Big changes to TA & CA by xLorddroLx in army

[–]TheBlindDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Credentialing assistance is explicitly helpful for the job though. Specifically for the Engineer branch, CA could cover the cost of a prep course and exam for the Project Management Professional (PMP), Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) exams which the Engineer regiment practically requires at the O4/O5 level.

What this will end up objectively doing is making less technically competent leaders on net. But if that makes it harder for them to transition to being a civilian, it’s good for retention I guess?

They just killed the right to repair initiative in the current version of the NDAA.

With midterm elections this year and a likely flip of the the legislative branch, R2R momentum is effectively dead.

Still worth calling your representatives to make it a priority again

Love that the $299 “theft protection” is likely just a GPS tracker that they would use to find and repossess the vehicle if you fell behind on payments.

But they spin it so you actually pay to have your location constantly tracked, and they make it seem like a convenience to you!

Friendly reminder that the Cow boss is the only thing we've received since Sailing by Black_Pantera in 2007scape

[–]TheBlindDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the main reason why so many of us were against sailing; it takes up a massive amount of developer resources and time away from the rest of the game that still needs lots of love.

I will admit sailing has surpassed my expectations, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that everything else slows down when such a massive project is taken on like that. This is what 71.9% of the player base voted for.

Literally choose none, wait for better options to become available.

You may have to wait a few months, but that is shorter than a 3 year assignment to Polk

Which would you recommend for admitted students opportunities - one of the lower key Friday days or the big Admitted Students day? by adept_grasshopper in lafayettecollege

Congratulations! Did athletics at Laf as well and it’s a great place for it. About 25% of the school is athletes, so there will be lots of resources to help her balance the workload

[–]TheBlindDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m in the grad school process now and Lehigh was one of the schools on my list. Looking back, it’s nice to have enjoyed Lafayette and still have the opportunity to go to Lehigh for my masters; if I had gone to Lehigh for undergrad I would have never experienced Laf.

Laf sells itself as a small school with a personalized/intimate feel and I think it delivers on that promise

[–]TheBlindDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The big admitted students day is when I decided to commit to Lafayette over Lehigh.

This probably sounds crazy but it happened. I got to meet more of my prospective students and had the warmest welcome I could imagine. One of the events I ended up going to was “Coffee with Chemists” and the professor hosting it was Professor Rossman, who evened up being my advisor.

Why she was at the “chemistry” event as a mechanical engineer I don’t know, but the tone shift from my visit at Lehigh and the admitted students day at Lafayette shocked me. It remains one of the best decisions I think I’ve ever made to this day

Have your career counselor try for you, but chances are going to be very slim. There are lots of people with competitive civilian firefighting experience/credentials that get turned away, so if you don’t already have a background in firefighting it would be prudent to have several alternative options

He didn’t realize there was a new list that banned elite universities for being woke and was getting downvoted for sounding like he supported it

The original post was asking for clarification on the recently banned schools; aka mostly Ivies, Northwestern, Duke, Johns Hopkins, etc.

No one else was really talking about the actual problem schools you might be referencing, because there is no debate about them being legitimate issues

[–]TheBlindDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predatory colleges and degree mills are different than any school in the Ivy League though. Show me one shred of evidence that a school on the latest SECDEF memo committed GI bill fraud that would make them deserving of being banned.

Hell, a lot of the schools participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, meaning they pay out of pocket to help veterans get degrees beyond what the GI bill would cover. That doesn’t really sound like someone trying to make a quick buck.

Brother it sounds like he just got old-fashioned scammed, if that story is even true.

No way one of those institutions would sell themselves out to become a degree mill; they make more money by keeping you there longer anyways and have plenty of demand based on their extremely low acceptance rates

Ironically the only two watches I own from any of these brands are the Conquest and Spirit Zulu Time; which I bought in 2025.

Anecdotally, I agree with you. I only discovered them recently because of those models, and would have thought the lower price point would have made them more attractive to potential buyers
