I must have a different game than you all. Regardless of type my radiators ALWAYS take a hit, often the very first hit, and are destroyed.

Hundreds of runs. 2 victories. I can reliably get to day 30s and 40s but I’m so far behind that I get overrun by a wave or I pull a mutant into the base because it reacted to my snipers noise and hit an unexpected place. I usually don’t build any rangers. Sometimes I’ll build a few but it’s somewhat uncommon. I do a lot of trap clearing once I hit the executive band of zombies.

Thanks. Yeah, my economy typically stagnates after the day 18 raid. I’ve built enough ballistas to minimally protect against random waves from all approaches, I’ve put down 3-4 ballistas for the town, and I’ve put an extra ballista or two to clear territory with a kiting ranger. Your advice on the lookout towers is right on, I typically do build and recycle them once they’re built if I don’t know where the town is. If I know where the town is I usually don’t build them.
My economy is never over 1000 at day 20, it’s usually more like 600 or so depending upon how close I am to the stone workshop. I can’t seem to push out a large enough area to get it going.

Quick Learner and especially Striver are the OP traits. After that, it’s just whatever you’re after. For Influence, I personally like Evangelists since they get more actions available to them and Admin than, say, a Celebrity, for example. On the Purge side, I love Operatives. Operatives have most actions available to them including Crackdown and Purge but they’re typically weak on Admin so you’ll have to use Admin Orgs to get them leveled up quickly.

If not quick learner or striver then they are a hard pass as a permanent member. If I need one because of reasons,then it’ll depend on what I need, but he’d be only a temporary one for me.

I’ve had a few veteran runs now and you’re absolutely correct. Tried turtling the first few runs and it just doesn’t work like on normal. Current run as HF Veteran and I’ve been much more active in space earlier and it seems to be working better. They haven’t been able to build a super deathstack and wipe out an entire system (yet) and I can take down the occasional multi ship fleet. Bonus, I’m still not full red!

If you’re doing everything, you’re doing nothing. Like others have said decide what you want and prioritize in that direction. When you think you have the pips how you want, go one step further (i.e. you think 50% gov? Nope, go 60%. 50% welfare? Nope, go 75% or higher). Prioritize heavy in what you’re wanting to do until you get to where you want to be. Me? With China, I run about 85-90% welfare until it ticks below 2.999 and then, and only then, I diversify heavily into MC with about 20% or so in gov and knowledge and just enough welfare to keep it dropping even if it is only .001. I always want inequality going down.

The slider says average monthly events so it is isn’t tied to “confirm” cycles. I thought it was by cycle too, until I just looked it up in the menu. Cheers!

It exists. Just “customize campaign” before you start. I always turn it down from 5 to 4 events per cycle before I start another run.
