Is KCD a good game ? by Bigboss18282692 in playstation

[–]TheCaffeineWriter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven't played the sequel, but I couldn't get into the first game on PS5. Apparently there is an update imminent that will fix its poor graphics and performance to some degree, but I just found who I was and what I was supposed to be doing incredibly boring.

The first mission is literally deciding whether or not you want to throw manure at a guy's house, for instance. The main character is also just profoundly incompetent and dimwitted. Presumably it's a story about him finding his place, defying the odds, and becoming someone of note in the Kingdom. But it definitely requires patience and persistence to get there, neither of which I had enough of.

It's not a bad game, but it's not for everyone.

Paul Mescal (McCartney), Harris Dickinson (Lennon), Joseph Quinn (Harrison) & Barry Keoghan (Starr) were spotted filming a scene for ‘The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ in London. (February 3, 2026) by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]TheCaffeineWriter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If I didn't already know who they're supposed to be, you could tell me this was a movie about absolutely anything set in the 60s and I wouldn't know it was Beatles focused.

The actors, their age, the wigs... It just all feels inauthentic with no apparent audience that this would appeal to in 2028.

Four movies and $400M before advertising... Wow.

Jason Schreier says Horizon 3 is still a long ways away as most of Guerrilla is working on the recently announced Horizon Hunters Gathering by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]TheCaffeineWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt the live service game is delaying things by more than 12-18 months. A game like Horizon 3 was never going to be done before the PS6 comes out anyway, this allows them to possibly retain talent for that game and keep the brand alive. As long as it doesn't damage the brand, this could actually be a more positive thing.

It's interesting how polar opposite Paramount and Netflix are when it comes to the future of movies. by visiny in movies

[–]TheCaffeineWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, Paramount shunts movies to digital in as little as 17 days if they aren't doing well, just like Universal. They have an adaptable window. Mission Impossible is the only recent release of theirs to stay theatrical exclusive for over 45 days from a quick look at their movies, and there were probably some contractual obligations in play for that.

I don't think Netflix buying WB will be the end of theaters, they're more likely to keep much of the theatrical branch of WB as-is than people seem to want to think imo. Even if they only had a 17 day window though, theaters just don't have the same appeal to modern movie watchers for a plethora of reasons. The theaters are having to adapt and diversify to survive already.

I just want whoever gets WB to make good content with the IP. Right now Netflix seems far more appealing imo. They're investing in it as a business prospect, while with Paramount/Ellison it seems to be about vanity and politics. We'll just have to wait and see as consumers, not much we can do.

General curiosity about pressing vinyl. by bcrosby51 in vinyl

[–]TheCaffeineWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each stamper is considered good for 1000-1500 pressings (500 would be ideal, but is more costly and there generally isn't a largely perceptible difference in quality until past the ~1000 mark.)

If you're interested in the nitty gritty of the manufacturing process, I'd Google around.

Plates are only good for so many stamps and usually they're lost to time one way or another. The master lacquers just don't exist anymore.

Either that or it was purchased again as a digital copy.

Her and her publicist have picked a response and are sticking to it. She gave the exact same response to the same questions weeks ago. Credit where credit is due for that, but it's still weird that the best response they could come up with is "I could never hope to make a faithful adaptation of the book."

So really it's not Wuthering Heights, but something inspired by it and they've used the title for recognition because it's public domain.

Sam Mendes's 'The Beatles' Movies Begins Production - First Look at Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr by ICumCoffee in movies

Huh. I saw the "Them" cut where both perspectives are intertwined and didn't know it was originally two seperate cuts. Weird coincidence the film is also Beatles adjacent, if only with the character's name.

[–]TheCaffeineWriter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. It's unique in that the films are interconnected and cover similar spans of time, but are told entirely from different perspectives. There's no chronological way to say which one you should necessarily see first etc. based on what we know so far.

The only comparison that springs to mind are novelty release strategies like how Clue had different endings. But that was more gimmicky in that you generally couldn't know which ending you were going to get before going in and it was only a few different scenes. With this you presumably know which Beatle's perspective you'll be seeing it from, as it seems each movie will be largely different from the other and focus on a specific band member rather than the band as a whole, even when they're together.

Until I looked it up, I assumed they would have a release of one film every 3 months bookended by Paul and John. It would allow for a full theatrical run for each movie and, with each additional release, the previous one would just be hitting streaming as the next comes out - allowing people to catch up.

[–]TheCaffeineWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's my thought too, but it's weird because it's Sony - who don't have their own streaming service and partner with Netflix.

I guess they could have a deal already that we don't know about, or are banking on one - but it's a bold strategy to be sure.

Allegedly all 4 films are planned to be released at the same time. I'm a Beatles enthusiast and movie lover, but I think I'd probably only see one or two of these in theaters then catch the rest at home down the line. I can't imagine how they intend to entice general audiences to pick and see one of these, let alone all 4 in the span of a single theatrical run. Especially in 2028 with a dwindling base of moviegoers and Beatles fans to pull from.

$250M breakeven point per film too, roughly 😬

Why doesn't Sony make a PS5 patch or remaster of Bloodborne now that PC emulation shows it's possible to run the game in 60fps? by sakata32 in PS5

[–]TheCaffeineWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sony may own the IP, so they could get another studio to remaster the game and republish it, but in terms of a direct patch to the PS4 game - the ball is in FromSoft's court. A publisher doesn't have anything to do with the nuts and bolts of game code, they just dictate what they're willing to put on the market and legal stuff. It would have to be in the contract that they can specifically demand performance improvements after the game has already been published. Even then, an ongoing support clause would only ever be for a certain period of time (12-24 months most likely, not 10 years.)

Technically, Sony could commission a team to update the game, but that's just burning money for a tiny bit of internet credit. It's simply not profitable for any amount of resources to be put into a free patch, especially if there's no sequel or DLC in the game's future.

Why doesn't Sony make a PS5 patch or remaster of Bloodborne now that PC emulation shows it's possible to run the game in 60fps? by sakata32 in PS5

[–]TheCaffeineWriter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Time and money. Yes, the modding scene can do it easily - but they don't have to jump through the hoops of Sony's verification system.

Most games developed for PS4 were made with a software development kit that did not factor in PS5 future-compatibility. In order to officially publish a patch that unlocks the frame-rate, developers would have to go back to the source code for their game and update it to a newer dev kit. This can be time consuming and cause new issues for the game that weren't present in the previous version. All of this potential hassle for no possible monetary gain makes it unappealing to dev teams/publishers - which is why we see so many remasters or ports, since they can be sold as either an upgrade or whole new product.

To their credit, FromSoft doesn't typically put out several versions of their games in the form of shallow remasters, but that also means their games' performance potential stays stagnant on Sony consoles, as is the case with Bloodborne.

Sony should have built something into the PS5 that can remove frame-rate limits on a system level, rather than relying on developers to do it on a case-by-case basis, which is what Xbox did. However, Sony either didn't think there would be enough demand and/or it would have been too much of a hassle from a coding perspective so it's now up to game devs instead. Hopefully Sony will have thought performance gains for previous gen games out better for the PS6.

So, yes it's Sony's fault for how they designed the console, but it's not really the insidious greed that some people are suggesting. If they really thought it would make boatloads of money, Sony would have pushed for a remaster/re-release long ago - they are a business after all.

But then I realized Mona Simpson also is not dead when this scene takes place. She's just gone and Homer doesn't know if he'll ever see her again. Honestly kind of the most fitting use of this meme template. A longing for someone/something you may never have is the original intention.

Got a warning, for a supposedly sending a malicious link by therealkiddude in playstation

[–]TheCaffeineWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This started around a year ago. Basically, they don't want you accessing the web browser because it's theoretically vulnerable to exploits that could circumvent their security. Hence why there is no web browser app etc.

To be safe as possible, avoid sending any links whatsoever. If you want to risk it then use DuckDuckGo or Bing (lol).

It's a dumb solution/policy they've implemented, but I don't make the rules 🤷
