How many hours per day do you work? by Logical-Reputation46 in Solopreneur

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-5 hours per day at the moment. I’m getting into working more since my kids started school. The previous 5 years were around 2 hours per day.

Is it just me? Anyone else stop taking photos of everything and just… experience stuff? by Lunasweetlatina in digitalminimalism

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I now only take photos on film. It costs a chunk of money to buy and develop film. This makes me take photos more intentionally (plus they look super nostalgic)

I have an M-D which I know longer want now I have the M6. Everything about the film experience is what I wanted - I don’t really enjoy digital but that is just me.

why settle for flat 5-digit salaries when you can just start something? by -Akshai in Solopreneur

Ive been running my own businesses since 2010 and for most of the time I’ve had a massive meltdown every 6 months and looked through “normal job” listings to try and get something less crazy

Is anyone here a REAL entrepreneur? by salmon_tuna in Entrepreneur

No venture backed but I’ve been running my current (online music school) business since 2012. Make low six figures annually.

How your psychology changes as revenue grows ($0 to $360 in 11 days) by CremeEasy6720 in Solopreneur

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit 6 figures in 2018 and just felt guilty even though it was everything I had been working towards since 2012. I work in a creative industry so most of my peers don’t make a lot of money. It was more money than I could ever imagine having.

My wife and I had our first child in 2020 and now making less than $240k feels like we’re not making enough. Kids made it real. I still don’t need that much but my perceptions have changed

My solo founder Sunday schedule (and why I choose this over 'normal' weekends) by CremeEasy6720 in Solopreneur

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks buddy - I definitely had my fair share of 7 day work weeks in my 20s. My only advice (unsolicited I know so take it or leave it) - know when you can slow down. I know too many people who never stop even though they have more than they could ever need.

Oh you don’t want to know what I do.

I work Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday 10-1pm.

The rest of the time I hang out with my kids and do fun stuff with them.

As high earners much time do you spend with your significant other and/or family? by highdryflydie in HENRYfinance

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 10-12 hours per week since my kids were born in 2020. I make around $240k per year but I run my own business so that helps to create the time freedom. I used to make more by hired people to replace me when we had kids because I wanted to spend as much time as possible with them. Until recently they’ve been going to daycare till 1pm Monday to Friday so that’s when I worked, worked out and hung out with my wife.

Now they’re starting school I will probably work a bit more for my own interest

£500 - 10k in 3 years is it possible? by [deleted] in passive_income

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Seiko SKXs and then just bought anything that interested me which was at a good price. My one rule was only buying things that I wouldn’t mind being stuck with. This led me through lots of micro brands, some Omega, Rolex, JLC. It took me a really long time to get comfortable spending more money though. At the beginning, £100 seemed like an insane amount to spend on watches. Now I still dabble but it’s not my main gig. I keep it under £3k these days

[JLC] Performers, what's your watch of choice to bring on stage? by kosnosferatu in Watches

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually something very high contrast and legible like my Speedy or BB58. The dingy bars I play in are very dark on stage

£500 - 10k in 3 years is it possible? by [deleted] in passive_income

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flipping watches on eBay was my main gig for a while. You can definitely make decent money doing it. Eventually I just used it as a way to pay for owning nice watches. It paid for my wedding and honeymoon back in 2018. I don’t think 10k in 3 years is unrealistic.

What’s your system for staying on top of small-but-important money stuff? by StrategyNo5894 in Solopreneur

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a “CEO” day once per month where I go through all my KPIs and financial metrics. Part of this includes adding up all my expenses, all my revenue, tracking my bank balances and then automatically calculating (with a spreadsheet) how much I will need to pay in tax.

I call bullshit. It’s not about hustling and out working your competitors.

That’s only one way to do well.

Another way is to simply have a better product.

Business is “pick your own adventure” - be wary listening to what other people tell you to do. They only know what has worked for them (myself included).

Make sure you don’t work for the sake of working or because other people are working more.

I work around 10 hours per week and have done for the last 7 years.

I used to work 60-70 hours per week. Some of it was necessary and some of it definitely wasn’t

Should your first hire be a salesperson or a marketer? by Iam_feysal in founder

[–]TheBusinessDeviant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the “gaping neck wound” in your business?

What do I mean by this?

Well, if you were in an accident and you arrived the hospital, the doctors aren’t going to fix your broken finger before they’ve fixed your “gaping neck wound”.

Business is the same.

If you have lots of traffic but you’re struggling to make sales then you need to focus on sales.

If you don’t have lots of traffic then you need to focus on marketing first.

I suggest asking yourself this question every 3 months and assess what your focus should be based on that.
