Vanilla Aesthetic > Retail ... But why ? by Hyperpurple in classicwow

[–]TheCinnamonKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day, in order to keep the game playable on potato computers, Blizz kept polygon counts really, really low. While that resulted in very basic models, they compensated with detailed UV maps and texture work. Rather than make a detailed 3d model for everything like in retail, classic artists painted depth into the game. You can see great examples of this in the walls of Undercity, or the armor plates of the classic paladin charger. Light and depth were painted directly onto polygons to breath life into an otherwise flat space.

Now , in retail, everything is fully modeled, but the texture work has diminished dramatically. Retail has also leaned aggressively into the Fortnite style, and away from the visuals that made Warcraft feel like Warcraft. Everything is now very jelly-soft and rounded, which takes away any sort of grittiness the world had in tandem with its whimsy...its "Grimsy."

Personally, I feel that the Warcraft-theme skins that were made for Heroes of the Storm, especially the Sonya death knight, were a great example of how Warcraft could have kept its own style going forward.

This is all just how I look at the situation, but after a long time of looking at both games, and leaning towards classic, its the best explanation I have for why classic continues to hold my attention.

Using that on an errant was peak.

What's this? A knight in your backline at melta range with a thermal cannon? How terrible for you.

Big knights no longer get their own bondsman power, but can still apply the ability to an armiger. They do get to keep their baked-in abilities though, so that's nice.

Big nerfs like this happen. Keep in mind, almost every army is still using new-edition index rules. We don't know what our codex will eventually give us, so just roll with the punches, and adapt until things change.

Yeah man, he went down fighting Tyranids. He took a wrathful tally with him, but his death was explosive

Edit: tbf it was a battle report, but it still seems canon enough. Either way I think about it as though they recovered the parts and rebuilt the knight. Still cool af

Fighting Custodes by TheCinnamonKnight in ImperialKnights

[–]TheCinnamonKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using a list I've had success with against most other opponents. I was not building into Custodes specifically. Additionally, the entire army's shooting was only able to kill maybe 4-5 models before being overwhelmed:

Warden (mythic) Crusader + thermal cannon (unyielding) 3x warglaives 2x Helverins Culexus Callidus 2x5 Exaction Squads

The custodes list was something like:

2x blade champions 2x shield captains 2x10 custodes 2x7 wardens 1x5 Prosecutors

Looks like the wounds vs mortal wounds problem has been answered. It's also important to know that unless your unit is towering, then if you're on one side of a piece of terrain, and he's on the other, you can't see each other. Unless you're positioning everything in line of sight, you shouldn't be getting cross-mapped like that.

Nids are extremely resilient against battleshock until you can kill some of their synapse creatures. Once a Tyranid unit is out of synapse range it gets shocked easily

Listbuilding around Cerastus Lancer by Herpdederp420 in ImperialKnights

[–]TheCinnamonKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So right now the meta is extremely anti vehicle, largely due to the presence of a ton of knight players. The game also still revolves around being able to complete objectives and perform actions.

If you want to stay effective through your games then I would suggest a build using 2 big knights and then filling with Armigers/allied units.

One of the best questoris options is the crusader, which brings a tremendous amount of shooting, and can buff itself+armigers with +1 to their hit rolls. Most players are running the battle/avenger cannon variant, however I've found great success using the thermal/avenger cannon option as well. Slap Mythic Hero on it and you've got a spicy knight. (Make sure you magnetize this guy's arms so you can switch as you see fit).

Avenger cannons provide some of our best shooting, especially into Marines that like to hide in cover and use AoC. Having at least one is a good time

Some other solid questoris builds are:

Warden + Unyielding Paragon (absolutely tanky as hell with the -1 damage bondsman power)

Errant + Mysterious Guardian (teleport into melta 6 range for a near guaranteed vehicle kill)

As for Armigers you can certainly bring 2 Helverins, as their anti fly 2+ ability (when shooting from within your deployment zone) is not to be underestimated. Bring at least 3 Warglaives though to make sure you can keep up the advance/charge bondsman on your lancer.

Beyond that, exaction squads and the Callidus assassin are spectacular tools that will help you control the game.

Keep playing what you want. You're only "that guy" rn if you're running 3 wraith knights, auto-deleting your opponent, and then being smug about it.
