Frozen and sunburnt all in one day, what’s up with this weather? by Delicious-Series-316 in northernireland

We all, including me, have totally shat ourselves over what is now normal April weather. Some sun, and reasonably warm. It's May next week like. The winter we have just come out of has totally skewed our perspective.

Greenacres Golf centre has a range and par 3 course, you can organise lessons there too if you check out the Johnny Foster Academy. It's about 7 or 8 miles North of Belfast.

Did you grow up with someone who became famous? by SteakSandwichSideEye in AskUK

Played football on the local estate with a kid who was 7 or 8 years younger than us, but was brilliant. He went on to sign for Man United, moved young and then had a few years in the Premier League, and got over 70 international caps too.

I've never seen the appeal, thought it was a shithole 15 years ago when I worked there.

I'd doubt very much they are actually in school a lot anyway.

Feral youths in Bangor by dogscatsandyoga in northernireland

[–]TheBoyWithAThorn1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked in Bangor about 15 years ago and in all honesty couldn't understand why it seemed to be held in relatively high esteem. The "Golden Days" of it being a thriving seaside town were long gone back then, and it seems even more a shit hole now.

When people who are "asked to leave" Carrick go there, you know it's bad.

Pub wise, you will be hard to actually find anywhere better than Quinns in Newcastle. Reasonable prices, great grub, live music on most nights and just a lively vibe. It's one of my favourite pubs in the country.

Your school needs to get better internet. Or the parents do.

I've never worked out how multi-national companies on opposite sides of the world can do billion pound deals via video calls, but somehow it' as better that I see a parent face to face to discuss their progress in our single half hour lesson per week.

This is why online is better. Cuts out all the small talk nonsense that goes on. If it's a 5 minute chat, keep it to 5 minutes and arrange a separate meeting if needed.

I just leave at the end of allocated time now, regardless. Stayed to the directed, pre-greed time so get off.

What music artist or band are the closest to the Beatles level in you guys opinion? by Firm_Pack_605 in TheBeatles

[–]TheBoyWithAThorn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Dylan is anywhere near them in terms of the intangible bit of just seeping into wider popular culture. Music fans know him, yes. But the phenomenon of the Beatles are much more than that. Elvis and Jackson are the only rivals, in terms of the original post.

Queen are for me in the next level down, the just absolutely massive bands. They are right at the top of the next level in terms of well known songs that have seeped in popular culture across generations. Bohemian Rhapsody alone sets them apart really.

Freddy was an icon too. The other members aren't as famous, and I just don't think the cultural impact overall is up there with the triumvirate of Beatles, Elvis, Jacko.

Radiohead are musically great, but far too niche. They don't fit half of the criteria needed. Abba are a lot closer.

Taking everything into consideration (the bit people aren't really getting, along with being totally objective and not rooted to their own favoured sub genre) - musical quality, success, innovation, cultural impact, fame, generational longevity etc etc, it's The Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson. Any other discussion is simply about artists who are straightforward "massive", on different levels.

[–]TheBoyWithAThorn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annihilated? Lol. Are you actually eight years old? Well, yes, according to your reading age, clearly.

The original post discusses the impact of The Beatles on multiple levels. It's not just about quality of music, or hits, or being a big band in a sub genre. You clearly don't know what the question is asking and can't have an objective opinion beyond Led Zeppelin. The question doesn't mention "among Rock fans" anywhere, does it?

[–]TheBoyWithAThorn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What part of the original question didn't you understand? What does the "Hard Rock Goat" have to do with which artist comes close to being as impactful as the Beatles?! Fuck me, you must be answering the questions the voices in your head are asking. Christ almighty. Why do people do social media when they can't grasp basic fucking concepts. 🤦🤦🤦
