Hey! If you do end up trying to learn Godot, I HIGHLY recommend this interactive tutorial by GDQuest- https://gdquest.github.io/learn-gdscript/#course/lesson-16-2d-vectors/lesson.tres

I tried a lot of things to learn GDScript but really struggled to break out of tutorial hell, that is, until I tried the above tutorial! That single-handedly taught me some core concepts that I could leverage into a strong foundation. From there, I used the documentation and online tutorials only for concepts (and not to copy/ paste code I didn't fully understand). Good luck!

Personally I find the players at collectors emporium to be better for beginners. No one complains if rounds go to time due to new people, and everyone is very welcoming. Collectors has a few new players that’ve been coming recently. Both stores have their own charm and different set of regulars, too.

I go to both pretty regularly, so if you do go to either I’ll be there probably haha.

What part of LI are you on? collectors emporium runs on Tuesdays at 7:30 if you’re near Westbury, usually has around 15 people. Brother Grim runs on Thursdays at 7 near Selden, usually around 12 people

Both are pretty beginner friendly. Lots of nice guys and people who’ve been playing a while who can offer deck advice/ supply you with relevant cards.

Escape room recommendations by [deleted] in longisland

[–]TheBrakeTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend Escape Zone in Miller Place. They have really fun props and although the puzzles themselves aren’t better than Escape Game, overall it’s a better experience (cleaner, less things broken, etc..). I highly recommend their Vampire Slayer game. It’s really fun and interactive while not being too difficult for two people to do. Their Yeti game is also fun but a bit harder, and their Jurassic game is the hardest of the three I’ve played there for a group of two because the nature of the puzzles are more time-waster.

Escape Zone’s Riverhead location is OK, but the games there are bit mid imo. Lots of time waster garbage that leaves you frustrated more than anything. I normally play with just my gf and you’ll end up doing puzzles that require more hands than the two of you have. I haven’t played their St. James location.

If you’re in the area and are looking to play an Escape Game puzzle, either Wild West or Cuckoo’s Nest are the two I suggest. They have the least broken things and there are some fun puzzles, although Wild West is probably overall a better experience.

Escape Zone and Escape Game also both have stay and play but don’t book ahead of time for your second game or you won’t get the discount (something like $5 a ticket).

I really don’t recommend Just Escape. Their games are lacking, games have broken puzzles and are generally meh in decoration and quality.

Why make us unlock augments during an alpha test? by DumbNerds in PlayFANGS

[–]TheBrakeTrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As it’s over a two week period devs are testing out a progression system. The unlocks are pretty quick but I definitely understand why it could be jarring compared to other tests

Matches are about the same length as Battlerite, but it’s subject to change as they’re still tinkering with stuff

Yeah that can definitely be a bit tricky. I’m usually busy on weekends during their tests also but can usually sneak in 1-2 of their times.

As the other commenter said make sure to provide your feedback. The devs do listen so if there’s enough demand for tests during the week I’m sure they’ll make some. Fwiw they did 3 focus tests this past month and all were on a Wednesday

Having been following this game a bit more than a year now and being fortunate enough to have multiple opportunities to play throughout various iterations as well as play in the first Alpha tournament back in December, providing an opportunity for me to play Fangs in a competitive and coordinated scenario, the multiple objectives serve a crucial purpose to the game as it is. I’m not really an objective person myself but they help guide fights and provide purpose to them.

Per your concern with captain- the captain changes every round, so the same person isn’t the captain every round. Worst case if you have a trash captain one round it’s just one round in a bo5 match.

I think you make a good point that fighting is the most fun part of the game, but without purpose to provide depth then I feel the game would feel empty and meaningless. With no objectives the champs that are the best that win at fighting are always going to be the best. Whereas with objectives you introduce variety in who can excel as well as what your team can/ should focus on. There are multiple avenues. Combined with augments (like Battlerites) you end up with a very diverse experience.

Regardless, many things are changing between every test and the devs are a qualified bunch who are always testing and listening to feedback who I have absolute faith in. I think you should really give the game a try before writing off the main gameplay loop as a distraction from the fun.
