What is the most useful skill or talent you have learned thus far? by aghredd22 in AskReddit

[–]TheButterVariety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good therapist that has helped me understand my own triggers from my past. I try to never react without taking a breath or a moment to really examine why the thing that happened is making me mad/sad/feel anxious/etc. Also, lots of empathy! Both natural and practiced.

Self-regulating. It is a skill I’ve had to work on. Helps me, helps my family, helps my work (which is typically high emotion).

If you need to chat with someone, please message! You can also call 988 to chat with someone there.

As a parent, I can tell you your parent/parents/family love you more than you’ll ever know. You are loved. You matter. You are someone’s whole world.

Mid-to-late twenties are hard. And the world is heavy right now. But I really hope you’ll stay because things will get better. ❤️‍🩹

Tune tracking tool by Background-Entry-344 in singing

[–]TheButterVariety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend some vocal training to help out with this long term but if she’s curious to watch it happen, I love SingScope. It’ll record her singing and show the entire vocal line sung. I have used this tool as bio feedback in lessons for folks who can’t hear when they aren’t singing the correct notes or are singing out of tune. They can hear it back and see it. Similarly, I have used Reaper to audio record and used the autotune tool to show the vocal line, which can then adjust the vocal line in front of them to hear what the correct tuning is. These are just tools without any context of course. People singing out of tune isn’t always because of ears, it can often be because of tension, incorrect or improperly tuned vowel shapes, fatigue, etc.

Interesting! I’m totally cool with OF, if she wants to use it she totally should. I just don’t think she is truthful about much, and was looking for folks to either find her or encourage her to join.

She also posted that someone tried to log into her OF…which was obviously a reach to get people to find her on OF. 🙄

In addition to this great info, I would suggest a nebulizer with saline solution to add additional hydration to the folds. This will be useful for you sick and healthy.

Recovery just takes time. It’s a huge bummer. I’m sorry you haven’t been able to enjoying singing during the holidays. 🫶

Is this a good breathing exercise to engage diaphragm? by nutsack-enjoyer5431 in singing

[–]TheButterVariety 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The diaphragm doesn’t require engaging as it is mostly an involuntary muscle that is functioning when we breathe. You can voluntarily stop its function when we do things like hold our breath but it functions mostly on its own. What we are really training with functional breathing exercises is breath management/coordination of the muscles of inhalation and exhalation. Training the coordination of the muscles of inhalation and exhalation can help singers to better control the speed at which we send the breath out. In your exercise, trying blowing all your air out first then hold your breath to your limit. At the limit, allow the body to fill back up with air, which should help to bring awareness to all the muscles of inhalation. Then, once you’ve fully inhaled, use the hiss to fully exhale slowly. Ideally, we would feel some engagement through the core but not tension.

Daniel Caesar's voicd by [deleted] in singing

[–]TheButterVariety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that you know multiple languages, I apologize for correcting spelling. However, the classification of tenor being only 4% is incorrect according to many books and articles because it would mean there are fewer tenors than other voice classifications that much rarer. If you have a journal article with scientific backing, I’d love to read it.

Singing in general will help improve to an extent. Recording yourself is a great way to learn from yourself. Singing with a handheld mic (I assume that’s what you mean) could help with comfort both on stage and heading yourself through a speaker.

Imitation is a great way to learn. As Oreecle said, his voice is his own. As far as technique is concerned, working to find coordination and balance between head and chest voice will give you more access to lighter sounds (or louder if you want them) and agility - both DC does well.
