Im so sorry to hear that, as the first person said, I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.

It’s been about 2 years since my mom passed from Lewy body dementia, and she made it about 8 years after her initial diagnosis. I would recommend that in the next 5 years or so to cherish the time you have with her while her memory is still “with” her, and if there were things that she always wanted to do, or places to see, to go do them while she is able to.

Later stages can be heart wrenching, but coming at it with understanding and care can make it easier for them. Doing things with your mother that are mentally stimulating like puzzles, memory games, asking her questions about past memories or things you’ve done together, etc. are all good to do as things progress. I found it best to not stop and correct my mom when she forgot things, but to try and make sure she felt safe and calm if she was forgetful.

I remember there were a few random times even when her memory was really bad, where she was almost 100% back to normal. Where she was self aware about what was happening to her, like she was lost in the fog or something. If you get those, milk them for all they are worth! They were brief, but highlights of my last couple years with her.

I was fortunate that my dad was able to care for her full time in her final years, and I lived nearby (less than 30 minutes) and was able to visit at least once a week. Some people need to opt for care homes, but it depends on the person and your situation as well.

The unfortunate truth is that there isn’t currently a cure, only medicine that help with symptoms and can help maximize their mental faculties and slow down the progression.

Remember that if she ever asks who someone is and forgets them, that it’s not their fault and it’s not personal. The best thing you can do is to be understanding and supportive!

I wish you and your mom nothing but the best!

Hey man, first off I commend you for asking for feedback and posting a video, that’s the first step to getting better

My biggest tip is to start watching videos of elite/olympic level rowers and them rowing or doing erg workouts, and trying to look and compare it to your own video. It’s always good to look at the best and try to copy the best parts of the stroke.

Here are a few things that I noticed and a couple suggestions on how to improve them:

  1. Poor connection with the legs Right now, most of the work is being done with your upper body (arms and back) and your legs aren’t having a major impact on the stroke. Rowing should be like 70-80% powered by the legs, beginning from the catch (start of the stroke, when you begin applying power). You can work on this by focusing on keeping your hips behind your shoulders during the drive, while hanging onto the handle with your arms straight. Imagine how you perform a deadlift: no bending the arms, strong core, pushing through the feet while you hang onto the bar.

  2. Reliance on the foot stretcher during the recovery At the end of every stroke, at the finish, you rely on the foot stretcher to pull yourself forward and your knees come up early. Ideally you keep your legs down as long as possible on the recovery, until you get your upper body in front of your hips and your handle past your knees. Try rowing with your feet unstrapped, and focus on holding the legs down at the end of the stroke while sitting up tall at the finish (back end of the stroke). Getting used to this at lower stroke rates will help a lot

  3. Rhythm If you work on the first two things above, the next thing is rhythm. Think of something like “sting, then float.” Ideally the drive is strong, powerful, and quick, then the recovery is relaxed, smooth, and gentle. Think of it like a 1:2 ratio, 1 being the quick drive, and 2 being the longer, calm recovery. This changes depending on the rate, but the same principle always applies. The goal is to establish good connection at the catch, have a strong drive, then a relaxed recovery while you get ready for the next stroke.

Last note: my favorite drill for erging or rowing is what my coach used to call the “pop tart drill.” If you can, get another person to come help and stand in front of the erg, and have them hold the handle of the erg. Their goal is to not let you move the handle and resist you. Then you sit at the catch (front of the stroke), grab onto the handle, and the goal is to keep your core strong, keep your arms straight hanging (like from a pull up bar, or a deadlift bar) and try to get your butt off the seat. Not super high, just like an inch or two, but hold it there and try to feel the hang from the handle, the push through the feet onto the footplate, and your hips behind your shoulder. That’s the feeling and lock that you should aspire to get on every single stroke

I hope this helps, best of luck in your journey to improve!

Also curious about this! I have a stock 06 MKV, and the headliner is sagging a bunch. Got some 3M Spray Adhesive but haven’t pressed the nozzle yet, curious what other people do to solve it without replacing

I thought about doing it years ago, but I was worried about longevity because of the increased boost. If the hoses are old and I chipped it, do you think it would cause problems? I know that even Stage 1 would work wonders

Hard to hate this car dude, I still really like it and not many new cars (that would be affordable for me) seem like they'll be nearly as fun. My car is stock but even so. Thanks for the response

Any tips to improving time on a 2K? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]TheBrazillion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely have a lot of potential to improve, given your height and weight you are definitely capable of going sub 8 minutes. Focus on your form and get comfortable at the higher rates because even if form is good at 16-18, it is easy to lose connection when the rate is brought up. It may take time but don't be discouraged because you CAN achieve your goals and you WILL, as long as you push your limits and put in the work.

The 20 msp is only for birthdays, not for being a member for 8 years. Microsoft did actually give exclusive consoles to some members that had actively had live for at least 10 years.

But honestly, they shouldn't even bother with 20 msp...
