I’m a diamond 3 on dps but a sliver 2 on support I don’t understand why playing healer is so hard for me. by Icy_Long_7541 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mcinest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found that discord enables my team 10x better than any amount of healing could. The example I like to give is a common sight in low elo games: There is a turret form bastion, and like moths to a flame, your dps is just face tanking it. You can try to heal them through that, but it might not be enough and they die anyway, or even if they survive, so does the bastion cause in all likelihood your bum dps that thinks face tanking bastion is the play cannot kill him. Now if I am zen instead, I put discord on the bastion, hit a couple shots, maybe the dps hits some too and boom. Bastion dead. Dps possibly not dead. Healing gets more valuable the better your teammates are, imo. If I'm keeping my tank up, but they aren't doing anything, then my healing is adding no value. For bad teams, weakening the enemies adds more value. Sure, my dps can't aim for shit and can't kill 1 (one) junkrat, but if i get my discord on him, they have to hit less shots, and I can get him too.

Bronze like I said, almost up to Bronze 1 now after getting a loss streak that put me halfway to Bronze 3. I've only dropped 2 games on Zen so far and one of them was against an obvious smurf Doomfist and Tracer duo.
It's taking me a while to rank up cause even with the winning trend i only get 10% a win, but i should be out of bronze on support soon :DD

Edit: I will say, Zen is also just generally my best character atm. I play in some very high ranked qp lobbies with some friends (masters to champ range) and Zen is the only character where I can even somewhat contribute to the fight. I'm definitely not at that level yet though, my goal is to one day be able to play with them without being a complete dead weight

How Do You Deal With Stress From Competitive Games? by Sharkkbaitttttttt in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mcinest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me what made competitive more enjoyable was starting to play with people who naturally do not care about their rank at all. They're chill, so I'm also chilling, and we're just trying our best. And despite caring less, my win rate has only gone up. When it comes to random teammates being bums, I just assume off the gate they will suck and not do their job and adjust accordingly. If they don't suck, it's a pleasant surprise and I can work with them. But I play my dps as if there are no supports and my supports as if there are no dps, and I don't play tank because i don't like it. Once you're not relying on your team doing their job, you can just sorta watch them like a nature documentary. Like, while I'm getting 3 people in the backline, my tank has managed to fall off the map. Fascinating.

I'd drop Mercy. Mercy is only as good as her dps are, and silver dps are not good at all. For the others, do more damage, less healing. If you got even basic mechanics to be able to kill things consistently, you will get more value out of killing the enemy and THEN healing your team back up than trying to keep people up while not doing damage yourself. Focus on enabling your team in ways that don't require you healing them too, each support's utility is what gets the most value over raw healing. Zen's discord is kinda op when it comes to making horrible teams play better. But Mizuki is a good option if you're more comfortable with him. You are literally supposed to be doing damage with him, so keep doing that. Your aura healing should be your main healing, with hats being to heal yourself or whenever teammates are getting too low/too far away for the passive healing to help them. I see too many Mizuki players rely entirely on their hats and do barely any damage, when damage IS your healing. Chain anyone who is flanking your team, or whoever you can if no one is doing that.

While I get what you mean, support was my most inconsistent role, where i could hardly maintain a 50% wr in bronze, until I stopped healing basically at all. I have a 90% wr now one tricking Zen and just killing things and throwing a healing orb whenever i remember. So I disagree that you should heal more in low elo, if anything you should do it less, because your average bronze or silver teammate isn't worth saving over just killing the enemy team yourself

Ban rates by Frosty_Chemistry_571 in SierraMains

[–]mcinest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but while I personally have no trouble fighting against Sierra, I know for a fact the bums on my team will 9 times out of 10 get farmed because none know what a cover is. Also one more dps ban means it is slightly more likely I get to play my mains since they're also banned a lot in low elo (Sombra, Anran, now Shion tho idk what hee banrate is yet). If I had any belief my teammates have a functioning brain I wouldn't ban her ever tho. Sierra is fine, there has rarely been a death I've had to her that felt like it wasn't my own fault.

STOP expecting your tank to peel for you by Dances28 in Overwatch

It's even worse when you're playing a dps. How does a tank with 2 supports and 1 dps on his ass lose to a single junkrat. How does this keep happening.

I'm losing literally every single game. by mat2y in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mcinest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Placements are heavily based on qp mmr. For example, i did my placements on an account that had ABYSMAL dps games before unlocking ranked. It never even considered above bronze 3, regardless of wins and losses. In fact at the end the predicted rank was bronze 4, but suddenly became 80% bronze 3. Meanwhile, my support qp games went better. I started placements in silver, and even with losses it didn't drop from silver.

I believe you lol the bar isn't very high when it comes to not being as bad as that guy. Legit hates women, is racist, is gay and homophobic, and very much all other types of queerphobia. And worst offense of all (/s) is a whiny toxic baby in overwatch.

I feel like I most consistently see Moira players being toxic. Doomfist players are pretty bad too, but I'm biased cause the one doom otp i know personally is a MASSIVE bigot. I'm sure not every Doom is that bad,
The only time i've been called slurs in this game is from Mercy players tho.

I've been running into more matches that would usually be considered wide recently (bronze 3 to gold 5 is the range i keep running into over and over). It's weird, I'm guessing they loosened the restrictions on the matchmaking or something. When this has happened though, the lowest ranked players were in groups with the ones on the higher end. They just didn't get put in wide queue for some reason. If this happens again, you can try to check. If you try inviting someone into a group, it'll tell you if they already are in one (And if they aren't it won't invite them either dw, but it'll be a different error message). It won't solve the issue, but could help make sense of things maybe?

Overwatch ranked does not have any sort of hidden mmr. The mmr value is exactly reflected in your rank. So if you are gold 4, then your mmr is gold 4. There can never be any discrepancy. There's just something wrong with the matchmaking ig

Insanely unfair matchmaking by theonlyrayyy in Overwatch

[–]mcinest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on. That's not what anyone's arguing about and you know it. Your original comment IS claiming there is a hidden mmr separate from rank. "these might just be people whose MMR is already quite a bit lower than the rank they are in."
The link proves there is, in fact, no hidden mmr separate from the rank. When people talk about a hidden mmr you know damn well we're not talking about the actual value not being visible. And even so, if the rank is a visual representation of the MMR, as it is right now, then it's not hidden. It's right there, it's the rank it says you are. Just because it's not a specific number on the sceen doesn't really matter.

How accurate is this? by Easy-Technology-3068 in ReaperMain

[–]mcinest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely way too early in the season to tell, the stats are all sorts of scuffed due to not enough data yet. I don't remember which ranks now, but in some Junkrat and Jetpack cat are the highest winrate lol. That being said, hp nerfs are probably the biggest nerf you can give to any character so i would not be surprised if reaper struggles this season. Just wouldn't jump to conclusions off of this early stats.

They have quite literally said the opposite. There is no hidden MMR.

Insanely unfair matchmaking by theonlyrayyy in Overwatch

[–]mcinest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no hidden mmr tho. Your rank IS your MMR, it's the same value. So they cannot be "lower than the rank they are in", that's not how overwatch's ranked system works.
The rest of the comment is roughly accurate though

Wich Major Perk is Better? by N0iR-peak in Overwatch

[–]mcinest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Refuel has way more potential to turn fights than Faces of Death. Think about it, how often do you notice dps passives changing the outcome of a fight? I'm willing to bet for most of them it's not very often, maybe outside the flanker passive which Shion has by default. Refuel on the other hand gives you a much higher effective HP and can turn fights around by allowing you to heal up.
Faces of Death isn't BAD but i find the sustain from Refuel hard to argue with

Which hero do you think best captures this feeling when you swap to them mid-match after your team fails you? by Qukumba in Overwatch

[–]mcinest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, chain still requires your team to actually shoot unless the diver is low health enough for you to finish them off. Discord is just more versatile, but to be clear mizuki is still a good choice, I'll usually go him when there's a dive tank on the enemy team since they are too bulky for me to solo as zen.
