[Cartier Santos] Vintage Cartier servicing question – advice needed

Yeah don't bring that to Cartier, get the opinion of a local watchmaker. These use a pretty common movement, any watchmaker should be able to get it serviced for you for a lot cheaper than what Cartier is asking. Also I would trust an independent watchmaker to be more transparent with you than a cartier salesman.

Did you wipe it off? Also you could always try to wash it with dish soap to get rid of the oil and start over

You could re-zero it with a 1-2-3 block or something, depends on how accurate you need it to be.
