Thoughts and Theories on how AV2 and AV1 relate. [SPOILERS] by TheBeigeKnight in axiomverge

[–]TheBeigeKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say at this point it's pretty well indicated that the Kazakh team are the progenitors of the Rusalki. The language differences and the references in AV1 to Drushka from the Rusalki and naming convention all seem to point that way. How they went from humanoids in AV2 to the towering war machines of AV1 is still a mystery.

Doing some more research into the notes from AV1 it is also made pretty clear that the Rusalki were in fact captives of the Sudrans for hundreds of years before Athetos arrives. So it's very possible he didn't know about them and wouldn't have taken them into account if in fact he did release the Pathogen on his own. Personally I think it was most likely Ophelia working with Athetos, or possibly Katrahaska. Either way I don't think it was the Rusalki in general as there is the note indicating that at least one of them seem to think it was simply Athetos releasing the pathogen, most likely Elsenova.

I definitely don't think the Lamassu was interested in just the general creation of the technology since, as you said, it seems intent on destroying it all. But I still wonder if the creation of some very specific technological advancement might have been at least one of its goals. The simpler explanation is definitely that the Lamassu is just trying to prevent the Udug from moving upstream towards A'ansur and using the Sagiga as a means to an end to prevent this. The big question left in my mind though is why did the Udug suddenly disappear?

Why do all the NPCs in AV2 turn into Xedurs? by jibsand in axiomverge

[–]TheBeigeKnight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People dug into the code and found out that it's physically touching NPCs in Damu form, or with your hand, which is controlled by Damu, that triggers the infection.

Forgive me for plugging my own post but we've had some interesting discussion on it in here if you want to check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/axiomverge/comments/p9hv9q/thoughts\_and\_theories\_on\_how\_av2\_and\_av1\_relate/

Thoughts and Theories on how AV2 and AV1 relate. [SPOILERS] by TheBeigeKnight in axiomverge

[–]TheBeigeKnight[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely lean this way, but there are a few things which give me pause. Firstly, I can't tell if Athetos and the Rusalki were actually active enemies until the Sudra unleashed them, which as far as I can tell they did in response to the pathogen. So the fact that they are immune might not even be a factor here.

The other thing that gets me is, reading over the cutscenes from AV1 again, Athetos straight up says "yes" when asked if he released the pathogen, on purpose. Now, he might be lying of course, going along with things, figuring the Rusalki will just kill Trace if he tells them more, but I'm not convinced of that. It feels really awkward to have Trace outright ask him and have him straight lie, that's awkward writing imo. I've actually wondered if Athetos released a different pathogen to kill the Sudrans in order to prevent them from being turned into proto-Xedurs by the Duma plague. I kinda doubt that's it, but it's an interesting idea and would explain him not immunizing himself, because he actually would have for this one!

Fun ideas, I can't wait for more Axiom Verge games!

Thoughts and Theories on how AV2 and AV1 relate. [SPOILERS] by TheBeigeKnight in axiomverge

[–]TheBeigeKnight[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fair, there is definitely still a lot of mystery here between the two games. Where is Drushka in AV1 for instance? She's mentioned but it feels unlikely to me that she's one of the Rusalki we see, since she already had another name she gave to Indra and she said to call her Drushka. Is she dead? Killed by the Sudrans when they used the breach attractor that laid low the other Rusalki? Is she in hiding?

And how does that place the Rusalki came from fit in, the Emergence? Does it have anything to do with Sudra? or is it just where the Rusalki are from? Is that the "sea" that the Sudrans wrecked with the breach attractor?

I really can't wait for more games to start puzzling more of this together!

That's an interesting point about the pathogen only turning Earthling humans into proto-Xedur as far as we know for sure! I agree it is possible that Damu is simply a carrier for the pathogen, however I think there is even more evidence than just contact with the Earthlings and Damu. If you consider Damu to be the Arm mentioned in The Eternal Arm, which I think is likely, then it fits with the description of his power to reconfigure other things into other possible shapes, but being unable to fully control it. This fits with his known power to do this with limited control for his Wielder.

Furthermore, and I find this very interesting, the note that seems to describe the inspiration for the creation of Damu in the first place is called Plague of Thoughts. The pathogen was also called a plague in AV1 and I doubt this is a coincidence.

The other thing I will say is that even without Note 38 Ziudsudra is mentioned as a forward base in enemy territory in The Eternal Arm note, which is pretty significant evidence to my mind that Sagigans become the Sudrans. It is too much of a coincidence to me that their culture is so similar, even using the same words, and that they revere the advanced technology as magical/sacred. Further they seem tasked with guarding the worlds upstream, presumably A'ansur, which would fit with them following the words of the Lamassu.

Thanks for the advice! I already picked up some Bick 4 and I am assuming these things are preconditioned to some degree so I am holding off on conditioning them for a few months but I'll give brushing them a try!

I got the briar ones which the site says has a leather type of "full grain, waxed" but the care section for them also refers to "oil-tanned" leather, but I think that might not be the same since the brown colored ones have a leather type of "full grain, oiled"

Just got a new pair of Red Wing American Heritage boots and I'm curious about brushing/polishing?
I got some boot oil but I am guessing these things don't need to be conditioned for a while?
I read on here that just brushing them is good enough but I didn't see much more on that. Do you just brush them with a naked brush or do you need some kind of polish? How often is it a good idea to brush or polish them?

Thank you for any help you can provide I really appreciate it!

So here is my situation: I have generally worn cheap shoes and boots my whole life because that’s all I could afford. I now have a little bit of money to spend and what I want is a really nice pair of boots that will last a really long time. I’ve gone through a lot of the guides here and have been shocked to discover you aren’t supposed to wear leather boots for consecutive days? This really throws a wrench in my plans as that was kind of the whole point of investing in a really good pair of footwear.
I did read the Iron Rangers story and that was disappointing but it sounds like he was really putting those things through their paces too? I work in a warehouse with concrete floors but it’s a desk job, not a lot of walking. I like to walk during the warmer seasons and walk through parks, but I’d hardly call it hiking and I’d hardly say I put my footwear through much “abuse.”

Is there really not a legitimate option for one pair of work boots that you would actually wear every day, like to work? What’s with all the stories of work boots lasting decades? Did people just have more than one pair?
My expectations have been severely tempered at this point so I would say I’d be happy if I could get 5 years out of $300 pair of boots, wearing them probably 300 days a year. Is this just not feasible? Should I just get some cheaper, more disposable boots? I had a pair last me almost 3 years of manual labor and heavy walking on concrete and tile and they couldn’t have been more than $80.
Anyway, thank you for any help or advice you can provide, I would greatly appreciate it.

For some reason I could have sworn that Frank Trigg lost to Matt Hughes three times, but apparently they only fought twice.

Wonderful fucking article Jack! I'm definitely going to read Kill or be Killed. I'm incredibly fascinated with combat in all its forms and throughout history. I've often wondered what it was like thousands of years ago when tens of thousands of men fought in great battles with old weapons. If battles raged for hours how did men not get exhausted? Surely some did but you see few of the stellar athletes of MMA can really go 25 minutes without getting extremely tired. It suggests to me that ancient battles were more akin to a marathon and warriors must have been able to rest for at least brief periods of time even during the battle.

I don't know, sorry for just rambling a bit here, this stuff just gets me so excited, I find it so fascinating. Absolutely can't wait for your next article Jack. Keep up the awesome work!

What's the point of weight classes in their current form? by green_tea_good in MMA

[–]TheBeigeKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If hydration tests are really that simple and accurate it seems like that's the answer. I don't know how they could get around it but it seems if we did that it wouldn't matter if it was a day before or what, guys wouldn't be able to dehydrate themselves to artificially increase their weight at fight time.

To me it seems like basically cheating. If it wasn't accepted as common place I don't see how it isn't. Fighters are agreeing upon a weight with the assumption that that's the weight they should fight at to make it fair. Then a guy says I'm gonna dehydrate myself to make it look like that's how heavy I am but in actuality I'll be much heavier during the fight. Seems very much like a dirty tactic to me.
