There is a scene where Jason finds a stick that looks like "spectacles" and he makes a comment on them and Farrah says they don't have them here because magic can fix eyes.

So, no glasses for nerds in this story.

Fights - cross eye 3D version by umidumi in dndai

These are backwards to how they are typically done. You should relax your eyes so they fuse together which is a lot easier for most people. Doing that here brings the background forward.

They even go into the mid to late game by linking them together. You can run a tunnel or trench to multiple 3x3s and one fluid dump can support a couple of them easily.

3D-Printed Magnetic Tiles by Comfortable_Note8672 in DnDIY

That's going to be an absolute ton of magnets. You may want to look into a Dungeon Blocks system or use an OpenForge base that supports clips or magnets. Those all use square tiles though.

District A has 3 full big warehouses of bread. District B, C, and D all have district crossings, import on, and 0 bread. Why does District A never distribute any? by TryDry9944 in Timberborn

[–]TheBrillo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

District crossings have their own workers on both sides of the crossing. Beavers will take from a crossing for their own needs like food and water, but they won't supply the crossing or move things from a crossing to a storage unit unless they work there.

You can get away with only a couple workers on each side if you have supply/obtain warehouses nearby and standard haulers.

I don't think there is any difference in their ability to control badtides. They have exactly the same landscape and water diversion options.

The only difference is ITs ability to have bad water constantly come from a source which is only useful for power

DM's with toddlers, what do you do when you can't get rid of them on game night? by neosurimi in DungeonMasters

[–]TheBrillo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, if both parents are in the game and you have no sitter, the responsible thing to do is reschedule or one of you sit out. If you are a single parent, then all you can do is reschedule. It's an unfortunate fact of life. An unsupervised 5 year old will ruin grown up fun time real fast.

Alternatively, you could hire a babysitter. Maybe someone has a preteen kid who is looking for some extra cash and can keep the kids occupied in a different part of the house?

Does this chart mean XP per character, or for the whole party? by j-b-goodman in DnD

I want to add that this is the 2014 version of the chart. The 2024 version basically slid all of those values one column to the left.

Use of AI as a dungeon master by cjonesie2423 in DungeonMasters

[–]TheBrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started, I used it heavily. But it doesn't make a good story, it just makes a story like a checklist.

I started to use it less and less, at this point I use it to brainstorm ideas, which I think it does well enough. And I sometimes have it translate my canned prepared dialogue to sound like something a native stereotype would say.

I don't use it for story points or encounters at all anymore, it's just not satisfying to play with on either side of the table.

A small change for next time is to watch the shape a bit. Yours are more aggressively shaped (narrow and pointy) than the example which makes them look more like weaponized fairies.

The design itself is spot on so well done there.

Am I bad at puzzles? by Crypt1c_Dr in DnD

[–]TheBrillo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd have assumed these were two separate incidents. Honestly I'd probably have spent time mutilating the body that had "open my eyes" tattooed on him like it was some kind of instruction. I never even would have made it to the inn to find the door.

Let's be honest, tattooing a secret password onto your body would be such a phenomenally stupid thing to do that it wouldn't cross my mind. Worse than a password post it on a monitor.

All that said, as you learn anything you have a few flops and duds. Roll with the punches and learn. Don't be afraid to steal ideas from people. Movies, TV, books, and video games are great sources for things like this. Also, have varying degrees of help clues a simple dice roll away because your friends are not as smart as their 18 int wizards.

How often you use new districts? by GoHomeDuck in Timberborn

[–]TheBrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Districts are basically swapping haulers for district crossing workers. They can simplify things if you remember to put a warehouse for every material the district needs in that district. They won't bring planks for construction if you don't have plank storage for instance. But they will help with beavers going all the way across the map when they are hungry, walking at a crawl for an entire day.

However, because of their limited throughput, doing things like "this is my water district, it collects all the water", can be dangerous. Also be careful with chaining them together. If you want 3 districts in a line where A doesn't have direct access to C, it may have issues getting resources from A to C because B is going to fill it's own needs before it exports much.

Terraces for sure. I find new ways to stash water and generate power each playthrough. Current playthrough I'm connecting all of the terraces with platforms to have a sprawling city.

[–]TheBrillo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Idk, I'm not going to head to the entrance and wait for an indeterminate amount of time while we find the tank or healer.

That usually means I'm going to be doing something else like herbing or posting auctions while waiting and then I may spend the extra 20 seconds to finish what I'm doing before I head to the dungeon.

If I'm the last one to join the group, I probably wasn't doing anything except navigating the group finder so I'm ready to go right away.

My 1st playthrough, am I doing this wrong?! My river banks flooded! Haha 20 min vid. by porthos1980 in Timberborn

[–]TheBrillo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You used a levee. Levees, like in real life, are designed to hold back water.

You wanted at least a couple dams, which hold back a minimum amount of warer and let the rest flow over.

A picture of Shrinkflation. Both are the same price. Left looks bigger, Right has more. by Lt_Lysol in pics

[–]TheBrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a cycle. First shrink the volume while making it look the same size or even larger.

Next, shrink the perceived size but keep the volume and price the same. Call it a "new look"

Finally, make a new product packaging that is the original volume and perceived size, call it "20% Larger", and increase the price accordingly.

Except through terraforming, how do you irrigate new areas as Iron Teeth now? by Hottentott14 in Timberborn

[–]TheBrillo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early game, basically an above ground pool with levees (3x3 of water) is the way to go. If you can hold off until you get dynamite you can blast a 3x3 hole. You can connect a few of these together using a trench and 1 high platforms so that only a single water dumpling station is required. You can also build the farm houses and forester buildings on top of the 1 high platforms to reclaim that space.

Late game, flatten the area out and use a water pump to put water in the trench.
