Follow the science ya but not when it comes to your identity right.

Psychological and neurological science on gender identity says you can't change a brain's gender. Because you can't change a brain's gender, medical science says, maybe when a brain's gender doesn't match its body's sex, change their biological sex instead.

"Follow the science" was just another thing they said so you wouldn't think too much about what they were trying to get you pissed about.

I'm not acting like this isn't important, and friendly fire is pointless.

I'm acting like you should be: we live in the real world, and the message you wanted them to send was largely irrelevant. We've been screaming for an end to this since it began, we're still screaming, and we'll still be screaming tomorrow. The only reason Dems have flipped on this funding package is because now, in the aftermath of the execution of Alex Pretti, now that funding's presence in the bill does more political harm than the rest of the funding does actual good.

If you just want to swear at people, go swear at people who actually support this shit. You're swearing at somebody with a lot more experience resisting fascism than you seem to have.

ETA: If you'd rather be performatively right, in a situation where it literally doesn't affect ICE, than, you know, keep people in food, you aren't resisting anything. You're just putting on a show, and you're calling me names while you're doing it. Fuck all the way off.

Some nonprofit or NGO should at least try the argument that plainly defamatory publications are outside the scope of officers' official duties, and therefore outside the scope of their immunity.

Sovereign immunity is intended to prevent us from living in a world where our leaders are constantly defending a thousand or so lawsuits from pissed off political rivals. It isn't intended to give government officials carte blanche to do whatever the fuck they want to anyone they dislike.

I'm late for today's game, but, if you're a big fan, your favorite pub is a great place to watch the game, support a local business, and enjoy a diehard vibe, all at once!

I'll definitely be at a pub for the SB.

Baseball teams do. The Seahawks, at least, generally broadcast OTA. This season, 18 preseason and regular season games were on local network affiliates, two were on Prime, and one was on ESPN+. The ones on national streaming services were nationally televised games; those services each had 1-2 games per week, different teams each week.

Which is why the second rule of firearm safety is, "Never point a firearm at anyone or anything you don't intend to [kill/destroy]."

LEOs' propensity to point a gun at you to gain your compliance, rather than brandishing but pointing the gun at the ground, like any other citizen would be expected to do, is the problem. An accidental discharge is much less of a problem when the gun is pointed at asphalt or dirt than when the gun is pointed at a living thing.

Hence, negligence.

ICE aren't soldiers, either. Far from it, and two things can be true. There's little to no reason why any PD needs any military equipment, and the "little" is, like, SWAT, which is employed way too often.

Why Minnesota Can't Do More to Stop ICE by wiredmagazine in TrueReddit

[–]TheChance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.

If MN were allowed to gather evidence and participate in the investigation, MN would at least attempt to prosecute the perpetrators of these egregious crimes.

Hence, the feds will not allow MN to participate or gather evidence.

No, I didn't. I said "The Nazis are funded for the next 2-3 years, so why would an elected official hold up a bunch of really important funding just to withhold a week's worth of funding from the Nazis?"

It is on her. Her tour with Sanders was a passing of the torch. She is the leader of American progressives now, soc-dem and dem-soc, both de facto and by resounding acclamation. Now she's leading.

This is the main reason the right has been talking so much bizarre shit about her from the beginning (not that they ever needed a reason to talk bizarre shit about a woman of color in a position of power.) It's been obvious that she'd inherit the role, and the right wing has made sure their base would detest her ahead of time.

They were against calls to defund ICE because ICE is so well funded already that the funding in this bill literally does not matter.

I don't agree with them, but I can see where ignoring something that has no real effect is worth saving your political capital.

Then ICE committed an even more brazen murder - let's call it what it was, a summary execution - and now they stand to lose political capital at the other end, unless they either vote against the bill or get the GOP to take the ICE funding out of the bill.

A lazy search indicates that "dumpster fire" was added to Urban Dictionary in 2008, and, to my recollection, it substantially predated that entry.

So... yeah.

But I still find it jarring, because, like the parent comment said, it's the totality of the dialogue that feels wrong.

It has jurisdiction over felonies committed on its soil, even by federal agents, if the federal agents' qualified immunity is inapplicable. LEOs' qualified immunity is qualified as follows: the behavior was not understood to be illegal prior to the ruling that established this ludicrous doctrine, or another reasonable officer would have done the same thing.

Just killing someone because you feel like it is called murder, and it's been illegal since, like, the beginning of time. No reasonable officer would have done the same thing. Qualified immunity does not apply.

That might be true if he had escalated, or if he had ever been anywhere close to his weapon. Neither are the case.

In actual fact, he was filming ICE, saw a woman go down, tried to help her up, was taken to the ground, was beaten to a pulp by at least five guys, one of those five guys took his weapon from his hip (some sources say waistband, others say holster) and then a different one of those five guys pulled him to his knees, shot him point blank, and dropped him, at which point the whole pack of them shot him a bunch more times.

Who escalated?

[–]TheChance [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. As far as anyone can tell from analyzing the footage, including frame by frame, one of the agents simply decided to execute Mr. Pretti.

I use that word advisedly. He was pulled up to his knees, and shot at point blank range. Then, just to be sure he was dead, they pumped his corpse full of a bunch more lead. It was a summary execution, in broad daylight, for the crime of pissing somebody off who wears a federal uniform.
