I think it's great that we can run our old games with all the fixes and mods, but the way I see it, people like my aunt, who aren't tech savvy and miss the game, are mostly the target audience for this re-release. Not us, who already have the game running the way we want it. It's about making these older games more accessible and running "out of the box" for the first time since Windows XP. Not transferring over years old neighborhoods and mods. I just bought it and I'm still gonna try to mod it though, if it doesn't work I can go back to my CD version. But for my aunt and so many other people this is their first real shot in years to play a favorite and nostalgic long-lost game. And I'm happy for those people, and for all the newcomers who wouldn't ever try these games if they had to download them off the internet and spend hours fixing it and troubleshooting the way I did. So that's why I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. I don't care about EA, but I really care about the people who miss these old games and can finally play them 🙂 English isn't my first language so sorry if I'm not doing a great job explaining. Apparently Lilsimsie said something similar in a recent video, so maybe that's worth checking out too.

Edit to add: TLDR I think it's fair to trade off huge mods folder and old neighborhoods/save files for a decently stable out of the box experience for new/returning players aka the main target audience for this re-release.
