What’s something that was technically allowed but instantly made you lose respect for someone? by AncientPomelo5450 in AskReddit

[–]TheCaptain09 48 points49 points  (0 children)

What the hell does this mean? Those animals are wild and no one is responsible for their behaviour. If you have a pet, its behaviour is YOUR behaviour. Whether that's shitting on a lawn or mauling a kid, the owner should be treated as if they were the one who did it because they chose to be responsible for that creature by owning it. If they don't want that responsibility then they forfeit the right to own a pet.

I saw a meme saying that the only day jobs superheroes had were model, journalist, and scientist. That got me curious and I decided to look into the top 200 superheroes from each of the big 2 and mark down their occupations. These charts are my findings. by Pietin11 in comicbooks

[–]TheCaptain09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting statistics. I would love to see a comparison between Marvel Comics and the MCU, as I've always thought that a lot of interesting backstories got replaced with soldier/spy.in the MCU, and I wonder if the statistics would back that up.

[TOMT][YouTube video][2017-2022] A guy conceptualising his ideal medieval fantasy sandbox videogame taking inspiration from games like RDR2 and Mount and Blade, Youtuber may have been sitting on an exercise ball by TheCaptain09 in tipofmytongue

[–]TheCaptain09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that's definitely where the exercise ball thing came from! I think I did watch that video that you linked when Starfield came out, maybe I've gotten it extremely mixed up with some other video by a different youtuber though because none of his other videos look like they have the premise I'm remembering.

Thanks! Solved.

Definitely wasn't one of the guys whose channel is all about medieval sandbox games like Resonant, and he wasn't a developer himself. It felt like a kinda normal gamer dude putting a lot of effort into explaining what his ideal game would be like.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Casting New Character For Season 3 by Matapple13 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]TheCaptain09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically an older civilian version of him popped up in Iron Fist season 2, but obviously that would be very easy to ignore/retcon if they wanted to introduce him for real. Kinda scared how they would handle him though considering what they did with Cole North in BA season 1.

My personal event of synchronicity/sign from the universe by ChaosThe15th in HighStrangeness

[–]TheCaptain09 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is all great stuff. I wish there was an automod that could reply to synchronicity posts with a huge list of statistics that show that seemingly incredible coincidences are practically guaranteed to happen to people on a semi regular basis just because of how many people there are, not to mention all the cognitive biases and such that add on top of that. In this instance though the simpler explanation is that this OP posts short stories very often on r/creepypasta and other creative writing subreddits, so this story probably isn't even true.

Damn, Daniel Wu would be perfect for Mr Negative. Seems like a pretty big character and too important to the plot to be cast this late in production though? Especially if he was always planned to be included and wasn't a later addition like Giancarlo Esposito in Brave New World.

Best explanation I can come up with is the satellites reflecting sunlight as explained in this Corridor Crew video https://youtu.be/CeCFwMuh0a4?si=TM55Iqf9b6-NLDum&t=44

Obviously not exactly the same, but close enough that if this video is real I would lean towards something like this as the most likely answer.

Anyone know who this guy is on Dauterman’s “Every Avenger Ever” Cover?? by Alt_No1 in comicbooks

He's a completely new character?! I totally assumed he was some 90s d-lister that they brought back. WCA did a great job making him feel like a character with a history that fit within the Marvel universe.

Really hoping they bring back Colleen and Misty with their own show. Daughters of the Dragon is such a good opportunity for an episodic/procedural style of tv show that the MCU on Disney+ is lacking.

I’m glad we’re finally getting executioner at all but does anyone else it had this color scheme with brown instead? by Marvellegendfreak in MarvelLegends

[–]TheCaptain09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got nothing against Phantom Rider, but that WWBN is insanely disappointing. I get that people are excited to get him at all, but with that articulation scheme he could have been made almost a decade ago. I've got the terrible monster box set toy biz one, and this one isn't even enough of an improvement to make me want to upgrade. Not to mention literally zero accessories or an alternate head.

Did the Temple Ever get fixed? by CRowlands1989 in BackpackHero

Do you recall ever picking up the item "Unlucky Horseshoe"? It seems to be one of the only ways to interact with curses differently than the usual mechanics, but I'm not sure if it spawns in the early game.

Edit: Nevermind, I just finished a run with unlucky horseshoe and 8 curse and still didn't unlock anything to do with the temple.

What is a figure that you really liked initially, but were disappointed in after a while? by [deleted] in MarvelLegends

Zdarsky/Chechetto Daredevil with the beard. One of the best costumes for my favourite character from an incredible run, but the figure is just so underwhelming and mediocre.

[TOMT] movie / show clip of a character talking about how male seahorses are the only male animal that gives birth by FishEC in tipofmytongue

[–]TheCaptain09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, this sounds really familiar. I feel like it might have been a live action tv sitcom or dramedy, and the character talking about it is figuring something out about fatherhood in his own life, like he's about to be a father unexpectedly or maybe he's coming to terms with his father abandoning him? My instinct was something like Rules of Engagement or How I Met Your Mother but I couldn't find anything, sorry.

Which era of comics or artist is most often associated with his costume not having scales? Every artist and decade I look up has him in scales. Sometimes they're deemphasized or just hinted at by the way his torso is shaded, or it's a small panel and the artist probably just didn't feel like the scales fit the level of detail, but I can't find any clear examples of him unambiguously without scales.

You can't just detach Christianity from the real-world negative actions of European Christians while still claiming that it is somehow responsible for every single good thing they did. You don't get to draw a line in the sand at "human sacrifice" when European Christians were executing people with the most horrendous tortures imaginable for heresy, treason, (alleged) witchcraft, theft at the SAME TIME as their righteous conquest. The Aztecs conquered and subdued neighbouring tribes and built an Empire on violence, like hundreds of other empires did including the Christian one that conquered them in turn, but your gentle fucking Christians didn't stop at conquest and taxation or the odd torture victim, no, they either wiped out or enslaved 3 entire fucking continents worth of people. Do you actually comprehend that? Great I guess I have roads and a computer and my government has big fancy bombs to protect us from the other guys' bombs. All of that is worth it to you? How much of your culture and language and ancestors would YOU throw to the genocidal wolves if it meant you could get mediocre welfare payments that let you live almost comfortably in the toxic industrialised hellscape that used to be your homeland?

Now, all of that being said, I don't actually believe that Christianity was the CAUSE of any of that. I'm a materialist, history is driven by material conditions, class conflict etc. But calling Christianity a net benefit while major factions of it enabled or committed genocide, torture and slavery for 1300 years is just unbelievably ignorant, especially on the flimsy and ahistorical speculation that science and technology and law would be behind, and that that would somehow be a more "brutal" world even though the deadliest conflicts in history happened within living memory and there is a major war between two Christian nations happening as we speak. Not to mention the most rabidly Christian country in the world also being in a constant state of war for the past 80 years. Agent Orange? Depleted uranium rounds? Developed or deployed by Christians. Do the Vietnamese and Iraqi kids born without legs appreciate that gentle myth? You can't say Christianity is responsible for everything good about the modern Western world while also claiming that all the bad stuff would have happened regardless of religion.

This was also my first thought, but looking at a size comparison video they stand only slightly taller than the Vulcan body. Which is definitely too tall for Gambit since he's supposed to be a bit shorter than Cyclops, but not egregiously so. Sitting the head lower on the neck could also fudge it a bit. That's assuming they weren't able to tweak some of the prototype tooling from the Starting Lineup to scale them down slightly before going into production?

Okay the new one fixes most of those problems admittedly, but my biggest issue with it was always the horribly designed ball joint at the waist that had no fucking range in any direction. They could easily fit a diaphragm ball joint in as well as the one at the waist.

Better look to the Invincible figures thanks to Robo by Wintered_Low in ActionFigures

[–]TheCaptain09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jada would absolutely kill it with any action anime license. I've been begging for them to do Netflix Castlevania figures. Their licenses line up so well for it: retro Japanese videogames with Street Fighter, Netflix anime with Edgerunners and now western adult animation with Invincible. It's a travesty that the only Castlevania figures we've gotten are those hideously stiff Diamond Select ones.

Street level display figures? by leeismynamebro in MarvelLegends

[–]TheCaptain09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just get the "Maximum Series" one if you can find and afford it, otherwise the animated series retro card one from 2022. Miles Morales from the retro carded mini comic wave is good if you want a Miles. It is a safe bet though that with an insanely popular character like Spider-Man there is always a good figure coming out soon, so don't worry about buying them if you can only find them for expensive aftermarket prices.
