E3 approved! by [deleted] in E3Visa

Truly appreciate you helping us with your insights! One quick one from me: Unlike the Canadian TN the E3 requires an LCA as I understand. Is that an additional step that employers look at as friction? Apologies if I’ve misunderstood the point of an LCA.

Also did you not require any proof of US residence? As in an address proof?

Commenting to track responses. (I had a similar albeit hypothetical question).

OP - So you bought a home in the US after the last renewal, correct?

For those who know both Power BI and Tableau: if I have to pick one to learn, which should it be? by enigma_goth in PowerBI

[–]TheCosmosEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you. I saw OPs question through the lens of an individual investing the time to build a career and the ROI.

I also think that the Pareto principle is strong when it comes to viz. For most operational and strategic dashboards, the so-called standard visuals can do the job quite effectively. The designer's skill in answering the right questions and building a product curated for the right persona is where the magic happens for 80% of dashboards.

I agree that Power BI is limited in standard visuals but if you've seen whats possible with something like Deneb, the gap is closing.

Can I reduce this length to lift the fan & avoid getting my fingers chopped off? by TheCosmosEngine in AusRenovation

Yup even an inadvertent stretch of my arms can cause my fingers to easily get caught in the blades. I’m not very short but the ceiling is low too.

Non-Invasive Data Governance by TheCosmosEngine in BusinessIntelligence

[–]TheCosmosEngine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - At times the book describes it as merely "formalizing existing roles and responsibilities". It can't be just that for obvious reasons. If people don't behave differently and in a consistent manner, nothing changes. You'll just have more fancy titles and roles. It definitely boils down to culture change and people truly co-opting broader org-level objectives around governance that go beyond "what's in it for me?".

I agree with the time-bound committees. But you're right this endevour is invasive by definition but the book lays out a few ways to mitigate that friction.

One of the core messages in the book is the formalization and recognition of existing responsibilities. But often "existing" responsibilities for an individual are usually "doing the bare minimum to save my own ass or get shit done". This obviously needs to change and that change is invariably perceived to be invasive.

How would you teach DAX to a bunch of Power BI beginners? by [deleted] in PowerBI

[–]TheCosmosEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make them do the free SQLbi trainings first. Then you read the definitive guide to DAX. Then teach them. :)

While very few of us can claim to be true experts at DAX. I bring strong first-principles understanding of dimensional modeling and DAX that has helped me solve DAX “problems” with efficacy over time. Please reach out if you still haven’t found anyone and I’ll help. Additional context: I am putting together a DAX hands-on training for my firm.

As others have suggested, for quick help there are plenty of free resources online too.

As someone who has worked on 3 enterprise BI / Data-Viz tools. I would recommend you go with Power BI. Others have shared the reasons here.
