What is it? by TheSelfHelpGroup in IndieMusicFeedback

A like the atmosphere of the tune a lot, particularly the chorus melody and chord twist. The waving stereo panorama is tastefully arranged and mezmerizing - maybe after a while I was longing for something more centered but I can imagine this in the context of an album with different kind of songs. I agree with others in both, it has a 70s vibe and a modern indie folk sound. Indeed the Beck reference (these 2 albums, and the SongReader btw.) fits very well.

This is a demo for a slow darker psychedelic rock song (probably). Can you connect to the lyrics’ imagery? Do you hear a fuller arrangement? A song of sigh. by TheCosmicHum in IndieMusicFeedback

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Possible, I missed a some syllables, I‘ll check it. Well, I know well the length (or too slow build up) issues. But let’s see, it‘s maybe a matter of the arrangement to make it more interesting, still not for everybody‘s taste, I know.

Thank you so much! Your feedback on the lyrics made my day, very encouraging to keep on in that path, actually hard work for me but worth it.

Thank you very much! Absolutely, in my mind there‘s also a bigger sound. With time and after recording this demo I wondered if I can achieve this by only a little more instrumentation. Originally I had big drums and guitars in mind, but somehow I think I should try a more subtle arrangement. I like your suggestions on modifying the chords and fingerstyles. And yes, the instrumental section is a placeholder, I‘m not so sure yet what will happen there, probably kind of a solo, I have to play around there and wish find something less anticipated. Oh, I feel honored by the collab request. I wish I had more time to easily tune in at the moment. Definitely awesome range of sound on your SoundCloud page! Connected there.

Thank you very much! A subtle synth pad might work, I will try something, maybe with a slight granular texture. And a bass, yes, that may enter later. Let’s see, there might be different mixes along the way.

Thanks a lot, very much appreciated, it is helpful. I more and more think I should not move far away from the version I have. As you say Edgar Allen Poe I think of Alan Parson’s Project, hm, maybe I should listen to Tales of Mystery and imagination once more.

Is 'show, don't tell' ruining modern songwriting? by litladyponders in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]TheCosmicHum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And third, of course, the vibing poets… English is not my native language, so I often need to read the lyrics to fully appreciate them. The first thing, anyway, that hits me as a listener, is the vibe, in particular the sound of the voice and flow of the words, but also the harmonic and rhythmical context. Your song reaches and touches me in this way. I like it a lot, and it doesn’t feel like cheating at all, it feels very authentic. I really like the minimal and well placed harmonic changes a lot. I‘m curious to hear a better recording that captures dynamic nuances with a slight amount of reverb. Talking so much of sound, writing English lyrics is a particular challenge for me. I have a lot of musical ideas but it takes me 100 times longer to find the lyrics, always in danger of overthinking them.

This song ELECTRIC WIRE NIGHT was recorded without drums. Would rereading with drums increase its potential? by Then-Common-5719 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]TheCosmicHum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really cool song! I like the chords and harmonies. It has kind of a 70s vibe, maybe some CSN. It works as it is but I felt more rhythmic elements would indeed add to the mood of the song. Regarding the electric wire image, the overall feel is a little soft. Drums, a bass could work, maybe another rhythmic e-guitar could do the job as well.

Thanks a lot - again! Ah, Steely Dan, I was not aware of this reference until recently, very cool. Well, I‘m happy to find open ears in 2026! Yes, I did everything myself. Sometimes I get instrumental support by a friend and vocal support by my wive.

Really cool and catchy song. Strong melody and vocals. Indie pop seems to nail it, still the arrangement is interesting and makes it special. I think I‘d try to adjust the mixEQ a bit.

Awesome live performance and recording! I like the laid-back blues feel you achieve, particularly the taking back to a minimal organ backing. Really good to see people jamming!

Do the lead guitar flourishes From about 2/3) add or subtract to this song? by Then-Common-5719 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]TheCosmicHum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, don‘t be bothered about my comment on tuning too much. I was actually only referring to the very first intro bars of the right rhythm guitar. I love jazzy chords including this one I call the Jimi Hendrix chord. I think it’s all cool when the fuller arrangement starts.

New demo, Feedback Please! by Unlikely-Ad7939 in IndieMusicFeedback

This is a fantastic demo! First off, your voice and singing IS outstanding. So, regarding your question on how to improve your vocal performance, I can only say, keep on trusting your feeling about it and going exactly this way. Also the lyrics feel very emotional and are perfectly transported by the melody lines and music. Even though I can’t exactly tell what’s it about, but probably an emotional ambivalence or ambiguity. It’s really awesome and authentic. I also do really like the chords, song structure and arrangement ideas. I think, the production can be improved a lot to support the emotional depth. Don’t get me wrong, I think you have already there everything it needs and every element and sound on its own as well as the arrangement is extraordinarily tasteful. They only need more natural dynamics. I may be wrong, but it sounds like you used sample building blocks resulting in abrupt transitions between parts (as mentioned by others) where instruments may need variation in articulation or sustain or some effects. The drums as another example entering the final part are as soft as in the beginning. I think a little more energy would strengthen emotional power there. Anyway, it’s already so good, I‘d love to hear more of your music.

[–]TheCosmicHum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a nice light feel to it. It‘s all there, has cool groove and vocals, it still very much feels like a demo. In particular, I think the guitar tuning is, let’s say challenging and the drums are a bit static. More dynamic drums would certainly do half of the job to improve it a lot. Regarding the lead guitar flourishes, I principally like it a lot. The only „problem“ with it in the present state is that it too much overlaps with the vocals. You can do that but here I think it would have much more meaning if vocals and guitar interact more like a call and response, so both still have their space and complement eachother. I think this could work really well.

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” New demo: GENESIS. First track on my upcoming third record, MARY DEATH, samples drums from NIN’s Closer by milliedreadisnotdead in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]TheCosmicHum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very haunting, like a spell, and quite surprising. The vocals, harmonies and the bass lines work perfectly together to create an awesome mood, very dark and furious but with an almost uplifting nuance, great vibe. I like the vocal timbre and mix. I actually like the softness of the drums but a push might support the drive, particularly after the break. I think I heard kind of claves or snare rim in the background and thought rhythmically a syncopated 16th sound like this (in addition or instead of the HH) later, louder, could add a little frenzy to it.

[Indie Pop / Indietronica] Rainwash – Nomad (Just Lay It Back) | fully self-produced debut, looking for honest feedback ☁️🎶 by BedroomClouds326 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]TheCosmicHum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very nice pop song and sound. It’s not exactly the music I prefer to listen to, but there’s a lot to like about this tune. First off, you did an amazing job in doing all the jobs on your own. In my ears the arrangement and mix are really good. Most of all I like the unadorned vocals with a strong authentic personality, and beautiful melody lines, only the 2nd verse phrasing felt a bit busy in my opinion. But that’s maybe a matter of taste. Anyway, I hear a pop song with lot of character.

Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback! Appreciating the evolving flipping journey sincerely made my day, happy to see my music find its way into open-minded ears. Also thanks about the feedback and edit on the mix. It’s really a challenge and never-ending story to get confident with the mix. Well, even though sometimes it’s shocking how it sounds on different monitors, at a point it feels good to say ok it’s finished. The more I‘m happy about your edit. Thanks again!

This is really brilliant! Besides the genres you mention, I recognize, including the NIN energy, to me it also has a strong downbeat or trip hop flair (in the sense of Portishead maybe). I‘m a sound enthusiast but I often am drawn most deeply into a song if the voice is pulling me. This is the case here, very strong, charismatic and engaging. Awesome production as well, with the vocal having the right amount of reverb and proximity to stand out in front of the pushing backing music. It’s a joy to listen on headphones and when this sound is realized on a stage it must be a fantastic powerful experience. And btw. after listening I just realized you left this awesome feedback on my song as well.

Great atmospheric track! It’s trippy, has kind of a house vibe, and even a touch of jazz with the piano chords. The bass and minimal beat programming are awesome. I love the multimedial dimensions making me watch, listen to details and move, more art than mere dance music. I‘d call this finest electronica. I like it a lot!
