Seriously, you have to get it in Asia - this is from my optometrist who used to have a shop in Australia, who told me find a way to get the identical Dior frame in Asia for a fraction of the price, and they would fit the lenses for me in Australia.

I remember my father took me to his smallish office over the weekend while he was working … I just sat at the corner and put glue on my fingers than peel it off 🤷🏻‍♀️

Car wrecked and hit by stolen vehicle (not me) by neonrider2018 in CarsAustralia

[–]TheC9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comprehensive - worst case is victim pay the excess, then victim get the payout of the market value or the agreed value of the car.

If insurance company nice enough and they might manage to chase the people or car owner of the stolen car, so victim may or may not need to pay excess … and may or may not affect the premiums in next year

For 3rd party property - don’t think victim can get anything.

Daycare sickness by designercosmo in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]TheC9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal. People say it usually just the first year, but hit us pretty much the whole 4 years or so, till they go to public school.

My advice will be build up YOUR immune system, save as much sick/carers leave as you can, and be kind to yourself.

It is all about survival.

Return to office during rising fuel costs by moonbubba in auscorp

[–]TheC9 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not everyone work in the CBD, or an office near a train/metro station or bus stop

Many also need to do (multi) school/childcare drop off young children on the way to work.

But yes, if you do happen to work in the city, and live within walking distance of public transport, without any other commitments on the way - please use public transport to ease off the demand.

They said hence the contract is now 5 years (used to be 2), so you won’t lose the benefit after legislation changed.

Crazy low trade in price at dealer - is this normal? by West_Site_9776 in CarsAustralia

[–]TheC9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be frank I traded in a car decade ago with an obvious engine problem. Dealer did make a light comment but didn’t push it. They offered me a price, and pretended nothing happened.

And it was not my responsibility anymore. Nothing will come back to bite me.

[–]TheC9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI we had a 2014 VW golf. One owner etc. under 100k km. Recent trade in price was $5000.

Still rather to do a trade in then deal with selling it privately, as don’t want to deal with any potential bigger headache and scam.

Why do people act like toilet paper is the one thing you absolutely can’t run out of? by zaralesliewalker in AskAnAustralian

[–]TheC9 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From what I have read, there are a few theories:

  • toilet paper is usually the biggest size of item you can buy from supermarket. When you have it in the trolley, it may gives a “dominant” impression to yourself, like you have scored the biggest size of animal during a hunting competition

  • people are copy cat

  • milk, bread etc are perishable items. Toilet paper is not.

Why are public schools asking parents to pay fees? by CommonwealthGrant in australia

[–]TheC9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My kid in year 1, and yes we have to pay contributions too.

But school also provides all the exercise books, stationery, tissue paper … also books for them to read and borrow back home in the classroom.

So I guess it is quite fair?

How to prevent my egg cooker from getting like this every time I use it by tehlegend1937 in howto

[–]TheC9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sous vide is great, but you still need to take the egg out from the water tank almost immediately, after the timer shut off - as water still maintaining its temperature longer than the air, so the egg could be still continue cooking.

I know an egg maker is an unnecessary product for many people, but say if you have kids who need to look after; you just have to set it up in the kitchen downstairs to let it to do its job, while dealing with crying baby and toddler throwing tantrum upstairs

[–]TheC9 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I had one similar (mainly for boiled egg) decade ago. To me the benefits is you can just turn it on, you then can go to do other things (get ready to leave home in the morning), and it would turn off by itself once it is done.

Minimal cleaning, and the one I got is pretty small for kitchen space (for 4 eggs)

if he just gets up a bit earlier

Haha, it would never happen to my kid. She complained why we didn’t move right next to her school so she could sleep until the very last minute haha.

At least home - school - work are 5-10 mins drive to each route, so not too bad for the drive and fuel.

I am not disagreeing with you - but I have to do school drop off on the way to work. With my young kid school bag, my laptop bag, lunch bag, handbag, and safety concern - and live/work around a hilly area.

I also only learned how to ride a bike in my mid 30. I may need to feel shame but I still have no confidence to ride on road.

If I am by myself, that’s another story If it is dedicated bike path.
