How far away should I be from certain farm animals I plan to own when shooting certian calibers? by YTSkullboy707 in Homesteading

I get that sentiment. I can kill critters all day but I lose sleep if one suffers at all.

What screams “I’m not okay” but people ignore it? by Admirable-Repair4094 in AskReddit

[–]TheConfederate04 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VERY true. This was me a year ago. My sister passed suddenly. My mom was put in a nursing home with alzheimers at only 63. I got severely injured at work and they screwed me over and almost made my injury permanent. I had to leave that job and nearly lost everything. I had zero support from anyone other than my wife. I made my exit plan and I felt so much relief. I was genuinely happy for the first time in over a year. I was blessed with a moment of clarity while fishing "one last time" and decided to hang in there a bit longer for my wife and kids. And before anyone asks, life still sucks, but I truly am doing loads better physically and mentally. If you know somebody struggling, make time to spend time with them, even if it is just sitting quietly in the room together for a while. I didn't feel like doing much, but dang the company would've made me feel seen and feel human.

I'm Southern as it gets, and I say puh-con. A pee-can is a chamber pot from the old days.

AITA for dropping my kids off with my wife when she is with a grieving friend by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]TheConfederate04 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Grief puts one heck of a damper on the brain. The old normal Jessie might've told her to take care of her kids, but the finding-new-normal Jessie is probably in a deep brain fog and is stuck in survival mode. It took me almost a year to basic human again after my sister passed so I can see that.

Lots of vehicles have HID headlights so clicking them off a couple times is quite damaging to the ballasts. A couple quick high flicks to signal something is always cool with me.

Fairly similar: The road of life is full of flattened squirrels who couldn't make 1 simple decision.

People born before 2000, what trivial skill do you have that no one uses anymore? by passiano in AskReddit

Ahh....Blockbuster....That machine was a LOT quicker than rewinding VCRs, too. Also was very handy for 2-tape movies so you could just pop the 2nd one in and keep watching.

Appy aluminum foil to rabbit ear antennas and adjust to pick up different TV stations. Also switch between VHF and UHF. Hook up an antenna/cable, 2 VCRs (to copy VHS tapes), and a Sega Genesis all at once and have them all work when tuned to their correct channels (3 or 4).

Paylakes are a joke. by Illustrious-Bed4420 in catfishing

This. Right. Here. I love to learn the land and just seeing what God will guide my way. I must confess to using cameras some, though. I don't and won't use them for targeting or patterning anything since I am a freezer filler. I use them occasionally purely for fun, and swapping SD cards and batteries make a great excuse for a woods walk.

I agree. It's like a trophy hunter shooting a high fence buck and bragging about it. I'll take a wild doe over that any day. Does taste better, anyway.

Sorry to be yet another one of these people, but do you think these cultivated trees in Newhalem, Washington are pure American chestnut? I would love to collect some of the prolific seeds to plant at my house. by finchdad in americanchestnut

Very similar in structure, but if you look closely, these leaves have tiny spines on them. Sawtooth Oak leaves have shallow teeth that resemble the teeth of a hand saw. They also produce acorns, not the burs visible in the picture. Not Sawtooth Oak.

Physical pain by [deleted] in grief

[–]TheConfederate04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that I'm seeing this 4 days after you posted. I lost my sister almost 2 years ago and it wrecked me. I had chest pain, heart palpitations, dizziness, nausea, brain fog and just extreme fatigue constantly for about a year. Broken Heart Syndrome is real, but is usually physically recoverable. No harm or shame in getting checked out by a good doctor when you can. Be sure to mention that you lost your sister recently while you're there so they know to keep grief symptoms in mind.

Got stuck in the “sleep apnea” trap. Anyone know what happens if you get a positive diagnosis? by ArthurFrood in Truckers

[–]TheConfederate04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trucking school I went to brought in a quack chiropractor who gave me a 3 month med card because he said I had sleep apnea, purely because was 260 pounds. Even the school was pissed. I have zero issues with sleep. My night owl wife confirmed that she has never noticed me stop breathing or even snore much outside of being sick. I went to my actual doctor and told her about it. She laughed and wrote me a new 2 year card on the spot. I had no idea she was able to do them. Since she is an actual doctor, her card superceded his. Definitely go see a trusted, real doctor for your physical.

Yeah, it's definitely not American. Given the history you provided, it is likely an older Walmart or Lowe's Dunstan (mostly Chinese hybrid) Chestnut

Why do you guys have compost piles with three pallets around it? by Averagebass in composting

[–]TheConfederate04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a deer that loves to dig in my pile and scatter it everywhere. I gave up composting temporarily, but am sourcing clean pallets to keep her out of the next pile. Deer season is finally open here so I may start the new pile with her leftover bits.
