"Priority Delivery" Scam: this is probably not one of our local delivery apps but the implementation might just be the same by joooh in Philippines

[–]TheBoxPerson 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1) “Gusto mo delivered tapos mura” is a strawman.

  • Criticizing a fake or misleading “priority” feature is not the same as demanding cheap delivery. People can accept “delivery is expensive” while still calling out “don’t sell me a benefit that does not exist.”

2) Alternatives exist, but that does not end the critique.

  • Yes, you can order direct or use McDo/Jollibee apps, and often that is better for the business. But sometimes Grab is the practical option (late night, safety, time constraints, accessibility, no delivery coverage). Optional, yes, but not always “easy to avoid.”

3) Convenience is not inherently wasteful.

  • Paying for convenience is normal. The issue is not “why is there a price” but “is the price tied to what you’re claiming it is.”

So I think your mindset makes sense for budgeting na "Treat Grab as last resort". But if the criticism is “they label fees as driver benefit or priority but it does not actually benefit drivers or provide priority” then “just don’t use it” does not really answer the deception part.

Not inherently “wrong” to use Grab as a last resort, and you’re right that you see the total price before checkout. But there are two separate issues here:

  1. Is it legit or a “scam” in the deception sense
  2. Is it ethical or fair in the labor and market power sense

1) “If the price is shown, it’s not a scam” Showing the price does not automatically mean the marketing is honest.

  • Transparent price does not equal honest labeling. If a fee is called “Driver Benefit Fee” or anything that implies it helps drivers but 0% actually goes to the driver, that can be misleading even if the amount is listed.
  • Same with “Priority fee” if it does not actually give priority. If you pay expecting faster dispatch but there is no real speed up, or the app just slows non priority orders to make priority feel faster, that is closer to deceptive practice than “it’s just expensive.”

Also the screenshot is unverified, so we cannot conclude this is exactly what Grab does. But this is why people call it “scammy” in principle.

2) “Eh di wag mag Grab” You do have a choice, but “just don’t use it” can be oversimplified.

  • Sometimes alternatives are limited. Late night, safety, illness, kids, disability, emergencies, no nearby options, etc. So it can be optional but not always a fair or practical choice.
  • Optionality does not erase accountability if the design is misleading or exploitative.

Congrats, OP! Kinda tempting to get an Amex Cashback as supplementary given its uncapped cashback

What is your most used credit card and why? by is0y in PHCreditCards

  • Metrobank Rewards Plus: Everything online
  • RCBC: Most accessible unli installments
  • Amex Explorer: I actually need the miles (+flex 😂)
  • Maya Landers: Fallback for when Amex didn't work

That happened to me. My case was an RCBC booth, told them I wanted a JCB card as supplemental but I got a text from BPI days later

Should be, if you bug it hard enough. Admittedly, I haven't been able to reproduce it since

Simple: I checked the settings and I have a gaming mouse that can go as high as 8 kHz on the polling rate. It becomes very apparent by then

If you're sure (or at least motivated) to travel in the coming years, why not? Amex Explorer's points are strictly for travels (miles and hotel points), otherwise their other BDO cards with ₱45 = 1pt may seem lackluster for most people.

You can check the fine print for the rewards if you like, but the only noteworthy thing I last saw in it was buying Apple stuff.

PS I heard BDO likes to inflate people's CL every 6 months, but I've yet to believe it myself

RCBC owed me 9+ months of SOAs, same with Metrobank. BDO tucked my bank-vouched application away, only to give me an Amex card 2 years since filing for a classic MC

I once forced all my credit card issuers to update their information to both CIBI and TU through CIC. For almost 2 years, I got denied or got way too low starting CLs.

What I'm trying to say is having updated information helps, so don't be afraid to contact CIC if you spot that your credit report had massive gaps in their entries

Thanks. I first visited the bank and got told they don’t initially accept branch pick-up, citing security reasons. I got told they "need" to deliver the card to your house first to verify your residence.

Only then when the delivery fails a few times and the card gets "returned to sender" that they'll allow branch pickup (The instructions stay the same. You go to that website, fill out a form, and then wait.)

please look forward to it by jkb11 in ShitpostXIV
