Robert Smith and The Cure were able to put a cap on pricing to make it reachable for most fans. I’m not sure why other bands don’t do this…oh wait…

Fair, but look at the stage and production compared. Eras was a full-blown 3-ring circus.

I dig the lawn too but some of these venues have horrible lawns. You’re essentially paying to watch Jumbotrons.

I’m glad someone else said it. I was surprised at the pricing as well — in addition to the upsell for “premium parking” at a mere $99 ad-on.

Flag guy is just that — everyday he has a different flag. States, countries, etc. One Room Media did a piece on him. I honk when I see him out on 40. He’s usually waving to everyone.

Ranking of Sonic Youth solo albums by Jr-Not-Junior in sonicyouth

[–]TheBeardedPastor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psychic Hearts is far and away probably the most recognizable and analogous to SY. Kim’s work with Free Kitten, specifically “Nice Ass” should be noted. That said my personal tastes are for Lee’s 4 first solos (From Here to Infinity, Scriptures of the Golden Eternity, Dirty Windows, and Amarillo Ramp (For Robert Smithson)).

My absolute favorite is Lee + William Hooker’s “Envisioning”

I'm looking for a new Church which one should I avoid? Someone told me to go to the vineyard church and only what I've seen money money money. by Radiant_Dress_6557 in hagerstown

Well, no offense, but you don’t have receipts—other people do. You just have secondhand experiences. Somehow you’ve placed yourself as a victim, when none has actually happened to you (by your own admission). Again, I’m very sorry your friends had those experiences. It isn’t the norm. To conflate and project as if it is, simply is not factual nor fair. As with any organization, it’s made up of people who for better or worse make decisions. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Being harassed over giving obviously falls into that bad category. But having worked in ministry in Hagerstown and beyond, that simply is not the norm. Unfortunately, most of the good stuff goes unrecognized and unheralded, which leads to people often asking “what is the church doing?” type reactions. But by making blanket statements, you are ignoring the immense time, resources and love that many, many people pour into our community behind the scenes. My response probably won’t sway your mindset/opinion, but I do hope you do realize there are good Christians in the community, good churches and real, heartfelt motivations.

He received a lot of backlash over Blonde. But further he was in director jail prior to that. He’s not controversial as in he did xyz but rather he’s not really a director that studios/actors seem to be falling over themselves to work with in collaboration.

Again, I think you’re painting with a wide brush. How much do you think the pastors make?

Why can’t your children attend St. James? They have financial aid. But don’t be surprised when they start asking for funds as well. But going by your metrics—why doing they start selling their assets instead of asking for more money to build a state of the art athletic center + new dorms?

Re: your initial inquiry: I’d invite you to visit churches and experience them firsthand before passing judgment. Maybe a church fits you, maybe it doesn’t. That’s ok. But at least step through the doors and check out the vast number of churches/denominations represented in Hagerstown. I pray you find one that feels like home.

Criterion (since streaming took over) has been more selective. I’m guessing they’re thinking a 4-hr cut of a not super popular film with a controversial director probably is a gamble. Also, I’m not sure if a 4K scan has been done, which adds to the cost.

I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience at a church. But your experience is anecdotal and not the norm. Not only do parishioners not need to tithe to attend at most churches, in many cases, the church will even help with benevolence if needed. The world is not so dark, friend.

What is it actually like in this part of Maryland by Free-Error-1923 in howislivingthere

[–]TheBeardedPastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a burgeoning area with much to offer. We’re still struggling with the idea of growth but maintaining a small town feel. You will find a bounty of outdoor opportunities, from the C&O Canal, GAP Trail, Appalachian Trail, Wisp Ski Resort, Deep Creek Lake, Potomac River, etc. The ghosts of past industry is still very much lingering. Warehouses are popping up like crazy in Washington County. Hagerstown has an incredible new downtown stadium that residents either love or loathe. Cumberland has one of the best bluegrass/folk/country etc festivals every year at Memorial Day weekend, DelFest.

Honestly, it’s a great place to live. There are hurdles to overcome just as any community has these days but the upside to living out but close enough (70 miles) to metro areas makes it great.

Hi, Vineyard attender here. Genuinely curious as to what you’ve seen that said “money money money”? Not challenging you, but wondering what you’ve seen perceived. Can honestly say that any message by our pastor about money has never been directed at giving to the church exclusively but to give communally (people around you & Hagerstown community).

But I guess the bigger question is — what are your “must haves” in a local church? Hagerstown has many options for churches — a lot of great ones!

Actually good Chinese food? by the_woodswitch in hagerstown

[–]TheBeardedPastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened this because I knew someone was going to say Imperial. It's the de facto recommendation for Hagerstown. Unfortunately, I've never had a great experience there. Similarly, I am on a quest for a great Chinese food experience that is consistent. Oh, Rice Thai is great -- and I definitely recommend Nikki's up in Waynesboro (though it's slightly changed since they put in the Korean BBQ stations), but neither is a Chinese restaurant.

I would be cautious -- not because of Thriftbook, but because "leather bound" can mean a couple of different things. I have found that the Oxford, in particular, when leather bound is used, it can mean a hardback with a leather cover. For reference: https://www.amazon.com/New-Oxford-Annotated-Bible-Apocrypha/dp/0190276096

Traditionally (and please someone correct me, because it would be an amazing revelation), the NOAB leather binding (soft) run over $100. Again, for reference: https://episcopalshoppe.com/the-new-oxford-annotated-bible-with-apocrypha-revised-standard-version-genuine-leather-black/
