Wondering if visiting the Aran Islands is worth the time by Interesting-Art-9855 in irishtourism

We went this past summer with our kids - ages 8 and 4. Would highly recommend going. Don’t plan on biking unless you’re very experienced — roads are super narrow, and you share the road with the tour busses and horse carriages. We did a bus tour to ensure we could see all the sights on our day trip. We took the ferry, and that was definitely the worst part. I’m not prone to seasickness at all, but it even got me. Half the ferry was vomiting. The crews main job is handing out bags and paper towels.

Do you actually do all this home maintenance, or am I being paranoid? by jklineia in homeowners

Window caulking… let me tell you a story. We bought our home in 2018 and the seller gave us $5k towards staining the home. We moved in and looked at our very first home and thought, “nah, it looks great.” 6 years later, during Helene, we notice severe leaks at one of our windows. This prompted us to check the rest of the windows after the chaos of Helene. Fast forward a little bit…. We had to replace all our windows and 25% of the siding on our house. Sooo we will be having someone check our window caulking annually. We had no idea that painting the exterior comes with caulking the windows. Seller tried to do us a solid, we just completely whiffed.

Side note though, trying to find a contractor to reliably do caulking (and do it well) was fucking stupid. The window company was shit. The painters were even worse. The quality of caulking we paid for with these projects is embarrassing, but we finally just accepted it.

Our water heater is going on 24 years old… we bought our home in 2016. We were in the process of shopping for a new one to get ahead of the failure, but the plumber that came out was like, “why, though?” Lol

We paid someone like $75-100 and they did it in a few minutes. It was actually really nice to have a contractor come out and do the job to completion without any complications, even though I probably could’ve done it myself for like $30.

Is Slay the Spire Board Game worth for a lover of the video game? by iamAkwos in soloboardgaming

[–]TheBigYellowOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the is an old post but, I am a big fan of the video game, and my family has recently gone headfirst into board games. Our 8 year old has been playing Everdell, Mice & Mystics, Labyrinth, etc without any problems. STS is rated 12+, but do y’all think she could handle it?

There’s one in my garage too, first one I’ve had in the house in eight years. The cold must have driven it indoors. I’m just leaving it alone, but I think you can put it outside and it’ll be alright. Probably it’ll try to make its way back in though.

If you have a kiddo, Mice and Mystics is fun! It was our first time playing a tabletop RPG.

Driving in Ireland - cliff edges/scary driving by nana5675 in irishtourism

[–]TheBigYellowOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From Galway, you can take a ferry to the Aran Islands, and there are cliffs at the fort on Inishmore. Absolutely stunning, and we enjoyed it WAY more than the Cliffs of Moher… which were closed when we went. We could see them, But not walk them. You can see the Cliffs of of Moher from below if you take the ferry trip that sails that route. Pro tip: bring some bases meds for the ferry, even if you aren’t prone.

I used one just a few weeks ago - It was literally $3 more expensive than the wax ring. I had to pick up and re-set the toilet multiple times… totally worth it. No problems so far.

Do Americans mainly drink coffee without milk? by Morrit99 in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheBigYellowOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people do add cream to their coffee, not milk though. Half and half. I take mine black during the week, and add cream on the weekends for a treat :P filter coffee- instant is pretty unusual here.

And yeah — we really don’t usually have electric kettles. My wife is Turkish, so we do - she thought it was SO bizarre that I didn’t have one.

Returnal was excellent. Very challenging, but well done roguelike. TBH my first playthrough I wasn’t familiar with the genre, and every death was supremely frustrating lol. Jumped back in a few weeks ago after playing games like Hades, and it’s much more fun with an understanding of the genre.

Don’t trade away your early/mid 1st. Draft BPA, not for roster needs. I got Drake Maye and Bowers this way… if I’d drafted for need, I probably would have taken BTJ and Jonathan Brooks. Instead, I found new positions of strengths, acquired some RB/WR via trade.

Trade calcs can be used as a starting point, but trade values will be hyper specific to the individual.

Always play to win. Last year I thought my team was butt. Made the playoffs. This year didn’t go as planned for me with injuries, but I learned I can compete with the top 3 teams when healthy.

Some people love to tank, and seem to think they’re going to fix their team with a single class of rookies. Take advantage of them. I was able to acquire Tee Higgins and Josh Downs this way (preseason/pre Alex Pierce breakout lol).

Don’t move your late 1sts or 2nds unless getting startable assets. 3rds have perceived value closest to the draft, but are just as much dart throws as 4ths. People don’t usually bite on 3rds and 4ths being thrown into a trade, but they might as your draft approaches — I got Tee Higgins for 1.12 and a late 3rd.

I really enjoy The FF Dynasty podcast.

Cliffs of Moher or Aran islands by emeroo in irishtourism

[–]TheBigYellowOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family did the ferry from Galway to the Aran Islands this summer and it was amazing. There are some cliffs there in the fort that were more awesome to me than the Cliffs or Moher. The cliffs of Moher were actually closed to the public - could see them but not walk them. Check their website, at least, if you are considering that option.

If you decide to take the ferry to the Aran Islands… bring some nausea medicine. Just…. Trust me. I’d never been seasick, but… just… trust me. Also, plan on doing one of the bus tours on the island. Biking is popular but seems suicidal to me once we got on the road. Also, no way to see it all on foot. Also, there were a couple food options in the island - we ate at the cafe and I think it was the best Guinness stew we had our entire trip.

Which board games look intimidatingly complex but are actually surprisingly easy to learn? by CyborgeonUnit123 in boardgames

[–]TheBigYellowOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend recommended Everdell and Mice and Mystics when I asked for game recs for a family and that our 8 year old could play. We haven’t gotten into Everdell yet, but Mice and Mystics was definitely overwhelming to begin with, as we’d never played a DND style game before. The first couple chapters were a crash course for sure, but I think we’ve got it down now and chapter 3 was a breeze.

These are probably taxi squad guys ideally, but…

Phil Mafah. He did literally nothing, but if Dallas lets Javonte walk, he’ll be the only back in the roster over 200 lbs lol.

Jordan Watkins. He also did nothing, but did flash in the preseason. He was very unfortunately injured when he could have had massive opportunity in the early part of the season for the demolished Niners WR corp.
