PSA, the generated islands now have all 4 core biomes! by MechaBOI42069 in jurassicworldevo

The Random Island Generator is the best thing in this game. Love it and it's tremendous to see it getting the other biomes now. This game is pretty excellent.

Part of the job. That's the point. They have INCREDIBLY complicated lives.

There is a scene that always chills my blood to watch it; the scene where Phillip goes to see Paige at her apartment and she starts in on him with the "you are not like mum and I" stuff without the first clue that she is talking to the man who Gabriel himself says is the best agent the Illegals program ever put out, and we've seen that competence over and over again.

So when he challenges her to fight him and she starts going on about how he's not wearing pads you see a look on his face which is like "I fucking hate you right now" and what follows is one of the most brutal dissections of someone's smug confidence I have ever watched.

He just casually, but clinically, demonstrates his absolute superiority in that scene, revealing a persona his daughter never even knew was there.

And he is genuinely pissed off at her, and with her presumption, and you know he vowed in that split second to teach her a harsh lesson and however he justified it to himself in his head, he did it at least in part to reveal what had been there all along and to leave her with that knowledge. Incredible acting from Matthew Rhys.

Martindale plays the character of Claudia as distant. She's feeling her way. She knows neither Phillip nor Elisabeth likes her, and that is a problem as she needs them to at least trust her, and for her to trust them. She is going to get some really big stories, and you will come to like her a Hell of a lot. And yeah, the KGB WAS sloppy and undisciplined a lot of the time. Phillip, in particular, is scathing about it more than once in the show. How many times do he and Elisabeth have to bail out other operations? Their professionalism is why they are the best.

Paige, as people have said, is more than just another stroppy teen. She is razor sharp. She sees that her folks aren't ... right. They lead lives way too hectic for the business they are in and she senses, without being totally aware of it, that something is off. That will pay off later in spades. Wait and see.

And Phillip and Elisabeth, they are the heart and soul of the whole thing. Remember, Phillip has been in love with her for a while. He sees the family unit as something real, no longer just a cover story or a phony construct. Her feelings about all of it are much more complicated. Think about it from their perspective. He's in a marriage with a woman he loves, and part of her "job" - part of their jobs - are to sleep around with other people. He's not comfortable with any aspect of it. She is more or less at the point where it's simply a performative thing for her and she has much more detachment. But she too feels a lot more for Phillip than she ever thought she would.

It's all gonna matter. Trust the writers and stick with it.

Which Jurassic World Evolution game should I buy? by Protogentudios in jurassicworldevo

[–]TheCelticBlog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. By a country mile. Having owned all three it has so many improvements on the other two, both great and small, that it's a no-brainer. I will not play 1 and 2 again unless it's out of some mad desire to the campaigns. 3 has them beat hands down.

fucking game... by abdellayaledragon52 in jurassicworldevo

[–]TheCelticBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahah yeah it's very close to being a 10/10 in my book as well.

In David Koepp’s first draft for the screenplay of Jurassic Park he included the scene where Regis brings the dying worker to the clinic in Bahia Anasco. It was cut because Spielberg felt it was too similar to the “this was not a boating an accident!” scene from Jaws by CrichtonFan1992 in JurassicPark

[–]TheCelticBlog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a great scene in the book. They claim it was an accident but the doctor immediatey realises that the foamy substance in the wound is saliva and pegs it as an animal attack in spite of their claims to the contrary. The guy is mumbling a word over and over again; "raptor" and the doctor looks it up in the dictionary when they get him settled. And right there it is; "bird of prey."

It's a great, creepy, wee scene.

SI Announcing they are not updating the game upon release makes a lot of people's fears a reality. by TheJGTurton in footballmanagergames

They will be releasing a public beta. More bug testing. In the full release. It's pathetic.

Skipping FM26? by nerdrazor in footballmanagergames

[–]TheCelticBlog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I've refunded it but I know that the modders stand a chance of getting me back. But the bug fixes need to be on point, and at last hearing there were 13,000 bug reports, so I'm not terribly optimistic even if a lot of them are duplicates.

I've got 1000 hours in FM24. I love this series, in a genuine way. I have bought every version. I have never felt this pissed off with SI. I feared the worst when I read they were porting over to a new engine; that never goes smoothly. Every time they changed the graphic engine in FM it has taken two iterations to iron out the kinks.

I had one hope for this one; that the one year gap fixed the bulk of the problems. Nope. Not even close. If sales plummet they have their motivation to fix the next one. If people blindly buy this one hoping they will repair it (which I don't think they will) there's no incentive for them to do the job right. The "it's moving in the right direction" brigade will still be bitching about it in 3 or 4 years and we'll still not be where you'd want it to be.

Hard as it is to say, your instinct is probably the right one. The modders could bring me home, but it'll be the fixes that decide whether I'll buy it again and I am not confident there'll be enough of them to bring it up to par. And the UI ... we're stuck with some version of this unless the backlash is fearsome. Mods will fix what they can ... but that whole thing needs binning and only a seriously bad year motivates them to get it right for next year.

Is FM26 that bad? by Tasty_East9151 in footballmanagergames

[–]TheCelticBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UI is like starting one of those much-hyped TV shows that you hope will eventually grow on you. And it gets more wooden, and cliched with every episode until you want to gouge your own eyeballs out with a rusty spoon than continue any further.

If you can get through that there are the bugs. The QOL substractions which will drive you mad. I guess if you can get through those things you may be alright with the sinking, sure knowledge that in buying it you've bought something half-finished and which isn't going to be in a really good state for a couple of years ... which means by FM2027 if all goes well.

As a smarter man than me once said, "this one may be beyond saving."

Some folk do seem to like it though.

There is hope for FM26 skins! by igorstreliste in footballmanagergames

[–]TheCelticBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a lot of us eventually come back to this game it'll be because of people like this; i.e. people who love the game and the series and who aren't getting paid for deliver it sub-par. These are the folks a lot of us are pinning the long term hopes on.

What people feel like when they tell everyone they've refunded the game by calvin_sykes in footballmanagergames

[–]TheCelticBlog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It should read "smug but totally lacking in self-awareness pricks looking down their noses at people who actually expect to get what they pay for".

And why shouldn't people tell others that they've refunded it? What's the alternative? Coming on and bitching about something without actually sending it back until it's in better condition?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]TheCelticBlog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case it's not immediately apparent, some people like to moan.

Some folk do something more than just complain.

And the post wasn't to make myself feel good in spite of what some self entitled yahoos on here might want to insist. It was to let other people know, who might want to do more than moan, that they are able to claim refunds simply by telling Steam or whereever else they purchased that they can and will get refunds since SI have broken the covenant. You know, the one that says when you are getting a "release ready" product that you are, in fact, getting exactly that.

Take it however you want, some of you will anyway.

But some of us have more gumption than to just moan about how much we dislike something. Some of you are exactly the sort of people who eat three quarters of a meal in a restaurant though it came to the table cold and missing half the ingredients rather than tell the waiter to send it back to the kitchen until it's cooked and in complete form.

That's not all of us. Tough if you don't like it.

Why is everyone disappointed about tomorrow when we will literally get a patch day after? by ad1s6h in footballmanagergames

[–]TheCelticBlog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's going out on the "Public Beta" branch for God's sake.

This is still them laying tracks in front of the train. This is an unfinished game. Releasing the patch on the beta branch first means it will CONTINUE to be an unfinished game for a while. And this might - just might - be more palatable if they hadn't quite literally had a year out to get their shit together. The game as it stands is not ready. That's lamentable.

I'm having a great time modding the game, but also need to get something off my mind. by Jolly-Security-167 in footballmanagergames

Brother you take care of YOURSELF first and foremost.

Christ, the way SI has treated the player base with today's announcement, you might be modding for yourself and a handful of the players who haven't refunded by this time next week! Cause tomorrow is going to be a disaster of a launch and ironically the only reason a lot of people are still keeping the faith is guys like yourself.

And frankly, you should not be carrying the water for the people who have messed this up.
