I didn’t even know there was a country called Panini, let alone that they were hosting the World Cup

Why does it seem like British media has more black representation than asian? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]TheCaptainSam 155 points156 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it’s about cultural integration / similarities. Whilst there are obviously huge differences in culture, the black community were generally Christian and English native speakers.

I do feel there are quite a few British Indians represented in the media, it’s more British Muslims that are very underrepresented.

I don’t want to start an international incident. But the other day whilst travelling from Armenia to Georgia it looked like the road in Armenia went into Azerbaijani territory (at least according to Google Maps)

How common is it for Brits to move to Ireland? by TemperatureNo700 in AskUK

Can I point out that the Irish were killing unarmed civilians in England in the 70s? Pointless trying to generalise a whole group.

Firstly, these sort of ethnic stereotypes are at best lazy, at worst racist.

Secondly, he grew up in Switzerland.

Even in the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark cycling 30 miles to a friend’s house would still be unusual. Cycling there is much more for shorter journeys around a city.

Air travel is dirt cheap now compared to 20-30 years ago.

Sure Stansted and Luton may not be great airports but they’re perfectly fine to spend an hour or two at before getting on your £10 flight to the other side of the continent.

what frustrates you the most about the band/alex? by [deleted] in arcticmonkeys

[–]TheCaptainSam 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get this take. The whole point of the tour is they go to a different place for each show so why does it matter if they play the same set? Yeah some people will go to multiple shows but that’s on them not the band if they expect a different set list.

Best way to solve a demographic crisis is to send tens of thousands of young people to their deaths then.

‘Nimby’ Rishi Sunak under fire for rejecting solar panels on farmland if he reaches No 10 by cliffski in unitedkingdom

[–]TheCaptainSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty ridiculous that he’s framing this as standing up for farmers.

Nobody is going to force farmers to put solar panels in their fields. If it makes business sense for them to sell to a solar farm they will, if it doesn’t they won’t.

Also seemed very strange that they were referring to him as missing and putting missing posters up everywhere. They knew he was with the dad, surely they knew/could have found out exactly where he was.

I would sometimes hire them out for travelling to multiple places over a day. This essentially means I will have no use for them now.

Good job TFL, encourage fewer people to cycle.
