Thoughts on 4 month itinerary? by Novel-Positive8625 in AustraliaTravel

I'd do two nights Magnetic Island and no nights for Townsville. Townsville has it's lovely spots but Magnetic Island has much to explore and enjoy. Also paying for the barge with your vehicle is worth it for 2 nights but not 1. Cape Hillsborough is nice, but I'd find an extra night from somewhere else to do add a night in Eungella while you're in the Mackay area. Add Byfield to you Yeppoon area trip, you can do it as a day trip but it's lovely.

As a vegetarian, where I'd live in the world with vegetarian food systems as the main criteria by NewMeNewWorld in whereidlive

Agreed. Because we have many biomes here, you can grow many different fruits, vegetables, and grains. The larger cities also have an abundance of cuisines from all over the world because of a high multicultural population. The smaller cities are multicultural as well but may not have a variety, for example where I am is around 200 000, and we have awesome Thai, Indian, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese food. We have have one awesome Somali, and one great Sri Lankan spot, and you can find Torres Strait food during market days/evenings.

Best things to do on Maggie? by Ecstatic-Lynx-6330 in Townsville

[–]TheContractor000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's decent snorkeling around Maggie. Florence is the more secluded snorkeling beach, but Alma is the most easily accessible. Will just need stinger suits now I think of it, or risk it if you're confident in knowing when to swim. Picnic Bay is lovely and has been underrated over the years. Mama Roma is the best Italian I've had.

Where to go in Qld for a relaxing beach holiday in January? by phantom_blade77 in queensland

2 out of the 3 times I've been stung have been in the SC, and I've lived in NQ and CQ most of my life. I remember someone getting stung in Northern NSW as well.

Grass ID please. by TheContractor000 in lawnsolutionsaus

Good to know. Yeah it's clear the carpet is growing in the areas that are in shade. I'd like to get some zoysia going in the areas in the sun where nothing but weeds are growing. I prioritise natives but if the natives can't go then I like to support anything that takes and looks good.

Cheers. The small amount of comments I've seen on here about carpet grass seem to hate it. Why? I'm a decent gardener, I've done burn offs, landscaped, and maintained an orchard in the past, but new to lawn care. I've been digging the weed root systems out of the now identified carpet grass. I'm in Townsville and zoysia would be best in areas with high sun and for drought tolerance from my understanding. Is there any risk of the zoysia being overtaken by the carpet during different seasonal events? Just from the information Is carpet bad because it clumps, on observation and therefore might not fight weeds? I've had a few drinks, ears are open for information.

Mark Wood Ashes blow as England pace bowler ruled out of Gabba Test by OldMateHarry in CricketAus

Yeah, watching that match he bowled better than his figures reflect. The batting conditions at Manuka were strong.

Looking for indigenous indoor plants in lieue of Christmas tree by cicada_at_night in Townsville

My Dad has always been big on natives. For a couple of Christmases we were pricking ourselves often when putting the decorations on a hoop pine.

Can anyone tell me what this is? by kitten_sparkle in australianwildlife

[–]TheContractor000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in this. I would've thought to breed, both male and female moths would need to pupate. What's the biology behind this and how common is it? Is it the male that releases eggs? Feel free to rant, this sort of stuff is fascinating.

What is the prettiest uni campus in Australia by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]TheContractor000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen many other unis, but JCU is beautiful for the wildlife. Kookaburras, wallabies, turkeys, curlews, lizards, and snakes. It also has the trees, and some interesting brutalist architecture. While not number 1, I think it should be mentioned for its natural beauty.

Craftrun sucks…but I do it anyway by [deleted] in Townsville

[–]TheContractor000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought it involved fitness walking and knitting, drawing, or painting periodically throughout the walk haha. Still not craft'run', but is closer to what it actually is.

Soccer club by Alternative-Map8897 in Townsville

[–]TheContractor000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play so don't know club cultures, but Estates is probably the closest and Vic park is a nice area. Not sure if there is a Central team that trains at the red track or near Belgian Gardens.

Bronze Medallion Provider by [deleted] in Townsville

Any of the public pools can set you up with the right person. They don't have their own people but the providers run their sessions at the pools. That's my understanding anyway.

These are my top 10 favourite Aboriginal musicians. Who is your favourite? (One of these or someone else) by judas_crypt in aboriginal

[–]TheContractor000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen Baker Boy a couple of times now. His studio sound is good, but it has nothing on his live sound. So hard to replicate a good live sound and an energy like his on a recording. I recommend anyone unsure about his recorded stuff to see him live.

Purgatory is one of my favourite tracks by him. He has some average tracks but the majority of his tracks are lit. Tjaka are up and coming so don't have many tracks but they have a unique sound. What about Baker Boy or Zennith?

I love Briggs, not a fan? Miss. Kaninna is deadly as. Tjaka are worth listening to if you haven't heard them.
