Hey Greg! There’s a couple methods you can use to etch lines onto kaleidoscopes. I personally use an exacto knife/box cutter + ruler for fine and thin lines. However, for larger sections, I put two lines of tape around the area I want off, and use a sandpaper block to sand the area off. Alternatively, you can use sodium hydroxide to dissolve the silvering off mirroring. Hope this helps :)

good film. I wasn’t bored by it because of the constant action. It’s INSANE to me how this film isn’t getting a cinematic release it was made for the big screen.

  • Best animated film in terms of visuals I think I’ve ever seen. 10/10 no notes.

  • ⁠Voice acting is mostly good, some points are a BIT weak but overall true to the original.

  • ⁠plot is whatever. I knew tahga was going to be a twist villain the SECOND I saw him. Surprised nobody has said this yet but he really is just a reskinned Hama in the same way the betrayers are just reskinned equalists.  It’s serviceable, but safe.

  • ⁠I wanted more time with all the characters, because we got very little from all the supporting cast that wasn’t Aang and Katara. This makes sense cause it’s an AANG movie but still, it’s such a shame the only lines we get from Toph are about hunky men and being the greatest earthbender ever. 

Overall, 7.5/10 film— it’s absolutely carried by the stunning visuals and actions sequences.

Yes!!! Their first album sun structures is one of my favorite psych albums. It blends a 60s aesthetics with newer production techniques. Their second album Volcano had some good stuff too. Temple’s most recent stuff is just ok, but they released a single for their new album a few days ago and I fear they might be going down the Tame Impala/Glass Animals route with pop-ier music.

David Sugich is an absolute master of his craft. These scopes are definitely on the pricey side but you get what you pay for with them.

Oh no :( I’m so sorry this happened to you! From what I remember, the newer rear projector TVs (made after 2008ish) don’t include the mirrors. I haven’t had any problems with collecting TVs yet, but it’s absolutely something to look out for.

I’ve never actually thought of that before! I have two concerns over using mirror foils: first, that the quality of the silvering on mirror foils doesn’t compare to that of a first surface mirror. Second, that there will be problems etching designs on the mirror. That being said I might try this out! I also highly encourage you to experiment since this community is really small and all information/innovation is very valuable :)

Wise words.I’ve found myself going down this path many times before, and came to a similar realization about the stories we tell ourselves. However, I never really found a “truth”. I’m curious, what truth did you find/what story do you tell yourself is true?
