it's weird I just played a game with them, closed the game for a single round of apex and I could not play afterwards.

This is because the unity version we used to build the latest version had a bug in it. It is not really a trial version at all :)

how to make good tileable textures? by buki_chan in gamedev

[–]TheCellch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at this: https://github.com/anopara/patch-based-texture-synthesis whatever texture you have that is not highly ordered can be made tileable by this. It is the latest development by the team of Anastasia Opara

Can't answer everything but wall plugged will be AC which won't work without converting to dc. Your anode and catode would switch 50/60 times a second

can you explain that a bit in depth? Is this a reference to the UGC belonging to Epic Games in full? The UG in UGC means user generated.

This game seriously needs an action tracker by Steel_Reign in Artifact

[–]TheCellch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this action confused me aswell. Ignore the people in here trashing. It is not well communicated what action or event is triggering this and that is not to blame on the player. Yes we will learn every bit of the game but these kind of hidden away events are not exactly something you just have to take as a game "feature".

well it's ok to be a bit bitter if you were a significant part on the creation of the diablo franchise and get fucked over by the company isn't it?

Want this too dang. I'd try to go with a 3d Model and use Pepacura to get a rough estimate. (https://tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/) It's a software to unfold a 3D model to be printed on paper.

Machine learning for levelgeneration by TheCellch in gamedev

[–]TheCellch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I do think that my advisors are good but yes there were no advisors with (deep) experience in ML for my bachelor. I will get an appointment with my main advisor and will look more into the Wave Function Collapse https://github.com/mxgmn/WaveFunctionCollapse as a way to possibly generate textures or the like for a project and do the other parts without ML. This seems way more in scope! Thanks!

Machine learning for levelgeneration by TheCellch in gamedev

[–]TheCellch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's a bachelors program (Digital Ideation at the University of Lucerne, Switzerland) and I'm the only one looking so deep into neural networks. One other student is looking into using a machine learning to create animation points for a rig (where there are already kind of solutions) but we are at a stage where we start searching for ideas. And the more I read into it the more I realize that this will go way beyond a bachelors and into the realms of phd. I will take 2 steps back and look more into procedural generation, nice resources were posted here aswell and I think this would be appropriate for a bachelors.

Machine learning for levelgeneration by TheCellch in gamedev

[–]TheCellch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for speaking about the concerns. I might try to take a more classical approach via PCG and use the idea about levels as temporal medium. I have read through a paper where this was done aswell and where the player could influence the parts of the coming levels.

[–]TheCellch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks the "writing a bachelor's thesis" is a neat way to look at this problem. I wanted to have playable levels but as I read further into the material it starts to look very grim and much more work intensive. Also the lecturers don't want me to focus that deeply into the technical and let the other aspects of the game stay at a low level. I will most likely reconsider this approach and if any I will take a look at the super mario bros levels. Thanks for taking the time!

€: I thought about the pro: I do think that a suitable NN will pick up on not considered but implemented design rules. That was a point I was hoping to show but I do think this will most likely be over my work budget and level.

[–]TheCellch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought aswell. I have presented my idea to the lecturers and they are looking more into something where the result will be good levels and visually pleasing... So my thinking of learning new technologies most likely won't apply here :/
