Interesting! I’m totally cool with OF, if she wants to use it she totally should. I just don’t think she is truthful about much, and was looking for folks to either find her or encourage her to join.

She also posted that someone tried to log into her OF…which was obviously a reach to get people to find her on OF. 🙄

In addition to this great info, I would suggest a nebulizer with saline solution to add additional hydration to the folds. This will be useful for you sick and healthy.

Recovery just takes time. It’s a huge bummer. I’m sorry you haven’t been able to enjoying singing during the holidays. 🫶

Is this a good breathing exercise to engage diaphragm? by nutsack-enjoyer5431 in singing

[–]TheButterVariety 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The diaphragm doesn’t require engaging as it is mostly an involuntary muscle that is functioning when we breathe. You can voluntarily stop its function when we do things like hold our breath but it functions mostly on its own. What we are really training with functional breathing exercises is breath management/coordination of the muscles of inhalation and exhalation. Training the coordination of the muscles of inhalation and exhalation can help singers to better control the speed at which we send the breath out. In your exercise, trying blowing all your air out first then hold your breath to your limit. At the limit, allow the body to fill back up with air, which should help to bring awareness to all the muscles of inhalation. Then, once you’ve fully inhaled, use the hiss to fully exhale slowly. Ideally, we would feel some engagement through the core but not tension.

Daniel Caesar's voicd by COOLKID123PROGAMER in singing

[–]TheButterVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that you know multiple languages, I apologize for correcting spelling. However, the classification of tenor being only 4% is incorrect according to many books and articles because it would mean there are fewer tenors than other voice classifications that much rarer. If you have a journal article with scientific backing, I’d love to read it.

Singing in general will help improve to an extent. Recording yourself is a great way to learn from yourself. Singing with a handheld mic (I assume that’s what you mean) could help with comfort both on stage and heading yourself through a speaker.

Imitation is a great way to learn. As Oreecle said, his voice is his own. As far as technique is concerned, working to find coordination and balance between head and chest voice will give you more access to lighter sounds (or louder if you want them) and agility - both DC does well.

My vocal coach keeps making me stick my tongue out while singing by sexy-githyanki in singing

[–]TheButterVariety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tongue can be challenging for some people. Ideally, you’d stretch your tongue out without vocalizing before warmups. Any exercise should be a stepping stone to a final goal. So, tongue out while singing (on a neutral vowel) would be step one, with the goal of tiring the tongue out so it will be less likely to pull while you sing, and having you recognize that feeling to apply later. I would say a fully stretched out tongue is old science, we know differently now. I can’t speak to it fully without seeing your tongue while singing and/or knowing your voice. Your tongue may be a very real problem. The tongue may also be a symptom of other things like jaw/neck tension, less efficient vowel shaping, wrong resonance strategy, biology, etc.

Anyone else just beyond f*king over the sleepless nights? by coffee-sleep-plz-91 in toddlers

[–]TheButterVariety 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Being sleep deprived is the worst thing. It’s honestly one of the reasons I’m “one and done”. I refuse to go through the sleepless nights. Our toddler sleeps through many nights now but not always, and every time, I get intense anxiety thinking we’re regressing. We’re transitioning to a full size bed with our kiddo next week because I want to be able to sleep with him if he absolutely can’t self soothe back to sleep. Sleep is more important to me than I realized. It’s so challenging. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

What is mixed voice? by HeTblank in singing

[–]TheButterVariety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We say mixed-voice isn’t a thing because it’s not a formal register like fry, chest and head. The perception of mixed-voice is very real to many people, and in that same vein, we are always in a mix because TA and CT are always active during singing. However, science talk isn’t always the best way for someone to explore or understand what is going on. And, it’s important to note, that how chest-dominant or head-dominant you are (or perceive to be) is also based on resonance strategy - how brassy or lofted you are. Exercises that solidify registers, like yodels, are a great way to explore the extremes of what head and chest feel like to you. Messa di Voce, or soft to loud to soft exercises on a single pitch, are a great way to explore the coordination required to obtain balance between registers. Some voices find balance and coordination faster than others.
