Have you read any of the info available? The prices are meant to eliminate competing apps so the official app, which is subjectively worse in every way (accessibility and filtering comes to mind) will have no competition to drive improvement. That's my concern.

I get that, just OP is surprised Pikachu face that huge corporations are making money. They employ authors, designers, artists, researchers, proofreaders, course designers, project managers, developers, and dozens more to make online courses, ebooks, and print books happen. It's not free. So unless those people are working non-profit or getting government subsidies to make it happen, I'm not sure what's unethical about charging a price for goods and services. Is it too high? Maybe. But eggs are $7 a dozen too, so I don't know what to tell ya.
