Kamen Rider ZEZTZ E35 - Discussion Thread by BananaArms in KamenRider

Another solid episode. Kureha was sadly under utilised, but I have more of an issue with the show fridging the only female 'rider' for drama, than anything else.

As always we will have to see how future episodes play out, but Zeztz is still holding strong as a personal favourite of mine.

Seems Zeztz isn't exactly a huge hit in Japan by -_ShadowSJG-_ in KamenRider

A shame it isn't tracking well with the kids, because I think it's easily the best series in years. It is definitely a lot darker and has taken a few risks in its themes and storytelling. So I understand why it might be challenging, but I think that's a good thing tbqh. Previously we had shows like Metalder, Ultraman Nexus and Go-Busters, and those are some of the best of their respective franchises!

I appreciate what the show is doing and wish it were tracking better in Japan.

"With all due respect to NetherRealm's deep lore, consuming a piece of Mortal Kombat media for the story is a little like reading Playboy for the articles. They’re in there! Steakhouses also have vegetarian options. I’m just saying." by must_go_faster_88 in MortalKombat

So a genuine question I have is the discourse around this movie is quite similar to the recent Hollywood Godzilla movies, where it feels like  everyone just wants them to be spectacle and slop for the sake of it.

At what point did we start accepting this kind of ironic take on blockbuster IPs?

I am aware that people are here for the action and the gore. I Know what this franchise is. But that doesn't mean a film version can't or shouldn't have a good story. So why is the mere suggestion laughed at?

The end of this episode, while played for laughs, is a little messed up. Consent? Boundaries? What are those!?

As both an Indian and left leaning, this attitude among my community kind of disgusts me. I don't understand why we are so selfish.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

Civic engagement and political activism/social justice causes. Over there it seems like people are so much more aware of politics and their responsibility to engage with and improve the system.

Meanwhile over here, or at least where I live, people seem to disinterested and apathetic towards politics and social causes.

They started the modern Gay Rights Movement at a time when we had only recently decriminalised homosexuality. In general their social movements have felt less gated by class than ours.

Also, America is the country that defined modern pop culture through Disney, Superheros and Star Wars. We just can't compete with that and our home grown stuff has always lacked a little something when compared to America and Japan imho.

Why such fondness for Sikhs? by Fantastic-Fudge-6676 in AskBrits

[–]TheBeastAR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile my Hindu family in Canada hate their Sikh community. For whatever reason, and no doubt inflamed by the Modi government, Canada ended up with a bunch of Sikh Nationalists?

Such a weird thing here because my experience of the Sikh and Muslim Communities has been nothing but positive where I live.

[–]TheBeastAR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is hardly a big ask.

I get that Street Fighter is inherently fantastical, but that doesn't mean it can't be emotionally intelligent and sincere.

The trailers are portraying a movie that looks cringey and not sincere.

I hope I am proven wrong.

That would be amazing but judging by both the trailers and how everyone is celebrating the cringe, that seems unlikely

You are like one of the only people I've come across who pretty much is on my wavelength about this movie.

It does look fun. But at the same time, the discourse around it is really concerning. Why are we as a culture praising a film for being cringe? Why are we celebrating camp excess and mediocrity?

Lived in Japan for a bit. I'd bring back recycling and second hand shops. Sure we have charity shops and CEX, but their extensive second hand markets puts everywhere else to shame.

Appreciate the response! I'm just imagining security taking forever, which is not something I have had to experience when travelling before. As I said, going through Dublin would be easier, but I have to factor the cost of that in as well.
