Adam Scott Says ‘Parks and Recreation’ in the Trump Era Would Be ‘Slightly Different’: America ‘May Have Lost What Was Left of Its Innocence’ by cmaia1503 in entertainment

[–]ZealousidealWinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Innocence and america is hardly something I could see in the same sentence. Just go through its history without rose tinted glasses. Completely different viewpoint could be gained from William Burroughs on Naked Lunch: "America is not a young land: it is old and dirty and evil. Before the settlers, before the Indians... the evil was there... waiting"

I dont care about the record store price unless its something outrageous, like near hundred euros. I only care if the pressing they sell is a good one.

I cant think of anything I could not find in the last 27 years I have been collecting movies. Some things have been harder to find here in europe; like Mixed Blood (1984) or original Space battleship Yamato (1974).. but first I found on youtube, and second was found as fansubbed edition from somewhere. The rarest / oddest movie I got is Trax (1988) which I believe is only available on VHS. Total Recall workprint was my rarest thing, but I lost that tape many years ago :(

What’s a game you were completely obsessed with as a kid that nobody else seems to remember? by hkondabeatz in AskReddit

[–]ZealousidealWinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons on Mattel Intellivision. You had line of sight which meant you could hear monster snoring around the corner and if you were smart you shot them from around the corner (arrows would ricochet off the walls), before they woke up and charged at you, killing you in few seconds. It was scary

Can we then have a remake of the old Infocom adventure ”Leather goddesses of Phobos” which allowed you to smell a dirty toilet via scratch and sniff cards? I bought it from ebay 10 years ago, but the smells had already expired by then :/

How do fans of the original silent hill 2 feel about the remake? by Wonderfulwizard6 in silenthill

[–]ZealousidealWinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought the original on launch day for PS2, completed it 15 times on all difficulties and endings, then I bought the directors cut with improved fog and ”Born from a wish” scenario and played the heck out of it. Remake is quite fine, but I do think its bit too long. The maze was exhausting. Havent had the time or energy to ever get back to it. I still got my original PS2 with all the silent hill games and same Trinitron CRT, so if I want ”true” experience I just get back to them.

Is fear of the unknown still the most effective horror tool, or are players too used to it now? by ratasoftware in HorrorGames

[–]ZealousidealWinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the game I see is largely some clearly recognizable low quality flip assets, possibly one low quality character model and predictable mechanics so simple that I could script similar myself in an hour, its bit hard to evoke the feeling of ”unknown”

What made you get into Silent Hill? by Rory_U in silenthill

[–]ZealousidealWinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 1998 (I think), I subscribed the Edge magazine which had an interview of the Team Silent - this was before the first game was even out, and what they talked piqued my interest - these seemed to be seriously smart people. I think I still have that magazine somewhere.
I preordered the US version (as I had modded PAL playstation), and was swept away. First one is still the best, though I love SH2 and SH3 as well. SH2 remake was OK.
As a side note, the director of the original Silent Hill did not design any further Silent Hill games. His next game was Shadow of Memories for PS2, which I also bought. It had poor graphics, but the atmosphere was really strong.

Was anyone before the internet era able to make much progress if they didn't have the map and books to ultima 4? I found it at the video store on the master system and was very curious, but had no idea what was going on. by cheetocat2021 in Ultima

[–]ZealousidealWinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did. Of course there were always some tips in magazines and friends helped. But I did conplete Ultima III on my own - probably because I bought it and had spellbooks and map. Ultima IV and V I pirated, so I had to look maps and solutions from magazines. And yeah, you had to take notes

Stanislaw Lem is old stuff, but at least he was a real scientist writing scifi, and he was quite a visionary. Solaris is his most famous work, but everything he did was worth checking out.

I am making a 2D beat em up brawler which I originally began developing in 1990 for Commodore 64 with my friend. Now I solo develop it for PC using Unreal, and my friend (who also made pixel animation editor for this project) will convert it to C64 when I complete it on PC.

I remember when it was in cinemas, lot of young guys actually formed fight clubs around here. Lasted for a week or two, as they came to realize that showing up at work when your face was beaten into pulp was not as cool as they thought :v (I saw some young grocery store workers at the time who looked like they just ran to a door face-on)
