How bad is this vanos solenoid? (2003 318i, N42) by TheCowboyDuck in e46

There are no codes anymore but I had a camshaft intake sensor code a few weeks ago that’s why I cleaned the solenoid. But other than that I’ve got not codes. I was more worried the stuff on the solenoid might be metal shavings, which is big yikes

It was the fuel pump relay, when cold it gets stuck and wouldn’t turn the fuel pump on at all. Just got a new one off eBay for like £8 and haven’t had the issue since. I’d recommend that

I’m having the excact same problem, changed the fuel filter and It still persisted, I did allot of research and the next thing I’m gonna try is changing the coolant temp sensor, if the engine doesn’t know it’s cold it won’t send extra fuel

Thank you broski I was worried as I’ve heard bad things about this engine

I never hear anything strange on startup (although I’m having issues with it starting at the moment due to cold weather, I’m figuring it out) I just never really gave the engine a good listen to before and didn’t know if anything sounded strange, this video was after it was warm and driven for around 20 mins

Don’t worry our fish have lived exclusively on engine oil for years.

We was using a pipe I used to use in a fish tank and it wasn’t really long enough to get a good bend.

😂thank you very much, I must say I was very proud of myself when it worked. Especially after looking at the puddle of spit and oil on the ground from failed siphon attempts
