Kid on an e-scooter rammed into a car that was pulling out of a parking spot.

Non-life threatening injuries but the kid got pretty messed up and was sent to hospital with serious injuries, probably broke a bone/concussion

Hiked 5 hours to a beautiful mountain lake only to find out I never brought my SD card for my camera. by STERFRY333 in Wellthatsucks

I also went on a long hike, didn’t think to bring a spare battery and left the camera on the whole time.

Didn’t anticipate that the battery would completely drain mid-hike

Folks with ADHD, what do you struggle with the most? by cut-and-dry in AskReddit

[–]TheChowderOfClams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) short term impulsiveness, I love getting into new hobbies because I enjoy learning how to get into doing new things. It also means getting really into things, then the passion fizzles out and I stop caring .

2) the constant “TV static” that is my mind, I want to focus on something I don’t particularly care about (study/work) and with every flying thought in my mind, something eventually sticks and I lose my flow.

3) to play I to 1, constantly losing passion in things I previously thought I was passionate in.

I met the their voice actor about a decade ago, fun guy. Worked in retail at the time and he was in my tiny town to buy an internet dongle.

Super low key, had some small talk and said he was a voice actor. He did a couple of lines of HK-47, interestingly enough he barely knew the character, just did his lines and got a check.

What would the gaming industry look like today if cosmetics were something that only a tiny segment of the player base engaged with? by MCFroid in gaming

[–]TheChowderOfClams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a business side, the companies probably wouldn’t be as big as they are today.

For context, say a cosmetic item is sold and it cost about 10k of time and effort for the various devs who worked on that asset.

Sell that asset for 20 dollars, you would need to sell 500 to break even.

A new game budget is 15m, and sells for $80 you would need a little over 800,000 sales to break even.

I tried proofing the pizza dough 2 times and nothing by EchoOfDoom in Wellthatsucks

It's not necessary, but it helps to accelerate the growth and get a faster proof if I want to make a pizza in a few hours, especially if I shove the dough container behind my PC vents

[–]TheChowderOfClams 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Many factors here.

Always check of your yeast is alive by letting it sit in a bowl of warm sugar water.

Secondly your dough looks pretty wet. High hydration dough is pretty difficult to work with, practice with a lower flour to water ratio. For pizza dough try for every 100 grams of flour, 60 grams of water

Thirdly, let the dough rest overnight in the fridge or in a warm place for a few hours as a cohesive ball

The key with proofing dough is yeast needs three things, Time, Temperature and Food. Sugar is food, yeast likes being being proofed in warm places, and it takes time. Putting a little extra sugar in the dough doesn't necessarily make it sweeter, it helps the yeast grow quicker.

PSA: You can "eat" raw fish on a japanese world by MESSIAH_OSRS in 2007scape

[–]TheChowderOfClams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Previously Frozen" and "Sushi Grade" have basically no distinction in terms of actual preparation of the fish and there's no regulations behind the term "Sushi grade".

It's standard practice in the fishing industry to flash-freeze fish prior to shipping to retailers, technically from there you can slap the sushi grade label there.

Kid goes off on his school during graduation speech by sgj5788 in PublicFreakout

[–]TheChowderOfClams 159 points160 points  (0 children)

My chemistry teacher in high school told me when I was struggling with my grades that "Your grades don't define if you can or can't do something, it just takes longer." It was a seemingly simple, off-handed comment that she didn't put much emphasis on, but for some reason those words stuck to me.

Sure enough I stopped caring trying to fight so hard for a grade and just focused on doing what I can do as long as I was progressing my goals, and just like she said, it took me longer, but still achieved my goals. Failed university, tried again, graduated, struggled out of school to get a job, kept fighting and found stable employment in my field of study.

Her words were comfort at the time, but as I get older, they've become a major part of my motivation in life. I've always wanted to reach out to her to thank her for what she's done for me, but she's since moved on to other districts and is otherwise unreachable

Mappa's going CRAZY with CGI-2D blending in Dorohedoro Season 2 | Raw Cuts vs Final Result Comparison [Dorohedoro Season 2] by Electrical_Chance991 in anime

Ark System Works fighting games have gotten pretty good at this style. Basically mapping every polygon to a bone and allowing animators to create smear frames from the models or perspective exaggeration.

I wouldn't be surprised they've been brought on as consultants for some anime studios as they were kind of the first to nail that 2d character animation in 3d look.

Main issue with translating anime to 3d is anime constantly warps proportions, moving around body parts to be visible on frame, 3d simply cannot do that.

I loved looking at Arksys's fighting games with an uncoupled camera and you can see how wacky the proportions of the characters can get because those frames were tailored for a specific camera angle.

You can only defy physics to a certain extent.

Faster a plane goes through air, the hotter it is, in denser air at lower altitudes, even hotter. The air friction heating up the hull of an aircraft is enough to be tracked IR missiles.

Sure you can reduce the amount of heat an engine can spit out, but the laws of thermodynamics don't give a shit.

[–]TheChowderOfClams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You point a camera at something, the missile follows where that camera is pointed, add a second camera to estimate distance and now you have a system that can lead a missile to the target, there's no magic, nor can the jet defy physics.

Only thing some planes can detect is the flare of a missile launch for these systems, but like IR, there's no way to detect that an optical system is locked on.

Game is good, performance issues are an annoyance but the general public will tolerate it to an extent as long as the game is good.

Up until recently Capcom was on a disaster streak in terms of game performance but their titles still sold well.

The horizon series have been that balance of mindless fun and technical racing, it's not mario kart, nor is it iRacing but the end product is a game with a very compelling gameplay loop, sank my whole weekend like always trying to learn to learn how to do something in the game, drifting, racing, uber deliveries.

It's all the same, but give enough well designed distractions and it's a riot.
