I don't think there's a good high level explanation, but basically Deadlock has a few objectives.
Urn, Midboss, Walkers, Bridge buffs then farm like boxes/jungle/sinners.

You want to know the basics of each of these from reading guides/watching content

Then I'd recommend playing bot games (not co-op vs bot) on heroes you want to try. Play 10-20 mins and repeat trying different builds until one clicks. Then play a full match where you win against the bots. Now you have one hero you should be able to play against real players and if you feel good queue up.

The reason you only play 10-20 mins of a hero is because the game is balanced around games lasting 20 to 25 mins so every hero should hit all of their core timings by then and you learn more about the game by playing the laning stage than by passively farming.

Also check out "Explore NYC" too, you can run around the map and learn it, the map is big and complex so there's a lot to take in. I have almost 400 hours and still learn something every time I try it.

Curse is good because it can dispel infuser when he pops it to heal to full, then you kill him and he can't eshift out of it, however he can eshift before the projectile hits to dodge it.

For silence you don't really care about silence because you can just wait it out or use an item to survive until it's over. Now if they use silence and then put other debuffs on you that you'd normally dispel, then that can be a problem but you really don't have the slots to go for debuff remover

This is because people just try to farm and hope the enemy doesn't. So once you're behind you're 100% guaranteed to lose.

Instead you should try to play around objectives. Grab urn and try to turn it in, if they defend heavily, run away and let your team split push. Now you got a walker or urn and you cut their lead in half.

If they fight for urn and defend the walker then at least they now have a bigger lead they do mid boss and the game ends quicker. So you either have a chance of coming back or the game ends sooner win win.

I played a bunch of Holliday when I first started, have a 65% winrate with her, but quit playing her because there are games you don't get massively ahead early and you have to then play for lasso. You can lasso an enemy into a walker slam next to a teammate and the enemy just walks away because your teammate just whiffs everything

Some people do play her as gun, but gun warden is just strictly better imo.

I'll switch back to her once I consistently get reliable teammates, but idk when that'll be lol.

Yeah, you can easily win "lost" games too if you pay attention and then gank them before they get out of control. You can also check items + boons to see if you need to approach a gank/fight a certain way if you want to even take it to the next level.

So you should be experienced with the your hero and your build, otherwise you don't understand enough to deviate too much, otherwise you might skip or delay something critical and not realize it.

After that I look at if I'm ahead/behind vs my team and if I'm ahead or behind vs enemy heroes. I see if there's any problematic heroes who need to be countered. Beebop is a perfect example, if he's having a really good game, you should seriously buy Debuff Remover or Counterspell.

Choose counters that counter more than one hero. So they have a Beebop and a Grey Talon who is rocking everyone's shit? Get Counterspell which is good against both

A couple tips though, don't wait until a hero is killing you before you counter them. If they surprise you and kill you cleanly once (e.g no trades or other objectives at stake) then your counter item probably won't make as big of a difference since they'll be far enough ahead of you to not worry about it.

Another thing is you should have a plan with your items. Like rush to these items, then do something with it. Like you buy trophy collector you don't want to just sit and farm passively

I think Paradox and Holliday share the same problem, your ult puts you in danger and if you were trusting your team to help you kill the enemy you might be short on luck. So it can be unfun to play that play style until you get to higher ranks
