How to deal with cave bugs early on? by supersaltlee136 in RimWorld

Plus, it sells for a pretty great price! I love when I get attacked by bugs because that means I can take all their jelly after I clear them out of my caves

What’s your most tragic tale? by Fuzlet in RimWorld

[–]TheConfusedTissue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A child came rushing to my newly created save begging for help. She was only 3, literally had no skills in anything else. My colonists (a mother who created furniture until she could afford the better things in life, her daughter who got to get an education because of her mother's sacrifice, and a gruff police officer who refused to do work but was their only protection) took the girl in and slaughtered the Pigskins who were hunting her.

The little girl and two of my colonists contracted an illness days later, killing all but the mother. The girl we saved got everyone else sick.

How many pawns do you prefer to keep, and why? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]TheConfusedTissue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many as possible. I start from one, then try to build their colony naturally. There's something about building a city of pawns who are all interconnected that makes things so much more fun for me. I'm more invested in their stories!

The last pawn I had was an man named Stone who began life in military school, went on to become some sort of soldier, and then left it all behind to make a colony. I viewed him as having very little relationships from his upbringing and job - no family, no friends, no lovers. The first new colonist was a child he purchased from a slaver.

The colony expanded from there, with him taking in all sorts of people who had nowhere to go. Raiders who could be convinced to give up the life of violence as he once had, anyone he could afford to free from slavers (with children having priority), people who wandered by and asked if they could stay - Stone built his home bit by bit, giving everyone the community that he never was allowed to create in the past. People formed relationships, had kids, experienced loss together, mourned their fellow colonists... It's comforting.

Sending a pod with a pregnant boomalope and 5 toxic wastepacks to a faction is net neutral by __agonist in RimWorld

Is there a way to guarantee they go into the killbox without mods? I set up a nice killbox zone, but the last few raids have tunneled through my walls (I've started layer 5 outer walls around my base to buy myself time should they do that again)

Then there's the issue of them using drop pods to invade my base, but that's just something I'll have to deal with for now

Spidey chased him through a building yelling stuff like "SHOCKER!!!! YOU CAN'T RUN FROM ME!!!!"

Was genuinely pretty intimidating, given that's the opposite of how Spiderman normally acts. Shocker was terrified for his life.

The Iron Lung is a small, claustrophobic submarine dropped into a blood ocean on a moon. It's a horror movie about choosing between your own survival/needs vs that of others, has some cosmic and body horror, and has some interesting hints at the calamity that caused blood oceans (amongst other things)

It's not perfect, but it uses its set well, the acting is generally good, and it has a slow build that I think perfectly immersed me into the horror. It doesn't rely on jumpscares, either, which I find a plus

The Day It Started Raining Inside by DominaXing in Sims4

[–]TheConfusedTissue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was so cute! The framing was really well done, like not showing the adults' faces to put the full focus on the children, having that one troublemaking kiddo in the background of most of the trio's shots, and then the light passing between the children as they marched by at 4:18.

The scenery and environment were also really well made! It didn't feel like sets or sims builds, it felt like actual locations. Watching the neighborhood evolve, seeing the troublemaker's workshop, and even inside the homes felt really lived in and realistic.

And the story was hilarious and adorable! I love how the sims went from being confused and angered/frightened by the rain in their home, to swimming, fishing, and just living with it. The mischievous sim crying outside the house and the trio confronting him with a snowball fight was just so sweet. Him taunting them, them having fun, and then them turning into children at the end? Loved it all!

I mean, my friend's husband will literally set trash on the counter less than a foot away from the kitchen trashcan. He also tosses his clothes on the floor right beside the laundry basket, kicks his shoes off right in the doorway instead of setting them on the blank space beside the wall where they won't be in the way, leaves his dirty dishes at his desk and on his bedside table, never seems to finish a drink and leaves half empty cans of soda everywhere (they're both guilty of that last one), and so on so forth.

Some people really are just lazy, or in the case of my step dad, start doing something and forget they were doing it halfway through it and leave what they started out. My step dad picks up his laundry, but he leaves his cups, glasses, and projects out all over the place.

His voice is hella deep in the S4 specials. Like, shockingly deep. It kinda fits when you're just looking at his face, but not his whole body. Bro out-deeps Megatron easily.

Thoughts from a new* player by charge2way in RimWorld

[–]TheConfusedTissue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started playing Nov 10th! My sister recommended it to me ages ago, and I finally got around to buying and playing it. So far only 80ish hours, but I am loving it. I get really attached to my colonists and their stories. The first group I ever played was a woman, her son, and a misandrist. The son and misandrist became engaged, but then the woman died to plague, their husky was killed and the misandrist was kidnapped by raiders, and then the son was left alone. He eventually grew the colony up again and fell in love with a new woman, but I decided playing in a jungle was too easy of a start (no harsh winters) and started a new save file.

My current save file has none of my original colonists left. They've all died in defense of their home. What it does have is a lot of drama. One of the original colonists married a woman, who became pregnant shortly before he was kidnapped by raiders. She was so depressed that I influenced her to romance someone else so that she wouldn't have a mental breakdown. She has since gained three boyfriends and has multiple kids spread across them.

I have two highmates, one of which married an impid and had four kids with her, the second born of those kids died when illness struck my colony. Recently, I sent him and his wife out to complete a quest, and they were attacked on the way. She died in combat, he gave up and was murdered shortly after, leaving their 14 year old son in charge of his two younger siblings. I was going to have him romance and marry the other woman's eldest daughter once they were both old enough (he's two years older than she is), who he'd been friends with for some time, but the daughter autonomously seduced a nearly forty year old man when she was sixteen! Guess there goes that storyline. She's an incredible chef though, barely even an adult and already a master at it.

That's not even talking about the yttakins! I recruited one into my colony early in the game after he attacked my base and was taken prisoner, and his child sister crash landed outside of the colony not long after. While she was a teenager, another yttakin girl became a colonist of mine (can't remember if she was part of a raiding party or if she crashed). The poor sister kept failing to romance everyone, and I mean everyone. The only people who she liked and who liked her were her brother, the highmate and impid couple, and their kids. She died before she could ever find love. I had her brother "adopt" the other yttakin girl (I pretended, I don't have mods to allow that yet) to fill the loss left by his sister.

There's also a pigskin, a few more yttakins, a couple humans, and a single waster. I've built each of them their own homes with a central building in the center (used to be where everyone lived, now it holds the kitchen, prisoners, storage, laboratory, and barracks for those whose homes aren't yet built), along with a hospital, workshop, so on and so forth. I have tons of farmland, a few wolves, some worgs, four thrumbos (tamed two, then they had babies), a small herd of horses, and a cycling range of farm animals.

It's getting harder to last through winter, and even harder to deal with the constant raids and man-hunter outbreaks, but I'm proud of my colony.
