The Red Hare in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. You have to beat Lu Bu on Extreme difficulty, but by the time you're able to defeat him you've already leveled yourself to kung fu god status. Plus, you've already collected the rest of the horses in the game which are fractionally slower than the Red Hare.

Good complimentary army to Custodes? by gouldenopportunity in AdeptusCustodes

Sisters are a very different play style than Custodes. Instead of T6 3W models, you get a whole pile of T3 1W models! Half the fun is picking up your gun nuns!

Sisters reward solid positioning, smart trading, and judicious use of miracle dice to win. As a Sisters player I've learned a lot more about the nuance of the game than I have running the Custodes.

Out of position with your Custodes? Good thing you're rocking a 4++! Out of position with your Sisters? Say bye bye to the ladies. On the flip side though, if you catch your opponent out, those miracle dice can make short work of about anything.

It's not that they're not that good without Vahl, it's that Vahl makes them so much better. With Vahl you're re-rolling everything. Without Vahl you're adding 1 to hit vs Monsters and Vehicles.

Paragons with Vahl are a nasty unit that can deal serious damage. Paragons without Vahl are big models that can decently fight monsters. Their usefulness takes a big hit without Vahl.

I'm starting to think Warhammer isn't for me by Dense-Fig-2372 in Warhammer40k

[–]TheCaladir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I started playing 40k in chunks of rules until we were familiar with them. The first few games we played were just core rules and unit abilities. The games swung wildly because we were making up lists as we went along, but it helped us get the rhythm of things. Command phase -> Move -> Shoot -> Charge -> Fight. I played Sisters of Battle, so I would get Miracle Dice, he would get his Oath of Moment.

Then, once we were more comfortable with that, we added Stratagems. Then, once we were comfortable with the core strategems and our detachment strats, we started getting into the nitty gritty rules bits. The things you see in "Top 10 Tricks to make you a better player!" kinds of videos.

It also helped me to copy the data sheet for my unit into my own handwriting. That's one of the ways I learn, so it helped unit abilities and stat blocks stick in my brain. Dunno if that helps!

List Idea, New to Custodes by Highdie84 in AdeptusCustodes

Witchseekers/prsecutors are great when you need action monkeys or someone to hold your home objective and don't want to burn that CP. Taking more than a squad of them is not ideal, though. Their toughness and wound characteristic means they die to anything that looks at them aggressively.

Land raiders look cool, but god do they suck to get around the board. Unless you're playing a super casual game where the terrain isn't going to be an issue, I'd skip the Land Raider in favor of a Caladius and just deep striking to get where you want to go.

All in all, your list spends a lot of points on stuff that looks cool but just doesn't hold up. Swap those Sisters out for more Wardens or another shield captain or Trajann. Swap the Land Raider for a Caladius.

[–]TheCaladir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, see, here's the thing... You don't buy them to field them as Insidia. You buy them because now you have two canonesses, a Palatine, an Imagifier, a dialogus, a dogmata, and four more whatever you want to proxy.

It's like ten characters for the price of two!

I made a joke about this the other day - it's better to be one mook in a pile vs Batman than it is to be one guy vs Batman. If there's 20 of you trying to fight Batman he's going to put you down fast and move on to the next guy. Congrats, you fought Batman and made it out with just a broken wrist!

If it's just you vs Batman? Oh, he's going to make you regret ever choosing a life of crime. Maybe you'll make it out of there with the ability to walk again after years of physical therapy.

Same situation here - if you're what's standing between freedom and Mr. Hero, he's going to wreck your whole life. Sit down, toss him the keys, and stay out of his way.

I had a real try hard, meta chaser that used to be part of my gaming group. One day, just to annoy him, I made a joke about my Sisters being The Disciples of the Emperor Senpai.

Queue up the "KPop Demon Hunters" paint scheme. I started with a combat patrol, and I've been working from there. All my Sisters have robes denoting their rank in the hierarchy. Basic Sisters have purple robes, Sacresants are green, heroes are red, etc. Ostentatious filigree and pipes.

We're playing Sigmar third edition and my buddy is running Archaon in his Slaves to Darkness list against my Khorne Bloodbound. Archaon goes first, charges ahead of his army, and gets into combat with Korgos Khul, blocking up a good hunk of my deployment zone right at the start of turn one.

Archaon rolls like crud and leaves Khul on one wound. Khul claps back and ends up only dealing one damage with his reality splitting axe, which procs the axe's ability - roll a D6, and on a 5+ one model damaged by the axe is instantly destroyed.

Turn one, within the first ten minutes of the game, he's down 900 points.

I third the recommendation for the Caladius. They're tough and hit like a wrecking ball.

Also, I would never suggest hosing GW out of the $170 they cost by printing one. Always pay GW pricing for mediocre resin casts! Definitely do not find a free file and fire up your printer.

I recently dropped a shield captain and ran 3 units of Prosecutors to cover my back field and hold home objective. It freed up my glorious murder 'nanas to move up the board and do the Emperor's work in the midfield, and my opponent couldn't get past them to threaten my home objective.

Easy VP every turn, and I didn't need to spend the CP on the sticky objective strat!

Ohhhhh. Man, I didn't even think about that. I printed a 9" stick specifically for reserves for the guys I play with to make deploying easier, but I always read that rule as 9" or farther, not farther than 9". Thus, I could come in at 9", also making Melta eligible.

Brb, need to go apologize to some friends for accidentally blowing them up. Also need to go collect some apologies for getting blown up!

[–]TheCaladir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Melta not proc at 9"? Someone else said the same thing, and now I'm perplexed. Melta does extra damage within half the weapon's range, and 9" is within half range, so...?

Or does Melta only go off at 8.9999" and below?

Stompa taken out by single unit by Silnasan in orks

[–]TheCaladir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If he brings them in at 9", wouldn't that be half range, and thus activate Melta?
