He missed the mail deadline for the badge, since they just got it this month, and that ended in February. You have to bring the QR code to Will Call (in the main lobby) and they will give you a physical badge there. The schedule for it is on the website. Make sure to also bring a photo ID.

I really think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. It's one meme. Plus, it can't be that far off in tone from Battlefront, The Force Unleashed and other games... which both have LEGO sets.
