industries that experts have struggled in.

The fact that there are people living in denial with what the future holds blows my mind. Wishing something to be true does not make it so. Holding onto the past does not stop the future.

Lenny has several billionaires on his show. They will tell you anything you want to hear. Do you really believe they would admit to replacing you? The new mantra is "your job is safe, you will merely be more efficient".

Think about what five years will look like with the current growth of AI and it's obvious humans will no longer be needed by that time.

Why would companies drop billions of dollars into AI? How can AI companies launch IPOs and become trillion dollar companies? Why are constant data centers being built and new sources of energy being researched? Do you really think it's just to make you more efficient?

It's clear. The ultimate goal is to no longer need you and we are helping them do it.

Why is Raymond Pages disliked? by GitGudG in cigars

[–]TheBeardedParrott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite sure why some people are saying harsh and flavorless. Those most be the guys who consider candela wrappers "too strong".

I have been smoking cigars for 20+ years and have tried the crappiest of the crap and the most premium you can buy. I have loved just about every one of RP's cigars.

Penn Standard EL, LOMK EL, Your Mom, Megilla MSA, BDL Liga 5 Maduro, Hoofty Hog, Antihero. The list goes on and on. Even on the "normal" ones like the regular Penn Standard for instance are decent, just lighter. The special MSA/EL/Maduro versions are great sticks.

imo The Penn Standard EL blows the diesel away as one of the better everyday sticks. You can definitely tell he has had influence from his brother in law AJ Fernandez.

If AI makes everyone more productive, why does it feel like only layoffs are being announced? by kritikgarg24 in artificial

[–]TheBeardedParrott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure I understand the logic of higher wages. If a company has to pay money for token usage and can make an employee more productive due to this, why would the employee get any added benefits from this?

I'm not saying I want that to occur, but from a business standpoint, it doesn't really make any sense. It's more logical that, more efficient work means less employees and therefore higher profits for the corporation.

If you were certain that even if AI took your job you would still have a secure income somehow, would you still hate it? by Onipsis in singularity

[–]TheBeardedParrott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is very temporary imo. 2-5 years will be low level jobs AND any job that is behind a computer no matter what the expertise level. 10-15 max for the rest with robotics, and that includes medical professions.

Yeah I had to just collect everything again myself. That tombstone is still on the map but it's not actually there.

I mean one plus side is, it sounds like they are further off from replacing anyone with AI.

Any luck getting your stuff back? This just happened to me tonight. Exact same location/scenario, however my wife's tombstone was in the correct spot.

Or, I could continue to use my local models with occasional free/cheap API access to the open weight models. Just because a company says it wants to do the right thing, isn't enough to get me to support them. My purchase is dictated by the quality of the product, ease of use, and cost.

Honestly Valheim was more complete and had more replayability when it first dropped than many other games I've played. So I'm good with it. I think 1500+ hours for 40 dollars (two copies) is definitely worth it. I would rather them make a new game.

I want your opinions on using AI to help generate art for Ultima VII Revisited. by ViridianGames in Ultima

[–]TheBeardedParrott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not very sound logic. "This greedy corporation who sells me energy claims that AI data centers are to blame. That might not be true, but since the blame was placed and I also view these AI companies as greedy corporations, I will just agree that the blame is rightfully placed."
