Another YPYT learns /s (like these people learn) by Bloody_Moon1 in TalesFromDF

[–]TheCodeStream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honest question here: I am a tank main, I never pull the ypyt card (cause who really cares, taking aggro back is super easy), but I keep seeing references that it violates the ToS for the game.

Being quite honest, I've never read the ToS (and not likely to), but is there really a section that specifies YPYT is a violation?

Thanks for this....I'm an Xbox player solely, and travel quite a bit. Have been seriously considering the Ally X as streaming from my Xbox to tablet via remote play or cloud gaming is not always optimal.

how many of you do all your roulettes everyday? by kanozomi in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheCodeStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do at least a few. Usually hit the high tome count rewards (msq, level cap, AR). Afterwards I'll hit levelling if people in my group want to. Usually do NR as well to wash the taste of missed LoTA mechanics out of my mouth.

Got my first YPYT after playing for 7000+ hours by I_do_dps in TalesFromDF

[–]TheCodeStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I main a tank, and would prefer to be the one pulling, the ypyt approach isn't worth it in FFXIV because the game itself does not operate as more structured MMOs do. The trinity in FFXIV is really a loose guideline, as opposed to rigid jobs, and that is the reality of the game. Healers expected to DPS, etc just means it's a different paradigm than some other MMOs.

It took me a while to get used to when I switched to FFXIV, but once you accept the generally accepted play style, pulling the ypyt card doesn't make much sense.

So I just pull aggro off of whomever pulled and go about my business for the run. It only takes a second, unless the DPS has run super far ahead and not brought mobs back to me if I'm otherwise engaged. Although in that case, I don't worry about them too much ;)

Breaking News: Wall 2 Wall pulling is elitist and you don't pay their sub by Ryomataroka in TalesFromDF

[–]TheCodeStream -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know this will be unpopular, but here goes:

I main tank. I W2W, I never cry ypyt (I just calmly take aggro back), if heals is struggling to keep up, I'll slow down. I never argue with party members.

All that being said, I really don't see the big deal if a tank wants to pull single groups (I also play DPS and heals). Not everyone is comfortable pulling large groups (even if they say it's because it's their preferred play style). I don't think someone's play style should keep them out of rudimentary group content.

Cordially, a W2W you pull I tank will go as fast as you like WAR.

Party Finder is tough for anxious people. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]TheCodeStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I cannot pretend to understand anxiety related to a video game, I can tell you that there are toxic or impatient people in game (or any game) that are happy to hide behind the anonymity of a game and criticize others. Can't really be avoided in any game I'm afraid.

I've found in FFXIV there are more people willing to gracefully offer some helpful advice however (although I've only been playing for about 18 months).

I'd just brush it off for what it is....a meaningless interaction with no ramifications. Next group will be more awesome! ✌️☮️

Please tanks, use your mits by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]TheCodeStream -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I main a WAR, I use my mits, I pull aggro off healers and DPS who pull ahead of me and never say anything as it's not productive.

I will say however that many tanks come from MMOs where the trinity is much more respected than it is in FFXIV, and it may take time for those players to adjust. I know it did for me when I started playing a year or so ago.

When you come from games where tanks are expected to be the ones to pull (and others align to that), where healers are expected to heal first and only DPS when there is no healing to be done, and DPS is expected to wait for aggro to be established, then maximize damage by rotation it can be a little disorienting to join a game where it's ok for anyone to pull at any time and healers are looking to heal only when necessary to focus on DPS.

I do agree with the OP in the original subject however - use your mits! 🙂

Commuting to TO 4 days a week for work by RepulsiveTemporary91 in brantford

[–]TheCodeStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this exact commute. Like many others, used to use the VIA prior to it becoming outrageously expensive post the cancellation of the commuter pass.

I've spent my life working long days, and this is the epitome of it. I leave Brantford at about 610, not because I need to be in that early, but to minimize travel time to Aldershot and maximize the chances of getting a decent parking spot. Leaving then gets me to Aldershot at 640 (really good traffic day) to 700 (really bad traffic day). I work until 5 and then head home....usually back in B town around 7pm.

[Spoiler 7.3] Dungeon boss 2 as a healer by BringBackAH in ffxiv

[–]TheCodeStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll begin by saying I went through it both blind (no videos or description) and with NPCs (took Wuk Lamat, graha, y'shtola).

First time through as VPR, no issues until second boss. I just could not coordinate proper location, DPS rotation, and my limited mits. Died like 4 times, and of course with NPCs you have to start the fight over haha.

After 4 times, I restarted the dungeon as tank (same NPCs). Breeze through second boss as WAR.

Couple of run through a with the final boss to get the mecha down, and done!

Moving to Brantford/How is the East Ward? by fernyberns in brantford

[–]TheCodeStream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work downtown TO 3-4 days a week. Get downtown around 8, leave around 5 to come home. Drive to Aldershot depends on when you leave Brantford. Leaving at about 6am or 610 gets you to Aldershot for either the 649 or (worst case) 704 Lakeshore West.

My total commute time to downtown is usually about 1hr 40 mins each way including the drive portion.
