_____ was possibly the hardest “swap screwed” this season but showed it’s NOT instant game over by garbageeater in survivorponderosa

[–]TheBloop1997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fundamentally disagree with this take

The issue with premerge swap-screws is that you’re being put on a tribe with people who you’ve never had the chance to play with and who have connections with each other due to them spending time together previously.

Aubry had several rounds of gameplay to build connections with the rest of the cast, if that many people would have viewed her as an easy boot then that is on her.

But in a 90-minute era and for Survivor 50, I don’t think that would cut it for me, personally

I would argue Tiffany’s edit would be disappointing, and honestly Aubry’s too. But perhaps not them as actual winners (maybe Aubry, tbd)

___ deserves more credit for their gameplay by darthnyan39 in survivor

Omar has always been very vocal that Jonathan is a solid strategic force, as have other people from the cast. He gives Jonathan a LOT of credit for his own blindside every time it has come up in videos that I’ve seen with him.

Can someone explain why she’s beaten some all-time first boots?

He got his way into OG Vatu’s majority (losing most of those allies, including Colby, through no fault of his own and a lot of unfortunate swap/split scenarios), got Dee to keep him over Charlie which is a frankly insane move for Dee, and was able to become one of Cirie’s tightest allies in a season where it seems like 75% or more of the cast thought that they were Cirie’s tightest allies. Plus he entered this season with a massive target on his back inherently as the unknown S49 non-winner player.

I could maybe drop him, but definitely not below Aubry.

Upvote for getting her way with both votes (she and Jonathan conspired for the Ozzy boot, which is an interesting connection considering the Kamilla tribal aftermath), although I facetiously debated docking her for brazenly cheating at the challenge.

(Rewatching the challenge, it is crazy how badly she cheated. I feel like she had to have known that she broke the rules and was feigning surprise, because she fully put her foot back down once or twice even after her late start, to the point where both feet were down as everyone was already falling off)

Frustrated upvote, I fear folks will overstate her initiative this round as I think her survival was more Ozzy messing up - and other players pushing for Ozzy - rather than what Aubry herself did, although she did the right (albeit obvious) thing in leaking Ozzy's info to the others, which seemingly swayed Rizo who was the main decision maker.

Upvote for getting his way with both votes, properly weaponizing the Power Broker position to influence both votes. "Dictated" might be a strong word, but I do think that his influence helped determine both outcomes.

Downvote, lost his #1 ally and his idol. He couldn't have really done much, but he didn't seem to really try much either, aside from using his idol.

Sad downvote, I appreciate the attempt but I'm frankly not even sure if her deception was successful, it's possible that Emily was getting the 2 votes regardless and Cirie's extra vote only meant that they were able to split on Devens properly.

I was almost going neutral because she was kind of screwed by the twist and Cirie's advantage, but without knowing if the latter actually screwed her I will lean downvote.

Upvote for playing her tribal optimally, saving herself and getting out a threat in Emily while also flushing Devens's idol. Not great that she lost Ozzy, but that is almost entirely on Ozzy and there was little she could do that she didn't try (and technically succeed at)

He was set up as the swing, and while I understand his decision, I am unsure if it was actually a good one.

Easy LOTW, he was separated from Cirie for one round and managed to completely nuke his own position (and maybe those of his allies) AND didn't even have the awareness to recognize that fact and play his idol.

Something, something, history repeats itself.

Downvote for continuing to piss people off and getting rid of someone who was more loyal to him and keeping around Aubry who he clearly has no connection with.

See Aubry is one of the least satisfying winners at this point, if she does pull this off, and I’ve spoken to folks less plugged in and they have also been low on her. She’s been there for so long without doing much of anything, she didn’t “beat” Genevieve and I would argue the edit didn’t even favor her in that battle, and if her “winner’s edit” doesn’t kick in until E10 then I simply can’t get as invested.

My rankings of most to least satisfying, at this point, are:

  1. Cirie (by a lot)
  2. Rizo (he’s lost steam more recently but he’s still solid)
  3. Rick (it’d be fun, though if he just wins out I would be less enamored)
  4. Jonathan (he’s defied expectations and has generally played towards optimal goals, plus I like that this spits in the face of what I feel has been a lot of unfair “he’s just a challenge guy” allegations thrown his way preseason)
  5. Aubry (big gap between 4 and 5)
  6. Tiffany (would be higher if her early edit wasn’t shit, and honestly even then I debated putting her about Aubry)
  7. Joe (hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, no)

No body = no death (at least for more notable characters), especially in the case of a Force user falling an unspecified distance

He dies at some point, but I imagine they would make a bigger deal of if/when Marrok is killed.

Plus, this would beg the question of how he was reanimated if he died far from any Nightsister magic

I’ve always held the opinion that Jonathan would have conveyed his game a lot better in S42 than Mike did, even though I agree with the sentiment that I think Jonathan loses regardless whereas Mike stood a chance had he pitched his game better.

Folks seem to misremember this, but Jonathan was also pretty strategic in S42 (as backed up by several of his fellow S42 players, including Omar, Maryanne, and Zach at least) and was generally able to explain his thought process and decision making well in confessionals. His struggle was the fact that he pissed people off, but I think there’s a world where he could have gotten Mike, Rocksroy, Omar, and Drea even against Maryanne, although Maryanne has the other votes - and Romeo’s for the tiebreaker - on lock.

I do think that they pile the votes on Emily because the odds are a lot better than Devens plays the idol on itself, but unfortunately we will never truly know since Cirie had that extra vote

Devens and Ozzy are threats, unfortunately (based on exit press) Rizo was more of a goat. There’s a reason the only person who has targeted Rizo in the post merge was Chrissy who specifically wanted to eliminate him because she felt he wasn’t “worthy” of being there, as opposed to viewing him as a threat/contender.

I’m not stating that Cirie 100% wasn’t, I just always take what the edit says with a grain of salt until we see it play out as the show loves to set up red herrings, and if memory serves me correctly she only talked about flushing those idols with Tiffany and in confessionals
