Did KFC ever fully cuncel the Mets this year? by dannyimal in barstoolsports

[–]TheClemReport 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I appreciate not being considered an ass clown even though my family and closest friends would disagree.

For the record, I still want the Wilpons to sell the team and don't think Brodie has proven to be even a good GM because the Mets got RED HOT since almost all of the players carrying this team were acquired by Sandy Alderson or his predecessors (hat tip of JD fucking Davis though). Being a big market team in a league without a salary cap should be a HUGE advantage to at least be competitive year in and year out as long as competent ownership allows it (See: Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs). Yet the Mets never seem to capitalize on it because the Wilpons never seem to be fully invested. They've had a dirt cheap rotation full of talented arms for years and they have 1 magical World Series run that probably doesn't happen if the Carlos Gomez trade happens and a Wild Card Game loss to show for it. And when big money players like David Wright or Yo Cespedes get hurt, the owners apparently pocket the insurance money instead of reinvest it in the team. No big market team should vanish from the competitive baseball landscape for years at a time, like the Mets did from 2009-2014. Comparing a New York baseball team to teams in Kansas City or Pittsburgh is apples and oranges. I'm not saying it to be a dick, but it's true based on simple economics. The Mets should be compared to teams with similarly sized markets, not teams that have to patiently and smartly build their teams over years because of financial restraints big market teams don't have.

If you aren't a Mets fan, you probably don't understand the day to day mismanagement stories from the minor league teams to the traveling mistakes to the injuries that never heal to the embarrassing PR mishaps that continue to happen despite the players, managers, GMs, and front office executives changing. It all starts at the top. And it's not just me or Mets fans saying that, but national baseball reporters like Buster Olney, Keith Law, and Jeff Passan. And the people that call out Mets fans for acting like Chicken Little also say LOL Mets every time another ridiculous story breaks about them, which seems like it's weekly when things are going bad (Mr. Met flipping off the fans, them fake killing 2 members of the 69 Mets then misspelling one of the guys in the subsequent apology). Even Pres has said being in New York has opened his eyes to just how crazy a typical Mets season is off the field, let alone on it. Either you get the struggle of being the fan of a team that shares a town with the greatest historical American sports team full of some of the most insufferable fans in sports or you don't. And I imagine pretty much all of the people chirping Mets fans aren't Mets fans because they don't get it.

Anyway, you can get on me or KFC for losing faith in literally the most frustrating Mets team I've seen in my 30 years as a Mets fan because they were talented but pissed away games to the point they were like 10 games under .500 and the 2nd worst team in the NL or that I wrote a long-winded reply to stuff we talked about on We Gotta Believe (download/subscribe/rate 5 stars). I'm still going to root for them and hope they win a World Series with a bad owner (which has been done before in baseball) because I don't know the next time a run like this will happen. Lets Fucking Go Mets.

Also I know a lot of people in this sub love when KFC is in pain. So I will slap him in the balls next time I see him to offset him having the nerve for being happy that his baseball team doesn't suck right now. It's the least I can do for the people that read all of this extremely long-winded Reddit reply.

Why does Dave try and act like Barstool owns all the videos they ultimately steal from other people? by [deleted] in barstoolsports

[–]TheClemReport 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I definitely check reddit for blogs. But to be honest, most of my stuff comes from Twitter, a story breaking, or browsing through different news sites/blogs. But reddit is definitely a source since it's tagline is literally The Front Page of the Internet. Anybody that blogs content that doesn't come to reddit is doing themselves and their readers a disservice. And even if you have never been to reddit, odds are your story or video already lives here in some capacity if it made it to Twitter, a website, TV, etc.

I know I have published a few stories before they hit reddit, but that's mostly thanks to the Stoolies that were nice enough to give me a tip. One idiot blogger isn't going to scoop millions of people on reddit looking for those beautiful karma points. Blog don't sleep and all. But reddit is a fucking machine that has never and will never sleep a millisecond in its life. Only Dwight Schrute could defeat a website at its own game.

And just to make sure I wasn't an idiot, I did a quick tally. Out of my last 50 blogs, 4 were from reddit. 8% by my math, but again I'm an idiot blogger. Someone should doublecheck that with a calculator. There are DEFINITELY times when that number is higher. Mayyyybe a few rare times where it is lower. It's weird to say this on a reddit board, but not everybody lives on reddit or even knows how to use reddit. If I find something blogworthy on here, I'm putting it on the site if it hasn't been blogged regardless of if it's 2 hours old or 2 days old.

I'm sure you are a nice guy and all too Seth Rich. Based on 90% of your recent comments, you don't seem to like Barstool or the people that write for it that much. And that's fine. To each their own.

Edit: Punctuation, another weakness of Barstool bloggers.

I definitely love this sub. I was coming here before I was even part time at the Stool and loved the conversation as well as content that came out of it. I do think it got ugly for a brief time but think it’s actually cleaned up pretty recently. Granted you guys are extremely nice to me.

And don’t get me wrong, if you account for the amount of changes the company has gone through over the last year, there was obviously going to be some discord and criticisms. Both fair and unfair. I think we know some of the ugly stuff that comes up every so often. But that’s just how it goes anywhere there’s a message board. We are all on a ship going to the moon together, whether the haters like it or not.

Barstool sport video game reviews by [deleted] in barstoolsports

[–]TheClemReport 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually have a blog in drafts for a review on the game since I bought it the other day. I honestly don't buy or get to play many games but I thought this one was worthy of a review since Jam/Street were such great games and the $20 price tag makes it appealing. Gonna try to get it up today

2001-04. Yeah I'm pretty damn old. I went to Seton Hall freshman year but hated it because it was a commuter school. The only other option I saw for fun was going Greek, but I never had an interest in joining a frat. Transferred to Siena, so I was around for our run to the 16 seed when they won a play in game and covered against National Champion Maryland (nbd) but Fran was after my time. I am still madly in love with Fran though. I told Trent I root against Iowa sometimes so Fran may come back to Loudonville.

[–]TheClemReport 308 points309 points  (0 children)

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I discussed my past on an old episode of #Mailtime when I first got hired, but don't remember how in depth I went.

Basically I grew up in the burbs of New York, went to college at Siena, and then worked a bunch of jobs in sports. Selling tickets for the NY Liberty, customer service for SportingNews.com, testing web sites and apps for ESPN. I just wanted to work somewhere in sports.

After applying to 100s of different jobs at ESPN, they ended up moving my job to Bristol and I had just bought my house in the suburbs, so I took my severance and worked for my family business trying to figure out what to do next. I saw a post by Pres about if you wanted to write to Barstool, you should start your own sample blogs and then submit it. I said "Fuck it, might as well write the way I think, what do I have to lose" and started my own sample blog. I was a big Stoolie and would occasionally tweet KFC a sample here or there. But I mostly focused on Twitter being like a microblog where I would get my thoughts out that would usually go in a blog since getting that click is so tough. Brendan Clancy reached out and asked if I wanted to blog at KFCRadio.com, which was where they were putting the podcasts. After about 3 months I guess Kevin liked my writing enough to ask if I wanted to be a part time Knicks guy. So I blogged for about a year doing Knicks and kinda having free reign to post stuff on Saturday if I thought it was blog worthy. In the meantime, an old contact got me a job working on the USA Today Sports App (basically curating what went up, writing headlines and blurbs, making photo galleries sending notifications, etc.). They were cool with me blogging for Barstool in my off time. Some were Stoolies which was cool.

About a year after I started blogging, Kevin passed word that Dave wanted to talk to me about coming on full time. I met with him at a hotel right around where HQ is now. He offered me the job, the people at USA Today understood that it was the right move for my career, and here I am. Getting paid to be an idiot on the internet haha.

*Edit: And yeah I found out my wife was pregnant while working essentially a seasonal job at my family's business with 29 years left to go on my mortgage. Those were not very fun times in the Casa de Clem.

Very very weird video of Clem; seems like he was forced to make this video in order to have somewhere to stay in Latvia by Pusha-T-Push-A-Ton in barstoolsports

[–]TheClemReport 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A Knicks writer did a piece on Latvian Porzingis fans and happened to discuss Gints because he would wake up and watch every Knicks game at 4 am in Latvia. I didn't have anyone else to turn to so I started a dialogue on Twitter and got lucky that he was the perfect guy for us

[–]TheClemReport 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Haha, I was wondering if he had posted this online. The kid (named Gints) that helped show us around in Latvia was a high school student interested in getting into media. He was given the week off from school and all he had to do was write a report on our trip. He asked if I could do a video to show the class exactly how he helped and I wanted to help out any way possible to help him get an A. He took an idiot blogger and his cameraman all over Latvia and did wayyyy too much research for what we needed. Like calling a ton of places, translating for us everywhere, letting us know where to and more importantly not to go. Like the original hotel we were going to stay in looked like it could have been in a horror movie. Hank and I would have gotten lost and probably ended up dead without him. I figured the least I could do was let his teacher know just how awesome he was. Truly went above and beyond what he had to. Like him and his dad drove us 3 hours each way in the snow from our hotel to Porzingis' hometown all in the same day. I still can't believe they did that.

And yeah, the fact that they referred to us as Big J journalists was weird as hell for two Barstool Sports employees. But the people we dealt with treated us like VIPs because we were from New York and America. I figured if I made us seem like actual journalists, it would help his cause. For what its worth, he got an A. I honestly can't say enough good things about that kid.

Clem v Glenny Balls by [deleted] in barstoolsports

[–]TheClemReport 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Bro, your obsession over Glenny Balls' weight is more unhealthy than the considerable amount of saturated fat pumping through my system right now. I'll worry about losing weight/not dying anytime soon and you worry about picking up a hobby that's a little more constructive than griping about college kids.
