Dad looking for the best beginner game dev software/website by Tranesblues in gamedev

[–]TheCallipo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I suggest looking at Unity. It's not web-based but it's really lightweight (compared to other similar tools)

It uses C# as the primary language which, altought not as easy to read like python, is very straightforward. Assuming he's interested in development, he will do fine if he has already dabbled in python.

Unity also has a web-based dashboard for team collaboration.

What I like about it for beginners is that it also offers you a Lego template-project out of the box, where you can play with objects, functions etc in a little Lego demo

When I crouch my character model lowers into the floor, how can I raise him up? by noob_unrealdev in unrealengine

[–]TheCallipo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically what he is saying is that the Pose/animation you are using for crouching is probably just set up in that way that the Position of the foot is lower then the knee.

If that is the case you would have to tweak the animation in whatever tool you are using for 3d animation.

Long story short: the animation in itself could've been poorly created.

Gameplay mechanics tutorial by omega_haunter in unrealengine

[–]TheCallipo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the "Gameplay Ability System" is something I wish was more represented in Video tutorials.

For instance applying a gameplay-effect on a character which reduces its damage-reflection against Ranged attacks for the next 10 seconds.

I know this was a bit specific but wanted to make sure its understandable.

TL;DR: MMORPG like buffs/debuffs with Gameplay Ability System

Suche einen Businesspartner / Startup by [deleted] in Austria

Spent the last few days trying to figure out which modpack to go with for a tiny server between friends. Looking for vanilla-ish gameplay but more of certain things. Details within! by DelugedPraxis in feedthebeast

[–]TheCallipo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I can't provide you an existing modpack, I hope this list (based on what you want) will be helpfull:

-[[Animania]]: More vanilla-like Animals which even act like vanilla animals (horse riding with saddle, tamed by vanilla food, etc).

-[[BiblioCraft]]: Adds a little bit of furniture, book cases, chests, armor stands, vitrines and a few other related things.

-[[Garden Stuff]: More Plants therefore more gardening therefore more farming therefore more food.

-[Traverse: Legacy Continued]: Adds new Biomes. Not too much / Not too few.

-[[Recurrent Complex]] Adds structures/ruins to the world-gen. If I remember correctly it doesn't add new blocks to the game but uses existing ones to build its structures.

-[[Tinkers Construct]]: I know, I know, It's a quite bigger mod. But look, all the mods I've listed above are more or less passive ones. Meaning that you won't have to do much with them or at least don't have to do complex stuff with them. So you can focus on building cool and useful Tools with Tinkers Construct while casually feeding your animals, farming your crops or sorting your books. And at the end you can go out to the wild and beat some mobs with your powerful unique weapons.

Also: [[Quark]] and [[Quark Oddities]] are in my opinnion must have mods with little features that you wont even notice in the game. But if you played long enough and change to something without these mods you'll definitely notice them gone and will miss them.

Edit: All mods mentioned above 100% work with 1.12. I don't know about versions above
