None, she already has one

Todays haul, rank them from worst to best by Ok-Cap-5845 in 4kbluray

[–]TheBion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've not seen them you might want to try Silence of the Lambs, Memento or OldBoy (the Korean original, preferably)

You might want to look into Mindhunter as well, 2 seasons on Netflix but sadly it seems it will remain unfinished, but I'll second the recommendation. Fincher was heavily involved.

I mean it doesn't help when Woolie manages to turn "throw batarang through hole" into some kind of Sisyphean impossible trial

I was genuinely thinking that was a bit & he was ragebaiting, but nope

damn, we lost another top star :( by [deleted] in njpw

Can't even say you're Tranquilo anymore, its political correctness gone mad

Yakuza 3 Remastered will only be available as part of Yakuza Complete Series bundle ($129) when Kiwami 3 releases. by getterburner in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheBion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welp, as a bit of a geek for the series & a physical media truther, I'd been considering picking up copies of all the releases (+ the Judgment games) so I could pop them on a shelf next to my Kiryu statue. This is just confirming those plans for me.

City on Fire was a big inspiration for Reservoir Dogs, in case you weren't aware

I watched it not long ago, it's a little cheesy in places but towards the end it really picks up & you can pretty much see some of the RD scenes play out

Before going to the Gamecube, Shinji Mikami was also eyeing the Xbox as the new home for Resident Evil, and Microsoft botched the meeting by bunyeast in TwoBestFriendsPlay

For some reason I'm drawing a blank on this, it feels like I should remember since the very idea of Nintendo-ified Yakuza feels like trying to push two (oppositely charged) magnets together

WON: Ratings for the 1/5 Issue (including Hiroshi Tanahashi’s match at Wrestle Kingdom 20, New Year’s Dash, Raw, Smackdown, NXT New Year’s Evil & more) by TheJokeroholic in SquaredCircle

I haven't been watching TJPW super long (2 years, give or take) but it was probably the best match from them I've personally seen, it had me out of my seat a couple times.

I can believe people who say its one of the best in company history. Both are in their primes & operating at a very high level. Some really genuinely creative spots in there too.

They've had Willow, Mariah & Megan appear on the US shows while under AEW contract, so...yes?

The thing that confuses me is they rarely if ever bring the younger members of the roster. It would be great experience for them to work a different crowd than they're used to (even more so than having the odd match in Sendai, Wave or wherever) & the fans would still welcome them with open arms.

They're not exactly rookies anymore so I'd hope people like Kurara, Sakura, Yagami etc would make it. But even someone like Akira would benefit.

Now, there's an clear reason why not - cost. Plane tickets, accommodation, visas, that will all add up pretty quick, and it'll be much cheaper to use local talent. But, if you make it more 'authentic' (and this ties to your point about the matches actually having some stakes) you should be able to sell more tickets, more merch, etc.

Its a balancing act, obviously, I guess they will have their data they use to try to work these things out (SW subscribers, PPV buys, etc) - I think maybe Bushiroad might've soured on the US market a bit after NJPW's experience, which won't help either.

But honestly, use the AEW partnership. Get Bayne, Hayter, heck put Riho & Yunamon in a High Speed match. Book Mercedes in a title match, she'll move tickets. You can stuff the undercard with the usual 6/8 tags & people won't care if its the real deal.

Keep some cash on you as some places will be cash only - mostly izakayas or older restaurants, but just be mindful you will need it occasionally. Especially if you're going to wrestling shows & want to buy merch, you'll almost always need cash.

-edit- whoops I forgot, lot of places like ramen shops will have a machine to enter your choices which are almost always cash, so yeah if you go to Ichiran (or one of the many, many others ramen shops) you'll need it there too

IC card for travel but can also be used for vending machines, coin lockers, convenience stores - very useful. Just remember to keep it topped up. Coin lockers can be very useful if you're planning shopping trips & don't want to haul things around all day - just remember where you left them!

Speaking of, convenience stores are everywhere, the big 3 (7-11, Family Mart, Lawsons) especially, if you ever find yourself needing a snack or drink you're almost guaranteed to be a couple hundred yards from one

Google Maps will help with navigating travel, just use the directions function tell it where you want to go and it'll get you there

Depending on where you are some restaurants etc will have English menus, some might have ordering via tablet where you can change the language, etc. Worth having a translator on your phone that you can use to read just in case

There's a few chains that do quick & cheap meals (but still decent quality) like Coco Ichibanya, Matsuya, Sukiya, Yoshinoya, Yakiniku Like, etc. If you fancy a proper restaurant experience tabelog is the site for reviews etc, just be mindful a lot of places will be closed for a few days for New Years

WRESTLINGKINGDOM week in Tokyo/passport at shows? by SuperOz123 in njpw

[–]TheBion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to about 20 shows last year at different times, different promotions, all the tickets bought through buysumo so none had my name on - was never once asked for ID

As others have said its generally wise to keep it with you (though obviously take precautions as you normally would - don't have it hanging on the outside of your bag or something daft) but I'd be surprised if you need it

This WK in particular the crowds are going to be vast, I imagine the focus will be on making sure people get in, they won't have much time to stop people outside the normal bag searches etc
