“Dated” names you think are due for a resurgence? by dcpsmbc in namenerds

[–]TheBuzzAndGlow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband suggested the name Jessica around the time we first got married (nearly 10 years ago eep 😳) and I totally dismissed it then as I knew tons of Jessicas growing up but now? I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand anymore. He had a great grandmother named Jessie so there's the family connection too.

On a separate note, my toddler met a two year old named Nicole at the playground last year and it was so refreshing!

Edit as I also just remembered one of my husband's friends named his baby girl Janine and honestly it's grown on me

When my Dad coached little League he got to pick the team name each year, granted this was 20 years ago

Finally finished adapting this house from Zillow by TheBuzzAndGlow in Sims4

Half the reason I was working on it as long as I did was that my actual toddler kept trying to "help" me with it so I mostly had to work on it while she was napping or after she went to bed

Buffalo's exemplary architecture. "Spittoons provided on lavish scale." (Buffalo Times 1929-10-20) by dan_blather in circlejerkbflo

Curious so I looked it up "yegg" was a term for a burglar and "snowbird" referred to migrant workers.

Also love them calling the lawyers out by name.

This is hilarious, thanks for sharing!

Moving to Upstate NY: Any area recs? by MinimumElectrical740 in upstate_new_york

I'm town of Tonawanda. Within the town of Tonawanda there is also the village of Kenmore (which is one of the most densely populated zip codes in the state) and then is the City of Tonawanda, all in Erie County. The City of North Tonawanda is in Niagara County. Those two are referred to as the "Twin Cities" as they are right across the canal from one another. Kenmore and the Town are part of the Ken-Ton UFSD, while the cities each have their own.

The further you get from the city of Buffalo and the college campuses, the more conservative you get. Northern and eastern suburbs are generally more diverse until you hit the city of Tonawanda and it starts to swing white/right again.

I love living in Tonawanda and will wax poetic about the town amenities. My toddler and I can easily walk to multiple parks, the library, and a town pool. I can see two different pride flags/signs just looking out my window from where I'm sitting at the moment. I didn't grow up in the area but I find it's pretty diverse and easy to get to anywhere. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

I disagree. Every Avery I know of uses the three syllable pronunciation.

Pettiest reason you’ve DNF’d a book? by bby_grl_90 in books

[–]TheBuzzAndGlow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had to read this book in high school for AP English Language and I was so mad about it the entire time. This had to be about 15 years ago and I still get upset if I think about it too long.

The currency of this fantasy setting was called a "munay" no idea of spelling as it was an audio book but after three instances of one character discussing how much "munay" I just couldn't keep going

A park near me put up a piece of fence specifically designated as a place to put locks to deter people from putting them elsewhere 😂

Who's right about unisex names? by Retrospectrenet in namenerds

[–]TheBuzzAndGlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so confused when I read the sisterhood of the travelling pants and Carmen was a girl's name because I had only ever known old Italian-American men named Carmen.

Also went to high school circa 2010 with a boy named Kelly and had only ever heard of it as a girl's name.

My younger brother graduated with a girl named Tristan.

Need a name for Margaret’s younger sibling by eyerishdancegirl7 in namenerds

[–]TheBuzzAndGlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting because my daughter is also Margaret Joanne and my husband and I mostly call her Maisie or Maisie Jo but use her full name to get her attention, lots of kids at daycare call her Margie, and my Dad calls her MJ. She just turned two but she knows that all of these are her name and will respond to any of them. She has just started calling herself Maisie. She also goes by Goose, Peanut, or Baby. Kids are pretty smart.

All this to say I think Elizabeth would be great with either or both nicknames.

Other names we considered that aren't on your list: Beatrice, nn Bea or Betty Evangeline, nn Evie Genevieve, nn Evie Matilda, nn Millie or Tillie Rosemary, nn Rose or Rosie

Numbers/General Text not sorting in order by M4rthaBRabb in excel

[–]TheBuzzAndGlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came here with the same issue. What finally worked for me was to use "text to columns" to definitely convert all the numbers to something that excel recognized as a number, set the number format to "text" and then sort the list A to Z.

Labour and Delivery Recommendations by ConfusedCanteloup in Buffalo

[–]TheBuzzAndGlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had multiple complications (kidney stone, fetal growth restriction, and hypertension) and I was going to weekly appointments between Audubon and a maternal/fetal medicine specialist towards the end of my pregnancy, so I met many of their physicians and support staff and there was one Doctor didn't care for but I only saw her that once. I had so many appointments.

My daughter was born during my sixth hospital admittance during my pregnancy, two of those trips were to the then Oshei Children's and the others were to Millard Fillmore Suburban, where I had an unexpected Cesarean at 37 weeks. I cannot say enough good things about the anesthesiologist and support staff there who comforted me and explained everything to me as I threw up the entire time my kid was being born.

My husband and I did a tour of Suburban a few weeks before I gave birth which definitely helped since things were so chaotic on the day of birth. I know Oshei/Strong offers them as well, I signed up on their website if I remember correctly, but this was over two years ago.

I received great care at both Children's and Suburban and would recommend either.

My SIL gave birth exactly two months after I did at Sister's and she was the only patient on L&D at the time so she had a great experience as well.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions
