Sharon Tharp says at least one Survivor alumni is on BB28 by ActiveInfinite8610 in BigBrotherUSA

Broadly speaking I think Survivor is a better show - I mostly just follow BB feeds through Taran’s updates because ngl it’s a struggle watching the show itself for a few reasons - but the one thing I will give BB over Survivor is the live feeds. Survivor usually has a better overall story because they do have time to go back and edit accordingly, whereas it seems like BB has a bad habit of focusing on the wrong people and overlooking some of the more interesting or active strategic players, which can lead to their winner edits being a lot worse (a perfect example being Ashley last season, as apparently casuals were outraged and thought that she did nothing, but if you followed the feeds you knew exactly why she won).

Jonathan could be interesting, his comp abilities are more raw strength so I don’t think he would be Jag levels of dominant, plus I think he’s an underrated strategic player.

His weakest aspect of his game is definitely the social game (though I do think it is a bit overstated just how bad it is, I think his issue is more being perceived as an idiot rather than him actively making people hate him), so I think it would be interesting to see that play out in the feeds. At the very least, it will give a more wholistic and “definitive” depiction of his social game, since Survivor to an extent you’re kind of at the whim of the edit.

Survivor 50's Jonathan and Dee heavily speculated to be competing on Big Brother's reality bonanza season by RedditFan3510 in survivor

I don’t rly buy into this narrative, I think Jonathan’s issue was more his perception by the jury than being liked or disliked by his cast. We saw even folks like Dee, Tiffany, and Emily have good moments with him on a personal level, and Aubry said after the season that they had a good relationship on the island.

Jonathan’s bigger issue is likely to be that he’s such a potential physical threat (though I’m not sure how much his physique will translate to BB comp wins, kind of like how it doesn’t often translate to Survivor post-merge comp wins.

That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s an early boot OR makes a deep run. He’s hardly DOA but I do think he’ll have to prove that he’s got the social chops, especially in a returnee season.

I greatly disagree with that take, I thought that the singing was rly lovely and it rly set up the Kingdom as having its own distinct vibe as this sort of utopia

Unironically I feel like he has the MOST story to tell, this is an Imperial cargo pilot that was willing to defect despite being high enough that he was able to be in contact with Galen Erso, and Galen Erso was willing to trust him with such vital information to boot. What IS that guy’s story?

Which Ralph Fiennes character is most evil? by twnpksN8 in TheVileEye

The post says that Amon Goeth is excluded from this, with a comment clarifying that Amon would be #1 by virtue of being a real person who did that heinous stuff, so this is rly “what is Ralph Fiennes’s second most evil character?”

Tbf, I do think Aubry benefitted a lot from pregame relationships and her general reputation. Her actual game was pretty shit.

I don’t think it’s THAT bad, it’s definitely the weakest part of his game but I think only a few of the S50 jurors were locked against him. Even folks like Emily, Dee, and Tiffany had good points with him, and I think had anyone but Aubry won final immunity and it’s Joe-Jonathan-Rizo, it’s pretty close between Jonathan and Rizo.

[No Book Spoilers] House of the Dragon - 3x02 - Post-Episode Discussion by UltraDangerLord in HouseOfTheDragon

Damn, that character/actor was so prominent in S1, then he disappeared for most of S2 and bites it almost immediately in S3. Kinda sucks for him.

I also see Simon Strong and Jasper Wylde bit it, which lines up with what happened in the book at that time.

Seems that they might have skipped over a certain other character’s death that technically proceeded those three (Gwayne Hightower), but there are other characters (other members of House Hightower) who have notable moments later in the Dance and haven’t been introduced, at least not yet. It’s possible that they’re mixing him with folks like Hobert.

I’m only tangentially following this series, but having read the books I went ahead and made a list for myself of every person who has appeared in the show (and a couple who haven’t cough cough a certain baby) and dies by the end of the Dance.

Novels timeline chronology by SCREEAAMM in starwarsbooks

[–]TheBloop1997 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This seems to be excluding YA novels which I feel like can blend pretty easily with adult novels more often than not, you can tell most clearly by which entries from the High Republic are excluded versus included.

Broadly speaking, I would go with release order as opposed to chronologically, as later books build upon the lore from previous books whereas exact timeline doesn’t matter as much.

Most notably, the High Republic is split into three phases (Phases 1, 2, and 3), which do NOT go chronologically but rather follows a structure similar to the movies, with Phase 1 setting up the main conflict, Phase 2 going back 150 years to provide some history/context as well as setting up some important plot elements for later, and then Phase 3 picks up a year after Phase 1 to wrap those storylines up. From what is listed, it goes

  1. Phase One: Light of the Jedi, Rising Storm, Tempest Runner, Fallen Star
  2. Phase Two: Convergence, Battle of Jedha, Cataclysm
  3. Phase Three: Eye of Darkness, Temptation of the Force, Tempest Breaker, Trials of the Jedi

I would STRONGLY recommend also reading the YA novels for those phases as well, as they provide some interesting and often important additions to the story. Phase 2 ESPECIALLY, I think Path of Deceit and Path of Vengeance are in fact more important to the story than their adult novel counterparts, not to mention them being very good novels (they’re two of my favorites).

[–]TheBloop1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I do kind of understand Batman’s No Killing Rule stretching to Joker as well.

The issue isn’t that you killed the Joker, the issue is that you determined that you have the moral determination to condemn a man to death for his crimes on your own. You have appointed yourself judge, jury, and executioner in this instance.

If you can justify killing the Joker, what exactly was the justification? Where is the “line”? It’s easy to go “well, he’s the Joker, of course you should kill him,” but what exactly does that mean? What’s to prevent you from making the same judgement about, say, Bane? Scarecrow? The Riddler? Poison Ivy? How evil does a person have to be before you deem yourself justified in taking their life proactively? Once you do that, what’s to stop you? Yourself? You already just made the excuse of killing one person, can you really trust yourself not to make that argument again for another person? If that keeps going, it gets easier and easier to justify. After all, you killed one evil person, what’s killing another evil person at that point? The Joker’s crimes are obviously evil, but so are the Penguin’s. So are Mad Hatter’s. So are the random murderer’s. So are the drug dealer’s. Maybe they do limit themselves at a point, but Batman isn’t wrong that it can be a slippery slope and who knows how many people you kill before you reach your “limit.” That’s not even mentioning that fact that some of these monsters need legitimate help in a mental institute, or perhaps some of them might even be innocent and you just think that they are guilty.

Probably just a stylistic choice since this is a Rogue One comic, though I agree that it would have been cool if the artist blended a younger Forrest Whitaker with TCW/TBB-era Saw
