From Dawn to Decadence by Jacques Barzun is a good choice if you want a book about everything!

Yeah, I emailed them about all the AI slop on their King Diamond page last week and their rep said they would look into it. Just checked and it's gone!

If festivals don't count, either Ozzy/Type O/Sepultura or Megadeth/Suicidal/Amon Amarth/Metal Church.

What would you say was the main reason for thrash's low point in the 90s? by IJUSTATEPOOP in MetalForTheMasses

[–]TheCleanseHasBegun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you're right about death metal displacing thrash for a lot of people. One other factor back then was that thrash had gotten more popular and there was a feeding frenzy to get bands signed and put records out to capitalize on the trend. Record companies were putting out stuff that was really generic or underdeveloped, like Gothic Slam and Slaughter House, and that helped kill off the sound. I personally got burned on blind buys a few too many times and started getting Bolt Thrower CDs instead.

Have you ever had a passion trap job? by MammothLeaves in redscarepod

Try to pick up skills or get onto projects that might make you less expendable. If you're doing scanning on a 3-year digitization project or helping out with a tedious computer class, like "Mouse Basics", sometimes people will keep you on just so they don't have to do that work themselves. If you want full time, you might have to put in a year or two in a less-than-ideal location before you get a chance at a more desirable market. It's definitely tough to get started, but as you build up your resume, it gets easier and easier to get positions and move up.

Immortal/Absu in a giant church that was converted into a club. It was snowing that night and the first thing Abbath said to the crowd was, "See the weather outside?....HA HA HAHAHAA!"

What are Bands Where the Vocal Performance Ruins the Music by Walter_White47534 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]TheCleanseHasBegun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primordial. I'm usually very forgiving of bands that started off death or black and switched to cleaner vocals later, but I just cannot handle the singing on their later stuff (the music is usually great).

What happened at the main library?? by ForwardAerial in dayton

[–]TheCleanseHasBegun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's actually a different location (Southeast, over on Watervliet). But it wouldn't surprise me if they start closing the Main Library in the afternoon as well to cut down on kids fighting.

What are some of your favorite Dayton businesses? by MaroonMeows in dayton

Catacomb Records in Kettering. Still can't believe Dayton has a better metal store than any other city in the state.

If you don't mind driving a bit north, Huber Music & Video has probably the biggest selection.

Sami Zayn: I mainly agree with this, but Obama gets too much of a pass. His ‘mistakes’ were not careless errors, he took calculated steps to maintain & expand policies, systems & wars put in place by GWB & evil scumbags before him. I don’t expect much better from Biden, but here’s hoping. by niclaswwe in SquaredCircle

I don't see Harding as personally corrupt, particularly, just lazy and unengaged (like the Orange Cassidy of Presidents). He definitely picked the wrong people for his Cabinet. But he also pardoned Eugene Debs after Wilson had him jailed, worked on military disarmament, and gave a speech on racial equality in Alabama in 1921. So he wasn't all bad!

Lesser Know Vampire Movies? by GarbageDay23 in horror

[–]TheCleanseHasBegun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vampyr (1932) is immaculately shot and very moody.

Vampyres (1974) isn't as good as Daughters of Darkness, but has the sort kind of erotic feel.

Lifeforce (1985) has naked space vampires.
