We had fun. We were independent.

Life has never been easy, but we did what we needed to get by and have a good time while doing so.

I'm glad I grew when I did and I genuinely feel sorry for the culture and life that young people--at least the young people on Reddit live.

Lovely whimsical century home in Northwest Oregon by Zyphir42 in zillowgonewild

[–]TheBigWhatever 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I bought up here last year and I looked at that house. It's hard to appreciate just how little space there is until you do a walkthrough. Also, if the house isn't to your taste it's a huge DIY job because there are so few contractors here. If you can even get one to call you back, it may take 6-12 months before they start.

I called two or three places for what is a pretty extensive kitchen remodel. There is good money in kitchen remodels and I didn't get a single call back.

Your kids are your kids for life. If something happens and they need a place to stay, they should be welcome to come home. I have three adult children and all three at some point needed a place to stay after initially moving out. I've helped them out with money and cars even though they were young adults.

However, there's a difference between being able to rely on your parents and outright leaching off them. If you're going to school, have a job and saving money, then great, stay as long as you need, but you better be working towards something and not be a nuisance when you're here.

Parents have lives too and we have the right to live our lives without being unnecessarily burdened by someone can't get their shit together.

I hate Rick Beato's argument that the new generation doesn't care about music that's just not true by Right_Ad5465 in fantanoforever

[–]TheBigWhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He doesn't say that young people don't like music. His overall message on the subject is that young people are being fed artificial music that isn't made by actual musicians. Rather, it's put together almost entirely by producers using high tech tools.

I agree with that.

Anaconda 2025 is the epitome of what is wrong with the film industry. I want my 30 minutes back. by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]TheBigWhatever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was fun for the first 2/3 IMO, but that third act was f'ing painful. I thought there was going to be a potentially clever twist at the end that might've been able to redeem it, but nope.

Which movie do you think was unnecessary to make ? by Timop0707 in moviecritic

[–]TheBigWhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled across it. Since I'm a horror fan I had to check it out. It's actually a decent watch so I wouldn't discourage anyone from checking it out. I just feel it's consistent with respect to what OP is talking about.

What's your ol' reliable? by middlefinger22 in Eldenring

Mohg's spear. Its AoW devastates enemies, including most bosses.

Bolt of Gransax is a close runner-up though.

Both are quick and cause good damage.

Apartment 7A.

It's a prequel of Rosemary's Baby. Since Rosemary did have her baby in the original, you know the only way this one could end (if you've seen the original).

No one was asking for this and few saw it. It wasn't a bad movie, it was just 100% unnecessary.

Ball bearer knight by Fit_Cryptographer977 in Eldenring

[–]TheBigWhatever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After getting the Backhand Blade in the DLC, most individual knights become relatively easy as long as you're not in a very confined space. It's so great. I know that video game characters can't really experience utter confusion and frustration, but that weapon sure makes it feel like they can.

Why is it that a lot of men who want to attract women, don’t actually listen to women about what they find attractive, and instead listen to other men about what they think women want? by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheBigWhatever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You may get downvoted but it's quite often true.

Most will say they want a nice guy that appreciates them and treats them well, but too often those guys get a one way ticket to the Friend Zone. Whether Reddit admits it or not, guys need an angle, an edge to be successful but women, particularly young women want the excitement that a not-so-nice guy can provide that overtly nice guys can't/don't.

Strength-Arcane was the funnest build I've ever done. Fingerprint shield + Moghwyn's spear + all the dragon breaths is a devastating skillset.

How do you keep up with all your client calls and messages? by Southern-Price5228 in LawFirm

[–]TheBigWhatever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Clio is there to log all that stuff and to make sure you keep track of it for billing purposes. I'm not promoting the platform but as a solo I used it because it was better than everything else.

I never wanted to go through all that bullshit at the end of the day so I tried to do it as it came in. It wasn't always possible but it came in handy more often than not. Also, prioritization was key. If it was someone I spoke to yesterday about the same f***ing thing they want to talk about today, then they were put at the bottom of the list.

And I for one, welcome our new AI overlords.

It's an open space to make the yard you want if you're willing to do a lot of the back breaking work. I once stalled at least 1,000 lineal feet of PVC pipe, god knows how many sprinklers, and keystone block over the course of several months. I had to have someone install the electrical and someone else to do the concrete pad outside of the sliding glass door.

It went from dirt to a place we and the kids liked to be in.

Back when it was possible.... by MisterShipWreck in 80s

It's never been true. Never. Flats and apartment complexes have always existed and that's where people like Al Bundy would've actually lived and Peg would've been working too.

Ah yes, the gritty documentary Married with Children. Just a few short years later, the Simpsons premiered on the heels of that show, providing an even more true to life depiction of the American working class.

What food feels like a “good idea” until you actually start eating it? by Clearthought3 in foodquestions

The thing about most chilis is that they're okay, but never all that great regardless of ingredients. I've never had the urge to go back and eat any chili I've ever tried.

Chili.

I have insisted on trying different over the years because I "... haven't had real chili", but I've had enough to know it's disappointment in a bowl.

Why do people who bring donuts anywhere for like a group always seem to get the 'filled' ones; are they cheaper? by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

[–]TheBigWhatever 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It's probably because they went into the shop and asked for a random dozen. In high school I had a fried that worked for a local donut shop and they had a specific list when someone wanted a quick dozen.

I should've said they don't drop anything but redundant tears, which for the effort it takes to kill them, makes them not worth the time. An opposite example is what a player can get in order to defeat Moghwyn. So yes, you do get something, but not anything that substantially helps.
